Chapter 6
I did my absolute best not to bore Milly senseless with my misery and yearnings. I had given her every last detail of the date, and we had analysed it all for hours, in our usual fashion. It was frustrating to both of us that we couldn’t tell anyone, because it would have been such a huge brag.
"But better not, because if you don’t hear from him again, though I’m sure you will, then they’ll only gloat," Milly said.
The funny thing was that part of me didn’t want people to know. There was something removed and private about it all. Above the level of usual school gossip about boyfriends and so on. I felt like it had dignity, somehow. It didn’t need to be pored over and sneered at by Claire and the rest of them.
