Back Again

ADESSA POV FIVE YEARS LATER The airport was louder than I remembered. Voice overlapped, suitcases dragged across titled floors. Announcements echoed. But somehow they all felt distant like I didn't belong. Five years of being dragged away, of me losing my child. I tightened my grip around my suitcase handle. Looking through the crowd of anyone. Being alone in Los Angeles made me realize many things. People respected power and those without power were treated less than thrash. “Heyyy” Cassie called out a smile on her face before hugging me knocking out the air in my chest I froze for a moment before hugging her back, gently inhaling her scent. “It's okay you're choking me Cass” I called out softly “I missed you” She paused, taking a look at me “Oh my god, you look so thin, were you not fed or were you in prison, blink twice if you need help” She said dramatically before holding my suitcase before I could even react. She had changed, her hair neatly styled, her posture now confident, calmer. Guess life has been good to her. “So” I paused before continuing “How's life been to you? Peaceful I assume” “hell no there's been tons of drama going on around, and you how would you disappear like that, you're parents said you were dead so imagine my shock seeing you face time me” That sounds like them. I wasn't that shocked. “And after your fake death, your parents began parading Ella like she was royalty, you could see her at every party. I'm too disgusted by her fake smile” She said, her tone laced with sarcasm. “Oh” I shrugged. We stepped outside and I could feel the air hit my face. Giving me a realisation that I was really back. Back to where it all began. “Well” She said suddenly, unlocking the door “ I'm having my engagement party” I blinked, pulling out of my thoughts. “your what?” She wriggled her fingers across my face and I saw the ring, shining brightly like a star. I forced a smile, stepping closer to hold her hand. “Wow Cassie… that's amazing” “Yeah” “So who's the lucky or rather I say the unlucky guy? “ I asked as we sat in the car. “Unlucky.. Girl tell me you don't mean that he's definitely the luckiest guy in this world since he's getting married to me” I looked at her, she was really happy. Guess life's a bit unfair. “So who's the guy?” “It's a secret” “Secret. Cassie, are you dating a criminal” I let out a fake gasp. “No he's not” “Or he is part of the mafia gang” “No he's not” “Then..” “You might know him, maybe you guys might have met in school” she shot me a wink, opening the door to come out. **** “You're eating too fast” Cassie teased reaching for another pizza “It's been so long since Cass, it's been five years of having tasteless food. Let me live” I groaned. She smiled leaning down on the couch. “So aren't you going to tell me about your mysterious fiancee or are you marrying a ghost? “ I asked, closing the distance between us. “A familiar ghost, but don't be curious like they always say curiosity kills the cat”. “Okay” I shrugged, reaching out for a pizza. “So if you were to meet him now how would you feel? ” My hands froze mid-air for a second. The room feeling quiet Then I forced a shrug. “Nothing tho what happened then was a mistake on my path i was young then and foolish to believe that love existed”. And for a second he crosses my mind. I grabbed another bite. “Anyways if this mysterious man breaks your heart, I support violence and I have a lot of ways to do so” A grin on my face. “Ohh scary but don't worry”. She burst out laughing but I could feel her eyes on me looking right through my soul.
