SAVING MY MARRIAGE CHAPTER 12

659 Words
CHAPTER 12 (My Tears) After pleading with my husband, he finally fulfilled his part of the agreement. In less than two months, Linda became pregnant. It was a great joy, especially for me, when we confirmed the pregnancy at the hospital. I started being more protective of Linda and stopped her from going out. I didn't want anything to happen to my baby. Linda is a very cool person. She loves visiting one of her friends, but I pleaded with her to stop for now. Thankfully, she complied. My mother-in-law was struck by an unknown illness, and Tony sold almost all his assets to fly her out of the country for better treatment. Unfortunately, we lost her. Tony was heartbroken. You could tell he was grandma’s favorite child. One month after her passing, the burial ceremony was scheduled. On the day of the burial, I noticed Great clinging to one of Tony's brothers. It was like he hadn’t seen him in a long time. Linda didn't join us because she was in her second trimester. Even if she wasn't pregnant, I wouldn't have allowed it. Soon after the burial, I learned Great had traveled to Akure with Tony’s brother. I was angry that Tony didn't allow Great to live with us, but I refrained from confronting him. I knew he was still grieving. Tony was broken after Grandma's death. He only had one car left. I couldn't bear to see him go bankrupt, so I decided to start a supermarket for him. He'd sold his previous one to pay for her treatment. He was grateful for my support. I prayed he would find his way back to happiness. I’d done all I could to lift his spirits, but only time would heal his grief. On June 2nd, our beautiful son was born. It was the happiest day of my life. I shed tears of joy as I held him in my arms. There were no complications because I had made sure Linda received the best care. **Heaven rejoiced with me, the earth triumphed, the waves of the sea clapped their hands, and the land swept its dust in celebration! For I was now a mother.** I longed for my mother-in-law to witness my joy, which knew no bounds but she was no more. I made sure to will one of my estates to my handsome boy. I named my son ‘Godwin Oluwatobiloba Olabode,’ a name that truly showed God’s grace. I immediately transferred Two Million Naira to Linda, I had wanted to call my mum but something inside me prevented me from calling my her. With only two months left before Linda's departure, I was lying in bed when Tony entered. “Hey, babe” I said as he approached me. He slumped onto the bed, smiling slightly. "I'm doing okay." "I was thinking, should Linda stay for a few more months? Isn’t it too soon for her to leave Godwin, just three months after his birth?” "Babe, the agreement was for one year and six months. If Godwin is two weeks old or a year old, it’s nobody’s business. There are plenty of baby foods I can feed him.” I answered “You think that’s a good idea?” he queried I sat up, my expression showing confusion. "Tony, are you okay?" I asked. "Didn't you read what was in the contract?" "Babe, please allow the mother to wean the child properly." He implored My hand flew up and I slapped him before I could stop myself. Tears pooled in my eyes as I choked out, "How could you?" How could Tony refer to Linda as the mother? What came over him? He stormed out, slamming the door behind him. I couldn't sleep. Tony's words reverberated in my mind. 'Allow the mother to wean the child properly.' They pierced my heart. What could be going on? I wondered. The thoughts kept me up all night.
