Not The Best Compliment/A Slim Chance/Everest Is Worried

847 Words
Everest's POV We started going back to our camp and I decided to try and be nice by saying "you know, you're not the worst person ever." Madelyn snickered and said "is that your best compliment? But I'll take what I can get." We then fell asleep by the fire. Surprisingly I was getting kind of sad knowing she was going to be leaving because the truth is I'm starting to like her. She's really the only human who can deal with my attitude and I'm grateful for her putting up with me. But in the long run I'm not sure we would be compatible. Well hopefully tomorrow is a better day. Madelyn's POV I woke up at about 7:15 for our third day trial we were just to have fun together so Everest and I wanted to go to the mountain springs to relax in the water and just talk and take our mind off things. We started walking towards the spring when I told Everest "I hate to say this but I think I'm going to miss your headstrong attitude." Everest snickered and said "I'm going to miss fighting with you." I just rolled my eyes and gave him a pat. Once we reached the springs I decided I was just going to dip my feet. But immediately Everest plunged into the spring. I guess he really liked water because he looked like a kid who just received a bunch of candy. I was sad and excited for tomorrow. Sad because a little part of me was going to miss Everest and excited to hang with my other trial wolf. A Slim Chance Everest's POV I plunged in the water and was so relaxed because I haven't had a good swim in a while. Since we were supposed to be relaxing and talking I wanted to ask Madelyn a question "Madelyn?" she looked at me and said "yes?" I took a deep breath and asked "Do you see me and you becoming one in the future?" she looked like she was deep in thought for a minute or two then she replied "If I'm being honest I don't see us becoming one but I could be wrong depends on how the other wolves are." at least I still had a chance but I knew that my chance was slim. Especially if the next wolf was Allusion. Allusion was known to be kind and the type of wolf anyone would want. But throughout the day we just kept talking. I was trying my best to savor these moments. Madelyn's POV Once we were done with the spring we decided to go for a walk. We just kept walking and talking an for the first time in a while I  thought me and Everest were finally getting along but it could just be because tomorrow would be our last day together. But anyway  at least we were getting along. We eventually walked back to camp and ate our last dinner together because at 3:00 tomorrow I would go meet Allusion in the Forest. Everest went to bed first and then I decided to go for a walk around his territory and while on my walk I encountered a nice man named Dakota. He was with wolf Vain. We walked together for a while talking and becoming friends. It was nice to have a friend here so I could come back and visit Everest if he hadn't found a human by then. Everest Is Worried Everest's POV I woke up at like the middle of the night and Madelyn was nowhere to be found by the campsite. I was a little worried so I started trotting by places that were close to the campsite. I eventually picked up her scent and started cantering trying to find her. I found her in the forest with Vain and his human. I ran up to her and pushed her behind me while I was snarling at Vain. Vain and his human looked confused as well as Madelyn. I looked back at Madelyn and asked her "are you hurt?" she looked at me for a second and then replied "no but thank you for your concern." I then started walking back and stopped for a second to look behind me, as soon as I looked back Madelynn said goodbye to Dakota and Vain and then started following me. Madelyn's POV I was surprised Everest came looking for me and then when he looked back I knew he wasn't messing around so I said my goodbyes and then started following Everest. I asked Everest "why did you start snarling at them?" he replied "well because I thought they hurt you and I just wanted to make sure you were ok." I grinned for a second then said "aw you do care. Not such a cold wolf now are you?" He gave me a play growl as we were approaching the campsite. We just sat by the fire for a few seconds until I passed out while I was using Everest as a pillow.
