“No, dear. I’m fine, thank you. I’m sure Lexi will be out shortly, and then it will be your turn.”
Sophie nodded, but it sounded like Lexi and Dr. Kemper were having quite the time back there. Every few minutes, Lexi would laugh again, and occasionally, Sophie could hear Zach’s laughter as well. It was almost thirty minutes before they finally came out. Lexi didn’t return to the front, though. Zach came to get her alone.
“Ready, Sophie?” he asked, smiling reassuringly at her.
With a lump in her throat, Sophie stood. Mrs. Wilcox gave her an encouraging smile, and Sophie forced her feet forward so that she was following the handsome doctor into his office. She left the door open.
“Oh, do you want to close that?” he asked.
