UNSPOKEN DESIRES

In today's event, the whole city had specifically sat back at home to hear the verdict of someone loved by some, hated by some. It was as though they'd all been given a free day; no work, no school. Diana weaved her way through the crowd. Despite been in the situation she was currently in, she did not cave in to living shabbily. She was messed up but still living and that it''s all that there's for her. She was fully aware of the murderous and judgemental eyes that glared her. She knew deep down that if they had their way, they'll not only aim for her life, they might even gauge out her eyes. She sneered at the ignorant crowd. She thought the law was unfair because it backed public opinion more, it didn't care about the victim. Someone always bought the law. And this someone has to be someone in high authority. She cared a hell of alot before but now she was in no rush for everything to be finalized, for everything to be over. There were reporters all over the Court's environs, all seeking to dish out the hotest news on search rankings. Diana always thought of reporters as been shallow, never weighing out the pros and cons before striking. What mattered to them was publicity, true or untrue. Once it was rumored that a very famous socialite woman had committed suicide because she couldn't handle the criticisms of the media, so she took the surest way out. Death. After the incidence, the truth was let out and the woman was found not guilty. It was a huge blow to the deceased family, but the media on the other hand kept on throwing baseless speculations in the wind These were same reporters that were ready to stampede on each other as they all struggled to get Diana to spill out some truths before she will be finally led to the court room. But Diana wasn't stupid. She knew that whatever she uttered there will be used against her in the very environment she was standing in. These people were setting a trap for her and hoping she could fall into it. But who did they take Diana for? So when asked "Do you feel wronged?" by one of the reporters, a bulky man with a missing tooth who played looked for all the world like a fraudster, she tactically replied with "I'm doing Just great." She had grown a disliking to the man the moment she laid her eyes on him. To her the man looked dishonest, coupled with the fact that he wore glasses that he kept pushing up to the bridge of his nose. The man has a foreboding presence, Diana thought she could feel it. Suddenly it dawned on her. Her enemies were really out to finish her off. She sneered as she inwardly encouraged them to keep trying. She scanned across the bee of reporters and noticed that it seems none of them was here to fish out the truth. She was doomed after all. Then her eyes twitched. She thought she saw someone. She earnestly wished that her eyes were just deceiving her. She couldn't afford to meet that person again, not today, not ever. Maybe it was her imaginations running wild and she scolded herself little knowing that her fate was already sealed with this man While sitting in the court room, Diana noticed that she wasn't afraid anymore and with this thought in mind, she continued to look blurrily at the lawyer who had decided to defend her case.She had met him just once and he had decided to keep in touch with her even after realizing her personality. Diana thought he was handsome and well schooled, not financially buoyant but stable enough to cater for a lady"s need. She looked at him and smiled. Luke has helped her to pull through some serious s**t and she owed him alot but not enough to engage in a love mess, as she called it. Luke caught her smiling at the witness box where she stood and almost swore. He thought her to be too careless and carefree to be able to smile sheepishly even in front of the judge. He had second thoughts. While he had carried all physical attractiveness expected of a man, he knew very well that he was lacking professionally in the career aspect. He wasn't used to accepting high profile cases like the one that Diana had herself involved in but he had to try it anyway because it was Diana. But when he saw her smile he sweated because he felt he had somehow got it all wrong. One wrong move and the authorities wouldn't hesitate to put Diana behind bars and that was a risk he needed to avert. He gathered his composure and said to the judge in a respectful manner "I rest my case", indicating he was done. He did not fail to look at the scornful expression on the judges face and until now he hadn't realized that the case has been lost, but he still sat down regardless. He glared daggers at Diana. She shuddered at the feeling. It was both electrifying and terrifying. Now she knew she had put him in a difficult position and so felt sorry. But she knew that they both knew that the case had been lost the moment they stepped into the courtroom. The prosecuting party had hired the infamous attorney Grail who had never lost a case in his entire life of practicing. Grail wasn't a clean man. He had his moments of lawlessness which was ironic because he is after all, a law keeper and was perfectly acquainted with the Prosecuting family. Birds of a feather flock together. She paid zero attention to the hearing after leaving the witness box partly because she felt it was pointless listening to a verdict you already have an idea about. She only returned to her demeanor when she saw the huge smile plastered against her lawyers face and also that attorney Grail wasn't looking too well himself. Luke walked up to her and with a genuine heart said "congratulations baby girl, you won the case." She had tears in her eyes. Winning the case was impossible. She knew the enemy has put in lots of money to destroy her life but who would have thought the tables would turn so abruptly and swiftly? She had said it before that the law was often bought and she detested it but it happened to her this time and she was forced to have mixed feelings. Then something struck her. Maybe Luke wasn't that bad of a lawyer. Maybe he argued his points real well. "Luke, you sure are great. I never knew you could get me out of this mess. You're my savior." She was so excited that she grabbed his arm. This gesture alone left many people in contempt. Luke was taken aback. It was inappropriate but he'll he felt good. Nevertheless, Luke was confused. How could he tell her that that he never provided solid evidence to the judge in comparison to the prosecutor who had lots of incriminating record about her. Grail did his homework and overdid it whereas him, he was helpless. Even he felt something was out of place. Diana supposed to have been arrested after the hearing. The evidence of her "crime" was too glaring. He told her the truth anyways. They were on the corridor of the courtroom and Diana still held onto him. He saw the dissastisfying look of onlookers. He was a public figure. A man of the law. He had a reputation to uphold. And Diana was going against that by her simple proximity. Already people had began talking. He even heard people saying they were messing around together. He slowly removed her hands from his arms. "Diana we're surrounded by people, we can't afford to be careless." Of course she noticed. "So?" "I was thinking maybe we could behave ourselves, until later" He said lustfully. He hated to be looked upon with criticism and yet couldn't wait to make their thoughts come true. Diana was dumbfounded. She gave a gentle but bitter laugh. Then she looked into his eyes and all he saw at the time was the look of disappointment in her eyes, whereas she saw lust in his "Asshole" Saying this she walked passed him, away from the crowd and made it to her car. She was instantly surrounded by reporters. They all wanted to know the ace she had up her sleeves but Diana wasn't in the mood for their banter and thought she could gloat a little, so she opened her car door, stepped in on the driver's seat, turned on the ignition, lowered the car window and said in the sweetest way she could "I told you I'll be just fine." And then she smiled richly, stepped on the gear and drove away.
