SAPPHIRE’S POV:
“Mom, why are you still awake?” I went to sit beside her and she let me as she shifted a little, making space for us.
“You know, the one thing I never had you will always do, is?” I shook my head not understanding her. Why is she telling this to me now?
“It is family. You think Adam will your weakness and you'll be his, right?” My eyes widened as I processed her words and looking at the bedsheet underneath my hand as it was the most important thing to do right now.
“I... I don't know, mom... Every time I try to escape this feeling that has been growing inside me, I feel myself falling into its arms.” I looked at us as she lifted my chin with her finger and thumb.
“You are Hunter's Daughter. You don't have to fear anyone and yet you do... Do you want to share something, sweetie?” Her eyes shown sincere love and concern for me. Like a mother has for her kids. I've never been able to get a mother figure in my life but I do know how that love feels. So pure, so beautiful, so harmless...
“Mom, I've been having nightmares... Nightmares of Adam not being with me. He is always there, always happy but I'm not a part of his happiness.” I shook off the shiver that tried to run down my spine, I'm not letting my fears feed due to it.
“You have every reason to be scared but I know my son. He may be a bada** to everyone but he can't be that person with you. Trust me when I say this, Adam won't hurt you. Neither knowingly nor unknowingly.“ I smiled and took mom’s hand in mine.
“Mom, he is a human being. He is meant to make mistakes and I'm okay with that. Until he is not in fault, he is not at fault.” I gave her hand a reassuring pressure.
“He is a human being but I'm his mother. Just a look from him and I know what is going on in his pretty working head. And humans are meant to make mistakes, not a mother’s heart. He loves you more than he loves anyone else in the world.” She said taking my face between her soft palms.
“That’s where you are wrong, Mom. He loves me but he loves you a thousand times more than he loves me.” I smiled and kissed her palms looking at her with the same respect as Adam does.
“You’ll see what I mean. If not now, then in future. He can literally, run through hell if he has to for you.” We both shook my head at each other's words. Neither of us wanted to believe in others and that when the door opened after a knock and Adam came in.
We talked about lighter stuff and slept with mom that night. We don't know when we are going to meet her again. After we were asleep she kissed my forehead and then Adam’s before leaving the room.
I on the other hand was trapped in the whirlpool of my thoughts.
