Dressed to Kill

I followed Roarke to what would be my room. After letting me in and giving me directions to where our little meeting would take place, The Great Hall of the Keep, he left me to get dressed. I approached the wardrobe and gave the knob a pull. Inside wasn't much, that I was expecting anything great, but I did find shoes that fit that weren't flip flops, a red skirt that was high in the front and low in the back, and a white peasant's shirt that left plenty of room for movement. I found a wide belt and used it to define my waist. Dressed in the fashion of the realm, I left my room and headed to the Great Hall. It was easy enough to find, and there were plenty of people there waiting on their Savior.  Now I felt self-conscious in this outfit. What if I wasn't what they were expecting? Who was I kidding, I am freaking god for goodness sake, I got this. I held my head up and squared my shoulders and marched into the room full of people waiting on me. I could overhear bits of conversations but nothing more than small talk. I spot Rory, holding a small child, while a beautiful woman with long dark hair looks on with a soft smile. That may be his wife and child, they look so cute together that I find myself needed to save the world if only for them.  Roarke waves me over and I make my way to him. He flashes those fangs of his again and clears his throat to get the attention of those gathered. "Everyone this is Metia, the Savior." They all just stare, now I feel like I need to channel Alice and shrink into the stones at my feet.  Instead of running and hiding from the attention, I smile, "Hello." I project to the room. There was a little power in that projection, I could feel it. Some of my strength is returning, although it's slower than I'd like. But this takes time after eons trapped where magic was only in stories.  The room erupts in cheers. Well, damn if that ain't a boost to a girl's confidence. Several people come up and shake my hands like they have to be told to let go, others just look on in awe. I'm not sure what sort of welcome I expected but I'm sure it wasn't this. After the people settle down, Rory walks over, his small child., in his arms. "Metia, I'd like to introduce, my mate, Marie, and my son." He smiles at the pair. Marie is just wow. She has brilliant grey eyes that shine in the light and there seem to be flecks of silver in them, it's like looking at the moon on a clear night. Her long dark hair hangs in a braid behind her, to her waist. "Go on she won't bite." He chuckles.  "Hello, Savior." Marie mutters to my feet. She's shy and that is just so f*****g adorable!  I bend and look up into her eyes, "Hello, I'm Metia." I extend my hand to her. "I hope I can live up to the expectations and challenge of saving your world." She looks up and smiles at me, taking my hand.  "I'm sure you'll do fine, Metia. I can feel  kind of power in you." Oh s**t. Did she feel that my godhood is returning? Would that throw off the plans of saving the world? I mean I can't see how it would, a human or a god, either is able to save the world, but I'd rather not play my ace so soon.  "I'll do my best." I respond, as the baby, Sean coos at me. I grin at him and let him take my finger in his small hand. Kids are so freaking cute! Or would this be a pup? was his mother a werewolf too? Questions for later as my stomach announces that it hungers. Roarke grins like he's the cat that caught the mouse, while Rory laughs. "I guess it's close to dinner time?'  "Shouldn't be too long now." Rory says. Marie excuses herself with the baby to go help in the kitchen, I ask if they need any extra hands and they all look at me as if I had just grown a second head. "The Savior helping in the kitchen? Now that's funny."  "Can't save the world hungry." I quip back, Maire assures me that they don't need my help and that I should relax and enjoy my time here. That really makes me feel like I might die here, I could be killed I suppose but it would have to happen before my godhood is fully restored. Otherwise, I'm basically immortal, I think the only being that can really kill me is my brother and after our war, I don't think he'd be on board with an idea like that. As far as I know, he's still asleep somewhere after what happened to me.  Roarke tells me to take a seat by him at the head of the table and he lays out the basics of what I'm going to be doing during my time in the Mire. Fighting lessons, which should be good as I haven't fought since the war that shattered me, magic lessons, again good, cause I haven't had magic in eons, and generally getting to know the place. He seems content to let me stay or go as I see fit after I save their world "There are traditionally 3 Kings." Roarke says to me." One Werewolf King, one Vampire King, and one Dark Fae King. These Kings ruled their clans as independent entities of each other only coming together to renew the peace that had lasted for many centuries before the Overlord took all the power for himself. The Overlord was the Vampire King, but his greed for more power corrupted him and caused him to use forbidden magic to give all the power of the Kings to himself. One man cannot hold all that power without going mad. He uses fear and capital punishment to keep the people in line. Any persons that dare to rise against him are killed without hesitation." I nod as Roarke gives me a quick and dirty history lesson. "But you don't need to bother with much other than taking out the Overlord. That is your only goal." I want to know more, like are the other 2 kings alive or were they killed? If the Overlord is the previous vampire king, who will take his place in the circle of power once he's gone? My mind races but the signal that dinner was ready brought my thoughts to food.  I ate well for the first time since the shack, and I made sure to thank the cook for the meal. This made the small woman blush and say it was an honor to serve the Savior. That was going to old, rather fast, being called Savior, but I didn't think I could get these people to use my name. It made me feel like some holy person and it gave me the creeps.  After dinner, a bard took the floor and sang us songs and told stories. Just like they used to do on Earth back in the ye olden times. It was great fun, all in all, and I didn't miss my TV much. When the bard gave his final bow for the night we all headed back to our rooms. Roarke escorted me to mine and bid me good night before warning me to keep the windows closed. I didn't question the ways of this world, They had already told me the night wasn't the best time to be out and no matter how hot it got, leaving a window open was an open invitation to well anything.  I changed into something loose and light for bed and crawled under the heavy blanket, staring out at the moon hidden behind the fog, It was like even the moon was hiding from the state of the world. I sighed and rolled over before snuggling into the pillow and feeling how heavy my eyelids were. I drifted off to a dreamless sleep.
