1286 Words
Chapter 6 (My Fears) Days turned into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years. My life with Tony seemed like a dream come true, but not all dreams are entirely rosy. My phone rang, and I picked it up. "Hello, mum. Good morning." My mum's voice was sharp with displeasure. "Sandra, why do you insist on hurting me?" Her words stung like thorns. My heart sank. What could have gone wrong now? My heart raced as I struggled to find the right words "Mum..." I stammered "Don't 'mum' me!" she retorted, her voice rising in frustration. "When will I carry my grandchild, if not grandchildren?" Her words were like a slap in the face. Feeling overwhelmed and hurt, I hung up the call and blocked her number, needing a reprieve from the pain her words had caused. Six years had passed and am yet to conceived, despite, the frequent unprotected s*x. Trust me Tony is a beast when it's comes to that aspect. The painful absence of a child widening the emptiness in my heart. Tony unwaving love was a warm blanket of support. I felt relieved after blocking mum's number. But as I was lost in my own thought I was startled by a familiar voice. “Mum…” A voice called out, jarring me from my thoughts. Turning to the source of the sound, I saw Tony's son, Great, running towards me with a look of excitement on his face. “My boy…” I whispered, my voice filled with love as I held him close. Great's presence always brought a smile to my face, even when the weight of the world threatened to drag me under. Although, I had pleaded with Tony to let Great stay with us. But he had respectfully declined. “How are you, darling?” I asked, gently placing a kiss on his forehead. “I’m fine, Mum,” he replied, the sound of his voice bringing a flood of love to my heart. I cherished those moments. My heart swelled with love as I whispered, “My big boy!”, gently caressing Great’s hair. Just then, Tony’s mother, Grandma, walked in with a radiant smile. The warmth and love of Tony's family is one of the best. Grandma patted my back, her eyes glistening with hope. “Very soon, you’ll carry your own baby and add to your son, making it two boys,” she affirmed. "Amen" I replied, bowing my head in agreement The hours flew by as I engaged in heartfelt conversation with Grandma and Great. Their presence filled the room with warmth and laughter, a light amidst the darkness of my fears. Unfortunately, Tony had already departed for work, so they were unable to see him before they left. Nevertheless, their love for me was a reminder of the blessings I had in my life, even in the midst of uncertainty. ********************** The sun had long since set, the night sky blanketing the world in a blanket of darkness. The sound of the front door opening filled the silence, and Tony’s warm presence ushered in with it. He planted a gentle kiss on my forehead, a loving gesture that comforted me in my moment of distress. “How was work today?” I asked, attempting to mask my worry with a frail smile. “What’s with this faint smile?” he asked, his voice tinged with worry. Tears welled in my eyes, and my voice shook as I uttered the words that had been haunting me for months, “Babe, we really need to see a doctor.” Without hesitation, Tony enveloped me in a tight embrace, his strong arms offering a sense of safety and security as he gently rubbed my back. His voice, soft and comforting, echoed in my ears. “It’s okay, my love.” His embrace was a shield against the storm of uncertainty raging in my mind. “First thing tomorrow morning, we’ll go.” The words carried a sense of comfort, a hint of hope that things could change. “What did you make for dinner?” he asked yawning “Your favorite” I replied, feeling cozy and content in my husband’s presence. Tony’s expression lit up as he made his way to the dining table. “Wow!” he exclaimed, his eyes widening as he saw the meal before him. With a ravenous appetite, he dug in, savoring each mouthful as if it were a bite of pure joy “The food is really delicious, my love,” he exclaimed. Tony’s arms were a fortress, a place of solace that guarded me against my fears and worries. As I nestled into his embrace, the world seemed to fade away. The troubles of the day vanished, replaced by the warmth and security of his love. In the dark silence of the night, I whispered a silent prayer, thanking God for the blessings in my life. With Him by my side and my husband at my arm, I felt safe, secure, and hopeful. I drifted off to sleep, my mind at peace. As the first rays of light peeked through the curtains, I awoke with a newfound determination. The day had finally arrived, and with it, the promise of answers. We started our morning in prayer, seeking God’s guidance and comfort as we prepared to face the unknown. Tony’s presence was a source of strength, his unwavering support like a beacon of hope. As we were about to leave, he gently pulled me close and pressed his lips against mine. “I love you,” he whispered, his gaze sincere as his fingers entwined with mine. As we walked towards the car, I squeezed his hand, a silent expression of my own love. “I love you more,” I replied, my words a whisper in the wind. The drive to the hospital was quiet, the air heavy with anticipation. We completed the necessary tests, each question, each examination, a step closer to understanding. The doctor requested our return in two days The drive home was a somber one, the weight of unanswered questions hanging heavily in the air. As we got home, he stormed into the kitchen to prepare something for us, I clung to him, seeking comfort and safety Tony was my anchor The day had come, the day when answers would be revealed. Despite my trepidation, I suggested that Tony collect the results, while I left for work But the more I tried to distract myself, the louder my thoughts became, a persistent melody of “what if?” resonating in my mind. My phone’s ringtone cut through the air, startling me from my work. Tony’s voice, steady and strong, calmed my nerves, his words a beacon of hope. But I could sense the weight of the unknown in his tone. As I approached our home, Tony, seated on the couch, seemed lost in thought, his gaze fixed upon the drink in his hand. When he saw me, his expression changed, his eyes lighting up with a glimmer of hope. His embrace was a fortress against the unknown, his arms enveloping me like a shield against the world. As I pulled away, his eyes met mine, moisture glistening in the corners. I could see the love and worry reflected in his gaze. The air hung thick with tension, the silence stretching between us like a chasm of uncertainty. “Babe,” he began, his voice soft and comforting. “The results was...” He paused, his throat constricting with emotion. I held my breath, my heart pounding in my chest as the weight of the unknown pressed down upon me. “The doctor said..."
