She's Alive

“Are you Ms. Vargas’ family?”

“I am her father.”

“She is okay. The bullet missed all of her important organs and none of her wounds are serious. She is however, suffering from severe bipolar disorder and she was having an episode.”

We all looked at each other and Val looked straight at me.

“You were right.”

“Sadly.”

The doctor continued on but I couldn’t hear him. I couldn’t hear anything and my vision started getting blurry. I shakily walked over to the nearest wall and braced myself against it. It started getting harder to breathe. I felt Jordan’s arms around me and him walking me outside.

“We need to get you home. You need sleep.”

“Okay, let’s get to the car and I’ll tell Camilia that I’ll visit Serina tomorrow.”

“Alright.”

We got to the car then we left to go home. Jordan carried me upstairs and into our apartment. He brought me to our room then lied me down. As soon as I was on the bed I fell asleep. I heard Jordan walk away and a little while later he came back and lied down with me.

He wrapped his arms around me and held me so I felt safe. We lied there for what felt like hours and it was peaceful. There was silence and all I could hear was the sound of his heart beating and him breathing. It was calming and made me relax. I fell into a deep sleep and I didn’t even feel him get up.

I woke up and I could smell something being cooked and people talking. I got up and walked to the kitchen. I saw Jordan and Rosa sitting there talking while something was being cooked on the stove.

“Hey sleepyhead.”

Jordan turned around and smiled at me.

“Sorry, I didn’t want to wake you up.”

“It’s okay.”

I sluggishly walked over to them and sat down next to Jordan.

“What’re you two making?”

“She’s making us some peppers with brown rice and some other stuff. It smells amazing though.”

“It really does.”

The pan that was on the stove was filled with peppers, chicken, brown rice, and something else that I couldn’t figure out. We sat there for a while just talking before we heard a knock at the door. I walked over to the door and opened it to see Nick and their dad Daniel was with them. They walked in and walked to the kitchen with me.

“What’s going on?”

“We decided that we were going to have a family night.”

I looked at all of them.

“Does Nick know?”

They all looked at me.

Nick said, “Does Nick know what?”

I smiled.

“I’m pregnant.”

His face went blank then he pulled me into a hug. He pulled away then looked at Jordan.

“Are you serious?”

“Yep, I’m a month and a half along.”

He pulled me back into a hug then hugged Jordan.

“I’m going to be an uncle!”

We all started laughing.

“Should I call my brothers and have them come over?”

“Yeah.”

I walked back to the room then called Michael and Jacob. Both said they can be over soon and then Cam and Jayden said that they will also be over soon. The rest of my brothers are younger and can’t come over. We sat there talking for a little while longer then we heard a knock at the door. Michael and Ronnie walked in along with Jacob. 

I went to the room and changed into a pair of black biker shorts and one of Jordan’s tee shirts. I went back to the kitchen to see my brothers talking with Jordan’s family. As soon as I walked in they looked at me.

“So what’s with the emergency text?”

“We have to wait for Cam and Jayden.”

“So something is definitely wrong because you never want the five of us in the same place.”

“Nothing is wrong, it’s just really important.”

Jordan pulled me closer to him and had me sit on his lap while we all waited for the other two. I heard a knock at the door and ran to it. I opened it to see Jayden standing there so I flung my arms around him.

“Hey baby sis.”

“Hey.”

He pulled away and spun me around to look at me.

“Look at youuu. And your hair!”

Jayden is the closest to being my favorite. He was kicked out after he came out as gay to our father. I love him so much and he really helped with my mental health. 

“I know! We are just waiting for Cam to get here.”

“Okay. Now, where is the fam?”

“Right here.”

Micheal and Jacob came walking out of the kitchen and Jayden walked up to them. They all hugged and we walked into the kitchen. Jayden walked in then walked right back out and over to me.

“Who are the hotties?”

“My boyfriend Jordan and his older brother Nick.”

“Damn you, always getting the hot ones.”

I laughed then we walked back in. I sat back on Jordan’s lap while we waited for Cam. We waited a little while then heard a knock at the door. I opened it and saw Cam standing there. His arms were covered in tattoos and he looked like your stereotypical bad boy.

“What’s up sis? You called?”

He looked up and saw Micheal, Jacob, Jayden, Jordan, and Nick standing there.

“What the hell? Who has to die cause you never call all of us at the same time.”

I chuckled.

“No one.”

We went to the kitchen and started eating. Jordan kept giving me the look asking when I’m going to tell them.

“Okay, so I called all of you because me and Jordan have some big news.”

I grabbed Jordan’s hand.

“I’m pregnant.”

They stared at me then Cam started laughing.

“Good one sis, what’s the real news?”

“I’m serious. I’m almost two months along.”

I showed them the ultrasound photos. Ronnie started squealing.

“Yay, our babies can grow up best friends!”

I laughed with her. Micheal and Cam looked at each other.

Cam said, “So which one of us is going to kill this kid?”

“I don’t know, I like this one.”

“He got our baby sister pregnant.”

“I mean, she’s grown now. Full time job, apartment, finishing school, and she can hold her own. I think they are good.”

“He got my baby sister pregnant.”

He turned to me and Jordan.

“Sophia, are you ready for this?”

“Yes.”

He wrapped his arms around me and I felt his breathing get shaky. I pulled away and grabbed his face.

“Cam, I love him. He’s been there for me since before Geo and was the one who stopped him. If it weren’t for him, I’d be dead right now.”

He looked at Jordan and stuck his hand out. They shook hands and I smiled. Jayden started squealing from excitement and Jacob stood there in silence. He eventually shook his head and gave me a hug.

“Why am I the second oldest and still single?”

I started laughing at him and sat back down. We kept talking and it was starting to get calm.

“Wait did you guys hear about that girl on the news?”

“Yeah the one who was shot?”

“Yeah her. What was her name?”

I said, “Serina Vargas.”

Micheal looked at me.

“Wait, isn’t that the same girl-”

“Yes.”

They all looked at each other then back at me.

“Who’s Serina Vargas?”

“She’s been beefing with me since the day she moved here. The reason she was shot earlier was because she pulled a gun at me while I was at work. My boss Robbie shot her instead to stop her from shooting me. We have been at the hospital for the majority of the day and she’s okay. She has severe bipolar disorder and she was having an episode.”

They stared at me.

“She pulled a gun out at you?!”

“Yes but, I talked with her family and I’m not mad at her or them. They told me that if they knew sooner about the problems between the two of us sooner that they would have done something by now.”

They stared at me for a second trying to process what I just said. Cam and Micheal turned to Jordan.

“And where were you?”

“I was already at work. She told me that she wanted to walk to work today to calm her nerves but she would text me while she was walking and when she got there. She was already working when Serina showed up to her job.”

“Are you okay?”

“Yes I’m fine, so is the baby.”

“Thank God.”

“Well, you guys know the big news and we got to have a family dinner without someone getting into a fight for the first time.”

Cam said, “Haha, shut up.”

Everyone started laughing and the rest of the night was pretty peaceful. Nick and his parents all went home first. Then Ronnie wouldn’t stop bugging Micheal about going home so they left. Jayden didn’t feel like getting on the highway tonight so he spent the night and Cam was still grilling Jordan. Then Jacob left without Cam because he wasn’t going to sit there the whole time.

“Do you actually love my sister?”

“With everything I’ve got. She’s everything to me.”

“Are you an athlete?”

“Quarterback, I have scouts across the country wanting me but I’ve got my eyes on one school.”

“Which one?”

“LSU. Sophia and I want to go to college together.”

Cam nodded his head.

“Do you want to get married?”

“Yep, I bought us promise rings for her birthday.”

Jordan took his off and handed it to him. Cam handed it back after closely looking at it and reading the inscription. 

“Did you purposely get her pregnant?”

“No, but I do want kids and I want to keep this baby. I am going to be by her side the whole time and support her in every way I can.”

“Do you work?”

“Yes, I have a job.”

“What-”

“Okay Cam, stop. It’s time for you to go home now. I love you and good night.”

I dragged him outside and gave him a hug.

“I love you too. Goodnight you three.”

I went to the room and grabbed a couple of blankets and pillows. I went back to the living room to see Jayden on his phone and Jordan lying on the floor. I chuckled and handed Jayden the blankets and pillows then lied on the floor with Jordan. He wrapped his arm around me and pulled me closer to him.

“You’re really warm mamas.”

My face got really red.

“Don’t start with me.”

He got on top of me and pinned me arms down.

“All I said was that you are really warm.”

“Then you called me ‘mamas’.”

“What’s wrong with that?”

“Don’t call me that unless you want your bones to get jumped.”

“Maybe I do.”

“Well it’s not happening. I  put you on restrictions, remember?”

“Sadly. But you won't last.”

I c****d my eyebrow.

“Okay bet. Let’s see who can last the longest without s****l activities. No s*x, no masterbating, no purposely getting the other one horny, and no p**n or nudes.”

“That’s torture.”

“Whoever wins gets head for a week whenever they ask. We can be out in public, in the car, at home, anywhere at any time.”

He smiled.

“Bet. Imma win.”

I laughed then I remembered that my brother was sitting there. I looked over and saw that he was trying not to laugh.

“Don’t laugh at us. You wish you could keep a stable relationship long enough to act like this.”

He glared at me and Jordan started laughing.

“You never had to be that petty to your brother.”

“I know but he deserved it. Mr, I’m going to stop talking to everyone in the family because I am mad at my father.”

“Oh really? What about you Miss, pregnant at seventeen.”

“At least I have my s**t together and I have a full time job.”

“Okay you two, Sophia let’s go to bed. Goodnight Jayden.”

Jordan got up and picked me up before I could keep arguing with Jayden. He plopped me down onto the bed and then shut the door. He got undressed and was only wearing his boxers.

“Why don’t we start this bet tomorrow?”

He looked at me and bit his lip.

“Mamas, you are going to lose this bet and we just started it.”

“I told you.” I got up and pushed him against the wall. “Don’t call me that unless you want me to jump your bones.”

“Well.” he grabbed my wrists with one hand and snaked his other one around me then spun us around so I was against the wall. “Maybe I want you to.”

He started kissing me and grabbing my butt which made me moan. I could feel his bulge through his boxers which made me chuckle. 

“You lost daddy.”

He looked at me confused.

“You did the s****l thing. You started kissing me, grabbing my butt, and pinned me against the wall.”

“You pinned me first.”

He chuckled.

“You set me up.”

“No, I had no clue what you were going to do.”

I laughed.

“Yes.”

He looked at me super confused but I pulled him up towards my face and started kissing him again. I smiled at him and got up. I went to the bathroom and got in the shower. I washed myself up real fast then got dressed. I changed into a pair of black ripped jeans and a baby pink crop top then I did my makeup and put some products in my hair to keep my curls in it. I went to the living room to put my shoes on to see Jordan sitting there on the phone with someone so I was quiet while walking through the apartment. 

I went to the kitchen and drank some coffee, waiting for Jordan to get off of the phone. I was almost done with a cup when he walked in and gave me a hug. 

“Who was that?”

“Camilia, she was asking if we were coming to the hospital today.”

“What’d you tell her?”

“I told her that we would be there after school and if they needed anything to ask because we will help out in any way we can.”

“Okay.”

He gave me a kiss on the cheek then wet to the bathroom to finish getting ready. I put my shoes on, went to the bathroom to brush my teeth, and walked outside. I was standing there waiting for Jordan when I saw a car pull up. It was Cam.

“Aye yo sis.”

“What’s up Cam?”

“Where yo boyfriend at?”

“He’s about to come outside. Why?”

“Just curious. Why you wearin that small shirt? Go inside and change.”

“Cause I can and no. You don’t control me.”

“True, true. But I am your big brother.”

“So?”

I saw another car pull up and some more guys get out of it. They were all tatted up and pretty big guys. I walked up to Cam.

“What’s going on? Please don’t tell me you are planning on hurting Jordan.”

“Nah, we ain't here for him. He’s going to school like everything is fine.”

“And me?”

“You coming with us.”

“Why?”

“There’s some people looking for you.”

“Who?”

“Don’t worry bout it. As long as you with us, you’ll be safe.”

“Jordan is coming with. He can be used as leverage over me and you know that. Nothing can happen to him, do you understand me?”

“Where’s my sister at? When’d you get soft?”

His boy’s laughed. I grabbed him by his chain and pulled his face closer to mine.

“I didn’t get soft. Don’t push me because I can still beat your ass pregnant or not. You feel me?”

He grabbed my hand off of him and smiled.

“I saw her for a second there. Almost had me fooled.”

“I’m still the Ange de la Mort.”

“Prove it.”

Jordan walked outside and saw everything that was going on. I walked up to him at the car. 

“Sophia, what’s happening?”

“I need to go deal with some family stuff. Cam wants the rest of the family to know but you can still go to school. I’ll see you when you get home.”

He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into a kiss. 

“I know you’re lying to me.”

“You can’t get involved in this.”

“If you have to lie to me to try to keep whatever it is a secret, I don’t want you involved in it.”

“I love you and I will be safe. Every single one of those guys would take a bullet for me in a heartbeat. I’m Cam’s baby sister, they have my back.”

“I don’t like this.”

“I know. I’ll be back here before you get home from school. I’ll have a little surprise for you when you do.”

He c****d his eyebrow.

“Oh really now.”

“Yep. You’ll find out later.”

I kissed him again and I felt his hand go to my butt and pulled me closer to him.

“I love you babygirl.”

“I love you too.”

He let me go and I walked back to them.

“What was that about?”

“I don’t know when I’ll see him again. I had to make it convincing.”

“Mhmm.”

“Shut up Cam. let me go upstairs to change into something more appropriate.”
