1. An atypical Omega

Clair      “Clair, come here!” I was studying, when I heard my mother calling me.  I went to her room, the room adjoined to mine, to see what she wanted. Like most of the omegas, we lived at the Pack Castle. My mom had been a cook at the castle since she was very young. As far as I could remember, it had been only my mom, Cordelia, and me. We had some relatives here in the Royal Pack, but my father passed away when I was very little. He, of course, was also an Omega and used to work in the castle as well.  It was quite incredible that my mom had survived the death of her mate, many die from the heartbreak. Especially omegas, we were much weaker than regular wolves. We were the only ones among them that were mortal. On top of that, most of us couldn’t shift, since the wolf spirits that inhabited us were very weak. “The Alpha Summit starts tonight and tomorrow they will hold a very big dinner, all ranked and influential wolves will join, so we are short-staffed. You should help us fix the dining hall and serve the food. The work starts at three pm.”  I knew that the Alpha Summit was a big and very important event; it happened every three years and brought, not only the Alphas, but all ranked and strong wolves to the Royal Pack. Thus, our pack would be fully packed. “But mom... I have a lesson with Sarah at four pm…” I started to say.  “You can’t address her that way, she is a ranked wolf,” she scolded. She had always been very traditional and to her, pack hierarchy and the role of omegas was very clear. Clear and unchangeable.  Sarah may have been a ranked wolf, but she has been like a mentor to me. She was one of the main pack doctors and chose me to be her personal assistant. A role that no omega before me had achieved. Besides, she had been helping me to train and study to become a nurse, since I turned 18, two years ago. My family, especially my mom, had been against me becoming a nurse and were very vocal about it.  “You shouldn’t have lessons! That is not something an omega should do. Clair, you should be very glad that you are her assistant and stop having these grand ideas and putting things in this dreamer’s little head of yours,” she said as she gave me a disappointed look.  ‘That’s not what an omega should do’ was one of mom’s favourite sentences; one I had heard many times while growing up.  “All omegas should work on this dinner and the Alphas Summit; and you, my dear, are no different.” She added as she patted my shoulder.  “I’ll talk to Sa...” I started, but my mom cut me off by frowning slightly.  “I will do it, mom. Don’t worry,” I said instead, holding back a sigh.  Many were quite excited about the Alphas’ Summit. It was the day the Alphas of the 12 packs would come here to the Royal Pack to discuss their plans and strategies with the Alpha King. Most of the girls, omega girls to be precise, were looking forward to seeing them, especially because six of them were still unmated.  Not that the omegas had any hope of finding a mate in one of them. Alphas were mated to strong she-wolves, like beta’s and alpha’s daughters; not to regular females, let alone omegas. That was unheard of. But most females wanted to be pleasured in the arms of a strong and dominant wolf.  Don’t get me wrong! I did see the appeal in it, but I thought there was much more to life than flirting with guys who already had an ego that reached the sky and beyond.  They were very handsome, tall, tanned, sexy, strong males. That I could give them, but in my experience, most of them were quite arrogant and spoiled. How could they not be spoiled when many omega females were falling at their feet? I just think these girls were making fools of themselves. “Your cousin Imogene will be there. She is a very fine, young omega, so diligent and she knows how to clean a room like no one else!”  My cousin had always been the perfect Omega, quiet, obedient, submissive, and docile. She had been working as a cleaner here at the Pack Castle for more than 10 years.  That was apparently all omegas could do. It wasn’t fair. I may have been crazy, but I wanted much more than this life. I wanted my own life.  My mom had always said that I was a dreamer and that people like us who dreamed, ended up frustrated and bitter. For me, there was nothing more bitter than not having any dreams. But I was not sure if we, Omegas, were allowed to dream. Nevertheless, I dreamed.   ~ * ~ The next day, the other omegas and I fixed the dining room. Everything was beautifully organised and ready and the Alphas were about to arrive at any moment.  My cousin Imogene was cleaning the same table for the 4th time, she wanted to make sure everything was perfect. She was the perfect Omega, but I wondered if she was even happy. Honestly, I was afraid not.  A very tall, strong male entered the room, he was insanely handsome and his aura radiated power. He was an Alpha, there was no doubt about it. He sat down and asked Imogene for a glass of wine. She smiled, without looking directly at him.  No one should stare directly at an Alphas’ eyes; besides the fact that it was impolite, their very dominant wolves could take it as a challenge and become unsettled, even enraged. Although this rule applied to Omegas especially, none of us wanted to upset the big, bad wolves. I was sure their friends, mates, and families could look at them that way, otherwise, it would be super weird. But for us, they were like the sun, something you couldn’t look at directly without getting a burning sensation.  "I think he is unmated!" an omega girl close to me squealed excitedly.  “He is so handsome, so hot!!” Imogene beamed as she approached me. He probably heard both of them, due to his acute sense of hearing, but they didn’t seem to care.  “I guess so,” I replied nonchalantly, as someone who didn’t really want to be here. I think I was one of the only Omega girls that wasn’t excited to have the privilege of serving the Alphas. It would be a long night! I sighed in aggravation at this thought.  “Come on, Clair, those Alphas are the stuff of wet dreams!” Imogene gushed, as she grabbed my arm to attract my attention.  They were, but they didn’t need to hear that!  I breathed deeply and went to take a little break. Soon arrogant, annoying, and amazingly hot males would enter this room.  *** T. R. Durant / Dreame/ Ringdom/ Innovel / Stary - All Rights Reserved.
