Chapter 1: The Bully
Michael's mind racing, he tried to think of a way to defuse the situation. But before he could come up with anything, Jake's friends started snickering and making jokes about Michael's clothes.
"Hey, nerd, those pants are so last season," one of them said, chuckling. Michael felt his face burn with embarrassment. He knew he couldn't let Jake get to him, but it was hard to ignore the taunts.
Jake's eyes seemed to gleam with excitement as he watched Michael squirm. "Yeah, and what's with the shirt? You look like you're going to a math convention or something." The other kids snickered and laughed, and Michael felt like he was going to explode.
...
As the scene continued, Michael's frustration grew. He knew he had to stand up for himself, but he wasn't sure how. Jake's behavior was getting more and more aggressive, and Michael could feel the tension building.
Suddenly, Jake's eyes locked onto something behind Michael. "Oh, look, it's the nerd's mommy coming to save him," he sneered. Michael turned to see his mom walking towards him, a concerned look on her face.
"Mom, what are you doing here?" Michael asked, feeling a mix of relief and embarrassment. His mom smiled and handed him a note. "I brought your lunch, sweetie. You forgot it at home."
Jake's grin faltered for a moment, and Michael felt a surge of gratitude towards his mom. But then Jake's face twisted into a snarl. "Aww, look at the nerd's mommy bringing him lunch. How cute."
The other kids laughed, and Michael felt his face burn with embarrassment. He knew he had to get out of there before things escalated further. "Thanks, Mom," he said, taking the note and trying to hurry away.
But Jake wasn't finished yet. "Hey, nerd, don't forget your homework," he said, tossing a crumpled piece of paper at Michael's feet. Michael felt a surge of anger, but he bit his tongue and walked away, his mom by his side.
As they walked out of the school building, Michael's mom turned to him and asked, "What's going on, sweetie? You seem really upset." Michael sighed and rubbed his temples. He didn't want to tell his mom about Jake, but he knew he had to.
"It's just this kid, Jake," Michael said, trying to downplay the situation. "He's just being a bully, and it's really annoying." His mom's expression turned serious, and she put a hand on his shoulder.
"Michael, if someone is bullying you, we need to do something about it. You don't have to deal with this alone." Michael felt a surge of gratitude towards his mom, but he also felt a sense of unease. He knew that involving adults wouldn't necessarily make the problem go away.
