SAPPHIRE’S POV:
I paled hearing his words.
“Why wouldn't you tell me about the attacks and the secret warnings by this ‘YOURS SINCERELY’ guy?” He looked at me with worry written all over his face. I tried to move away from him but he just held me closer and made me look at him.
“I didn't intend to see your phone but the messages on your phone went crazy after a few minutes of the occasional drops. I was coming to give you the phone but saw the message accidentally. Do you think to forward 156 messages of the same content is normal?” l pulled me away from him forcefully and took the phone away from his hand. I took a deep breath while reading the message.
‘You need to stay with your family. It will help them live longer. This time, it's not about you. Trust me, YOURS SINCERELY.’
I signed and went to walk out of the room only to be pushed back to the polished wooden wall. My face was now red with anger, frustration and embarrassment.
“Leave me, Adam. I'm hungry.” I whisper yelled as he held me by my hands on the side of my face. I heard his scoff but didn't look up. I knew that if I did, I would be a crying mess at the end of the night.
“Is that the best excuse you can get for the answer to the question of who is trying to kill you?!” His voice raised and he held my hands over my head. He made me look at him forcefully.
“I don’t want to answer your stupid questions!! Let go of me!” My voice came out Firm but inside I was scared to look into his eyes. The frustration in his voice made the fact clear that he knew about the attacks from the very beginning.
“I’m not letting you go before you answer my questions!” Now his grip on my wrist became tight making my wristwatch painful. I don't know exactly why the tears ran down my cheek. But as soon as it did, Adam because super quiet. I even couldn't feel his breaths on my face.
Suddenly my hands were pulled down slowly and I heard Adam suck in a deep breathe. I knew there will be bruised on my skin due to the wristwatch but what hurt me more was that this was the first time Adam and I shouted at each other.
There were arguments between us, plenty of times. But we never raised our voice against each other for once.
“I’m so sorry Angel.” I felt my vision blurred due to the tears but didn't look up at him. I tried to take deep breaths as Adam took the wristwatch off of my hand and moved to the table in the corner of the room and pulled out the first aid kit.
He gently pushed me down to sit on the floor and did the same as the silently applied Vitamin K cream on my now greenish wrist.
“I don't want to talk about it right now,” I said silently as he was keeping the kit away.
“You need to Angel. You can't deal with everything on your own. You have people who care for you. I know you are an independent woman but your life is not just yours. I'm a part of your life too. I knew from the first letter cause you spoke about it on your phone. The telephones of the house are interconnected, right? I heard you talking to Abel about the letter and after that day. When you called telling him that your car was tamed.” He sat in Indian style and came closer to me as wiped my tears, looking away.
“I was scared to tell you, Adam.” Finally getting enough courage, I said. Making Adam let out a tired sign.
“Scared of what Sapphire? Do you know scared have been for your safety for the last five months?” Adam made me look at him, this time, gently tugging my chin up with his finger and thumb.
“I wasn't scared for me, Adam!” I finally said. Not wanting to hide it from him anymore.
“What does that means..” Adam trailed off.
“The threats were never meant for me, Adam. They are all for you! Your life is in danger, not mine. It was you who have been attacked once a month for the last five months.” I said and saw him looking at me with confusion written all over his face.
“How are you so sure. Every letter, email, the message said that you and I are going to die the next day.” I shook my head and felt a bail raise to my throat as soon as I memorised all the times when the ‘accidents’ happened.
“No, Adam. Read the message again. It is so clear that someone is after you. And desperately if I can add. Someone wants you dead with so much passion that it makes me feel double passionate about saving you. The only family I have!” A sob left from my lips and I felt goosebumps rising all over my skin when I said things out loud.
I stood up and took the phone from the floor where we left it. Handing it over to Adam, I nodded. He shook his head and looked at the messages, again looking at me with confusion.
“I don't know how you are so sure it's for me and not for you...” He said handing me over the phone. I took the phone and looked at the messages. It was truly different.
“Wait! Come to the living room.” I took his hand and we left the room together. Taking my clutch, I took out the letter that I've been keeping for the last five months.
“Look at it through the candles.” I ran to arrange the candles on the coffee table in the living room. Adam read the letter which was the same as the message but when he moved the letter to the candle, he read the actual note.
‘They are going to kill Adam. Sooner or later, you'll know who it is. But tomorrow just make sure to drive the new car that will be sent by me. Make sure to check Adam’s car before he returns to his apartment. I'm doing this with no interest in your money and life. Consider me as your friend.
Yours Sincerely.’
I gave him the second letter which came after the second email. He took it eagerly and read through the candles.
‘Don’t eat at the restaurant you are in. Get out of there, right away!
Yours Sincerely.’
The third letter was after the second email I received.
‘Believe it or not, Adam’s security has been broken and you need to keep him out of his room to settle things down in the apartment.
Yours Sincerely.’
I handed him the fourth letter and took the fifth one out as he read the fourth one.
‘Thank you for believing in me. But tomorrow, I won’t be at your lover boy’s rescue. Make sure he is with Mr Lucas Smith the whole day.
Yours Sincerely.’
‘Well, No. I can’t give you my introduction and no, I have no interest in killing your only happiness. Let's just say your father has sent you a well wisher. Now, don’t eat at Adam’s tomorrow, I don’t want you both both to die such a dramatic way... Well, look who’s talking....
Yours Sincerely.’
After the last letter, Adam looked at me.
“You don’t know this handwriting?” I shook my head. Now I’m a crying mess. Cause now i have to answer honestly when he asks me the nest question.
“Why didn’t you tell me about this?” I signed. Answering the question I never really wanted to.
“I thought you would leave me..”
