CHAPTER 47: THE NEW YORK CITY...

SAPPHIRE’S POV: I smiled as I walked into my new office but the smile dropped as soon as I saw the interiors. I know that there is only one person in this corporation that can do something like changing the interior designs of my office as they own the place. James Newton. I saw his big figure sitting on the couch of my office as he went through the files that were in his hands previously. I took around the new design, which was the complete opposite of my old office in London. Well, it was more like dad’s old office. But I wanted the same interior in this one too. It makes me feel at home. But as much as I wanted to deny it, the work done by James was exquisite. There was more of me than Dad's. The room had a very limited colour just like would want my office to be. The room was Cream, Brown and dark brown themed. The walls were light brown and the yellow lights and metallic lamps gave its beauty off, perfectly. My table was made of some extremely polished and expensive wood and was dark brown. Other than that, everything in my room was cream. My chair, the Sofa set, a few frames on the wall and a lot more. But one thing he didn't change was the library. The book area was the same as it was and London. Of course, it was. James did a lot of hard work renovating the whole office but he knew one thing my dad and I had in common was books. We both were literal book worms. I chuckled at the thought and moved to sit in my chair. James didn't say a thing the whole time as he watched me look around the office. Finally, I turned the chair around to the glass wall behind my desk and almost awed at the view. I don't know if it's just me or something but looking at the city from his height, it just feels peaceful. After a while, I shook off all my thoughts and looked at the pictures on my desk. One was me with dad and the other was Adam and mine. I quickly started with my work and James came up to fill me in with the monthly reports. We continued with our work and soon James left for his lunch, leaving me with the files to sign them. Some were ready to sign and some were yet to go through. I took a quick look at the checked files before signing them and went on with the remaining 3 files that are yet to read. I signed as I got a call while I was going through the fast few papers of the last file and picked up the call without looking at the caller ID. “Good Afternoon Miss Steel. I'm Ms Thatcher from the wedding planning company you and your fiance hired. I wanted to confirm that you are still going to visit for the preparations.” I heard the lady speak from the other side with nervousness laced in her voice. It is obvious that the people around me, fear me. Not that I look scary or something. It is just that I've grown cold towards the people around me. My employees remain pin dropped silent as soon as walk into their floors. The only sound coming would be the endless typing of the keyboard and the clicking of heels or the addresses I get from them in the morning. It is not that I fire someone as soon as I see them chat about anything else than work. It is what Adam and I have become. If anyone sees us while we are alone in one room, they'll think we are nothing more than stupid teenagers. But that's not the case when we are at work. Well, quite the opposite I’d say. “Yes, Ms Thatcher. I'll be there in an hour. The meeting is surely on.” I hung up the call without waiting for her answer and continued with my work. After few minutes, I was done signing the last file and looked at the clock to see it's only 3 o'clock. I have an hour left to have some... I was pulled out of my wonderful idea of getting food when James practically barged into my office. Carrying food parcel bag in his hand with the most beautiful bouquet I've ever seen. I walked near the bouquet and took it from James as he offered it smiling at my already brightened face. The bouquet had many flowers. There were roses, sunflowers, tulips, orchids, lilies, Gerbera daisies, Blue Iris, carnations and chrysanthemums.  Even though there were many flowers it didn't give out the feeling on your face. The colours of the bouquet were balanced. Not once overpowering any of the other. I smiled as I saw a green folded paper in the middle of the bouquet. ‘I know you are busy running a business along with the wedding preparations but you can always have a fork in your other hand while doing so, right.’  ‘PS: come to the office before you go for the dress fitting. I have a surprise for you, Angel.  Your Man Adam Black.’ I smile adored my lips as I read the note. I love it when he pampers me with his handmade gifts. And I can tell that this bouquet is made by him, just by looking at it. The ribbons always give that fact away along with the specifically designed warps he uses to wrap around the bouquet. I kept the bouquet in the empty vase near my desk and looked around only to see the James has already left the room after placing out the lunch and taking the signed files along with him. Sometimes, I doubt that he was a spy or something before he applied for the PA post in my office. I chuckled at the thought and walked up to the served food. Pasta bolognese and Tiramisu my favourites from Italy. Can this man be any sweeter than he is right now? I continued the lunch with a smile plastered on my face. I have been head over heels for this man due to his non-stop small gestures. We never had time to make something big out of it so we mutually agreed to show our affection through small things. Things that don't matter much but do have a greater impact. Like taking care of my headache after a drunk night, making food for one another, surprising each other with small visits or genuinely normal gifts. You name it. At the thought of it, I decided to surprise Adam with an early visit. I know he has no meetings after 6 and will be busy with regular office stuff after that. So why not visit him early and on the other hand, I haven't seen Adam’s workplace for once. It will be good. I nodded in excitement and finished the last bite of my dish before moving to the dessert.  I left the office as soon as I was done completing and throwing away the remaining garbage. I walked to the room adjacent to mine and knocked on the door before opening it. “Hey James, I'm leaving for the day. And thanks for the help today. And for the office...” But before I could complete it, I was cut off by my PA. “Uh uh uh... I didn't change the interior of your office, gal. Your handsome fiance did. He just came and glared at the poor guy who was working on the project and the gay scrambled all his blueprints and replaced them with his. I must say you've got a s**y piece of a** by your side.” I glared at his choice of words and shook my head before smiling. “Thanks, J. Now, I have to leave and I love you, DESPITE you trying to flirt with My Man at any chance you get.” He folded his arms and huffed out before making a face and I laughed at the man. For a 6.2 broad-shouldered man with a face of the model from men’s health, he can behave like a teenager at times. AND he just loves to make Adam feel awkward... I laughed at his face till he threw the paperweight nearly on my head as I banged the door with a thug before leaving the office premises with a smile on my face. The streets of New York City as always... Busy...
