One last chance

Chapter 6

Someone asked me if she could see the memories of the Mukamis too. She can. And she'll also have a lot of contact with a certain Mukami. I think you already know who he is ;)

I almost slept under the bed that night. I managed to stay calm a little hearing the yells of the brothers outside. Even at night they were fighting! I buried my head in the pillows and gave up to sleep after a long wait. The next day I woke with black bags under my eyes and went to check on Yui. Lucky girl she was sleeping soundly without any noise. I knocked the door to wake her up and went in.

"Good morning... Nami..." She said rubbing her eyes. "What happened to your eyes?!" She said as she looked at me.

I placed the food on the table. "You really didn't hear anything from last night?"

"No... Did something happen?" She asked after taking her medicine.

"A lot happened... You won't believe it..." I said that and told her what Ayato did last night and how the dart landed in his butt.

For a sick person, I thought that she laughed a lot. "You... Did that...? And what did he say?" She asked wiping her tears of laughter away.

"He said that he'll kill me when Subaru's not looking..." I said shivering a bit.

"Subaru?" Yui tilted her head.

"Yeah... For some reason he helped me out... He also said something about becoming his bait. What did he mean by that?"

Yui's expression changed. "I think that you should ask him about that..." She said and looked as she was recalling some bad memories.

"That's all not important now." I said changing the topic. "The main reason for me coming here today is to tell you about something..." She looked at me again. "I think that I saw what you were talking about the other day..."

Her eyes widened. "You saw it? This fast?! What did you see?" She attacked me with questions immediately.

"I'm not sure... When I was with Subaru he said something about me hating him and then I found myself looking at two people: a mother and her child. It was normal until the woman decided to start screaming and yelling. Seconds later I found myself staring at Subaru again..." She nodded when I finished the first part. "The second time was with Ayato when he tied me up. I saw this purple-haired women and those three children. She was scolding one of them and slapped him so he fell backwards. I went back into reality again feeling the dart Ayato threw in my hand..."

"A dart hit you?! Let me see..." She said and took my hands.

"It's okay... Subaru... Healed it by... Licking it..." I felt disgusted thinking about it.

She saw that and chuckled. "I thought that it was weird too at first too... But he helped you at the end didn't he? That means that he doesn't hate you..."

It was hard to believe. All that glaring, cursing and kicking me out of his room then she tells me that he doesn't hate me? I ignored her comment and went serious again. "Yui, I want you to tell me what's happening and why do you know all of this, in detail." I said feeling sick of waiting for answers.

She went serious too. "Nami, I know about those visions because I saw them too before you. And I'm sure you noticed but those little boys were familiar, right?" I nodded. "That's because the are really the Sakamaki brothers when they were children..." I blinked. (So that little silvered haired boy was Subaru...? And those triplets...)

"But how-! and why did I see them too?" I was confused.

"I'll get to that. What you saw was flashbacks of their past. Why did you saw is because you wanted to see it."

"I wanted to...?"

"Yes. I mean, when Subaru said that he wanted you to hate him, didn't you think why he was telling you that?"

"I did..." (How does she know?!)

"And Ayato must've said something and you wondered about it and that's when you saw his past, am I wrong?"

"No, you're right..." I said collecting my thoughts. "You mean that If I thought of the reasons of their behavior, I'll see those memories?"

"Yes. The more curiosity you feel, the more memories you'll see. At the end you may be able to hear what they are saying and not just see images." She explained.

"And I'm supposed to understand them by seeing those memories and help them to get better?" She nodded. "The one who planned this was the father of the brothers, and he's the one who told you this, right?" It was her turn to ask how did I know but she didn't. "One last thing, is this normal when you come here? Did every girl see what we saw?"

"No. I was told that I only saw it. And I had a reason for that..." She went into the 'painful memory mode' again.

"You know why I could see them too?"

"I'm sorry, Nami. That is the only thing that Mr. Karl didn't tell me. Maybe you know about it... I mean, like someone of your family being special..." She said unsurely.

I was unsure of what she meant too. As far as I knew, everyone in my family was normal. But then I remembered how people turn out to be someone completely different so that thought disappeared quickly. "Sorry for the long chain of questions but, why did he bring me here after seeing that you weren't able to help his sons already?" I asked straightforwardly.

Her eyes saddened. "Because he made a mistake... He chose a weak girl like me to help... And look what happened..." She was really hurt so I felt guilty. "But you're not like that! No matter how much they suck, he told me that you won't end up like me so it's okay." She said smiling brightly again.

And that too, I didn't know a reason for it and I thought that I was superhuman or something. I stayed a little after that and chatted with Yui to know more about the brothers. We talked about all kind of things and when I found out that I stayed too long I stood up and said: "Okay... Thank you for telling me what you know... I'll be going now." I said and went to the door.

"Tell me if anything else happen, okay? And take care of yourself..." She said as I nodded and went out of the room.

My head was filled with other questions that I didn't want to bother Yui with. One of them was: how was I supposed to change them? I can't just go and say that I see your past and you shouldn't do this since I knew that would get me killed. Another question was how long would I survive after what I did to Ayato last night. And the last question that left unanswered was why did Subaru call me that?

Hours went like minutes and the brothers were all awake after the sunset. I felt nervous when Reiji called me to his room. I sat down slowly knowing that he knew about what happened and will punish me for it. He looked at me and I looked at him, none of us saying anything, until he suddenly chuckled. I blinked. "I really wanted to punish you for your ill behavior but I can not deny that I felt amused by what you did to my brother. I also enjoyed every single moment of his lash out yesterday. Why did you attempt doing that unthinkable action?"

I didn't expect that. "I already said, it happened by mistake. I was angry that he threw darts at me and wanted revenge..." I said hiding my face remembering the scene.

He chuckled again. "Even so, it was brave of you. You got my attention." He said that then went and grabbed two teacups and poured tea into them. I gulped seeing that Yui was right: he may treat me for tea and place something in it. It was something she told me when I talked to her that morning. I looked around and saw all those tubes so I gulped again. "May I treat you to a cup of tea, my lady?" He said as he offered me a cup.

I took it hesitantly as I thought of a way to get myself out of trouble. I sniffed the tea and it didn't smell so different. Even though, I didn't want to drink it anyway. "Oh my god..." I said trying to apply the plan I came up with.

"Is something wrong?" He said fixing his glasses as he saw me go up onto the chair.

"Is that... A cockroach?!" I said pointing to the floor.

Reiji ate the bait and turned to see. I took the chance and switched our cups thinking that he won't be crazy enough to poison himself. "It is a mere decoration on the carpet..." He said and looked at me bored.

I sat back again. "Oh... Thank god... I'm sorry for causing a racket..."

He smiled. "I do not mind. Please, enjoy your tea..." He said and looked at me. (He definitely placed something in it!) I thought seeing how excited he was.

I sipped my tea. So did he. Seconds later I saw him looking at me smiling devilishly. "Looks like I underestimated you..." He said standing up and I could see, that whatever he placed in my tea, it was working on him.

I tried to stand up and run but then I fell back as Reiji pinned me down to my chair. "Get away! What did I do to upset you and make you try to kill me?!" I said kicking him in the stomach.

"Upset? I was not... I was only testing a new drug as I always did..." He said unaffected by my kicks. "And I would not kill you... After all, I shall obey my father's orders..." He began to move the hair that was on the side of my neck. "I was only going to try the drug and let you go but... I now want to suck your blood till your neck goes dry..." The drug was definitely making an effect as Reiji was acting like a drunk man. I looked into his scarlet eyes trying to see if I can go into his past by my will. Yui told me that I need to have the will to know something. So I thought of a question: Why is he into wired stuff like potions and drugs?

I closed my eyes and opened them again. I smiled seeing that I was all alone. (It's working!) Moments later I was looking at a raven haired boy from behind. It was the small Reiji. He was standing in front of a window and looking at two people: a blond woman and a blond boy. I looked at Reiji's face. He wore a sad expression as he looked at the two. I didn't quite get what was going on but I knew that the blond boy was definitely Shuu. That left the woman.

"Listen when I'm addressing you..." Reiji said slapping my cheek gently. I was back into reality with that so I looked at him. He wasn't happy as the rest of the brothers with me spacing out. I felt my neck stinging me so I knew that he had his meal already. "It is not entertaining if you space out like that... I need you... to scream..." he said and tried to bite me again. I fought back and started to push him away with all what I had of power. Luckily, he wasn't in full shape since he just drugged himself. I stopped when I saw that he no longer was moving. He fell asleep on my shoulder.

I lifted up his tall body, barely, and made him lay down on a sofa. He really looked peaceful without that devilish smile of his. I sighed as I took his glasses and placed them on his table. Then I looked for something to cover him and found one of his jackets so I used it. The last thing I did before leaving was scattering the papers on his desk as a revenge.

When I went out, I began thinking about something that caught my attention. Subaru had this silver haired women with him. The triplets had the purple haired one. Lastly, Reiji was looking at a blond one. So, who was the mother?
