Prologue
"Within the mere beat of a heartbeat, the realm transforms entirely, torn asunder by the abrupt void of existence."
Outside, the rain was falling lightly, accompanied by the distant rumble of thunder. The droplets danced upon the pavement, forming shimmering puddles that reflected the sullen gray sky above. Each raindrop seemed to hold a weight of sadness.
A woman, appearing to be in her 30s, stood there, her shoulder-length black hair untied and clinging to her wet cheeks. Her disheveled appearance mirrored the chaos within her soul as her black eyes glistened with a mixture of anger, despair, and a heartbreaking resignation.
She wore a red slip dress, its vibrant hue clashing starkly with the bleakness of her surroundings, while silver hoop earrings dangled from her ears like drops of liquid moonlight. The 1-inch black pumps on her feet clicked against the damp pavement, a hollow echo that seemed to match the emptiness in her eyes.
Despite the rain, the woman seemed unaffected by the chill in the air, her trembling body more a result of the raging storm within her than the cool droplets that kissed her skin. Her smudged makeup, like war paint streaked with tears, accentuated the turmoil etched upon her face, each line and crease expressing a lifetime's worth of pain and broken dreams. The rivulets of mascara staining her cheeks mirrored the heartache that flowed relentlessly from deep within her soul.
With a bottle of beer tightly gripped in her hand, she stumbled along, the faint scent of alcohol trailing behind her like a lost friend. Mumbling curses under her breath, her words carried on the wind, a bitter melody that only the storm seemed to understand. Her intoxicated state hung heavily upon her, like a heavy shroud of sorrow, distorting her thoughts and fueling the fire of her anguish.
Her destination appeared to be a small, gloomy apartment building, where she resided. Its cracked walls seemed to mirror the fractured reality that awaited her arrival.
She clumsily knocked on the door five times, the echoes of her demands for entry a desperate plea for refuge from her own torment.
Inside the apartment, footsteps hurried across the worn-out floorboards, their frantic pace conveying the fear and trepidation that awaited on the other side. With a creak of hinges, the door swung open, revealing Leida, an average-looking 17-year-old girl with her messy bun black hair clinging damply to her tear-stained face. Startled by her mother's intoxicated state, Leida's wide eyes reflected a mix of anxiety, sadness, and an unyielding loyalty.
"Moth-"
Leida began to speak, her voice threading with a fragility that seemed barely audible against the raging storm outside. But she was abruptly cut off as her mother, guided by a furious force, grabbed her shoulder forcefully, leaving behind the faint marks of her grip.
"GET OUT OF MY WAY!"
her mother yelled, her voice a discordant symphony of pain and anguish. Leida stumbled, her fragile frame unable to withstand the force exerted upon it, crashing to the floor with a heart-wrenching thud. Slowly rising, her trembling fingers reached out, silently brushing away a stray tear that clung to her cheek.
'Mother is drunk again'
Leida thought, as she observed her mother through nervous eyes, her gaze shifting between the woman before her and the fragmented fragments of her own shattered innocence.
Fear consumed Leida's every breath, for she knew that her mother's presence would only lead to another violent outburst, like a storm that had no end.
Despite her tender years, Leida had become all too familiar with her mother's anguish, etched upon her face like permanent scars. The pain within her intensified as she realized her mother's desire for violent release, amplified by her own inability to provide even the barest necessities.
A sense of dread gnawed at Leida's gut as she knew all too well what awaited her. She had failed to earn any money for food that day, a failure that never went unnoticed or unpunished.
Leida's mother rummaged through the kitchen, growing increasingly angrier as each empty container confirmed their growing hunger. Frustrated, she slammed the refrigerator shut before shifting her gaze to the empty rice cooker, a grim display of their poverty. Her eyes met Leida's nervous stare, the realization of their dire circumstances flashing between them in the dimly lit room.
In that instant, rage consumed her mother, devouring any semblance of reason.
As her mother's rage intensified, so did the storm outside.Thunder grew louder, each crashing wave of sound echoing the turmoil within the apartment walls.
Lightning streaked across the sky, illuminating the desperation etched upon Leida's face, a silent plea for mercy from the unforgiving forces of nature.
In a fit of rage, her mother violently hurled the beer bottle toward Leida, narrowly missing her. The shattered glass mirrored the fragments of their broken bond.
"WHY IS THERE NO FOOD?!!!"
her mother bellowed, the force of her shout seeming to shake the fragile foundations of their shared despair. Closing the distance between them, she grasped the fabric of Leida's t-shirt, her knuckles turning white with the weight of her rage.
"I...I didn't earn any money today"
Leida stuttered, her voice trembling like the branches of a solitary tree in the relentless storm. She avoided her mother's angry gaze, feeling her heart sink deeper into the abyss of their shattered existence.
"YOU'RE A f*****g USELESS DAUGHTER!!!"
Her mother's words reverberated through the space, each syllable inflicting more damage than the last.
The echoes of her anger seemed to ripple through the rain-soaked walls, spreading a wave of despair that concealed the apartment in a shroud of darkness. The force of her mother's push caused Leida to crash back onto the floor, the impact like a c***k of thunder in her fragile world.
From her vantage point on the floor, Leida watched in terror as her mother continued her assault. Like a tempest unleashed, her mother trampled over her, showering her with blows and kicks that landed like lightning strikes in the midst of a trembling storm.
Curses and berating words became the chorus to the symphony of violence that reverberated through the walls.
Leida curled up, trying to protect herself, her frail body absorbing the blows like a barren tree desperate for shelter. She clenched her teeth, muffling her pain with her hand, the taste of blood mingling with her silent sobs.
Leida's control over her emotions became her only refuge, for she knew that any expression of weakness would only invite further abuse.
She clasped her arms around her head, creating a futile barrier against the relentless onslaught. But still, the assault continued - the shaming, the trampling, and the kicking. Each strike eroded the remnants of hope within Leida, leaving behind only an empty void that mirrored the consuming darkness outside the window.
The sound of rain grew louder, its rhythmic cadence now a furious drumroll against the roof, its relentless persistence a cruel reminder of the relentless storm within.
The chill breeze that seeped through the open window seemed colder, carrying with it a touch of cruel indifference. It wrapped around Leida's trembling body, sending shivers down her spine like a warning from the unforgiving world outside.
In the desolate abyss of her anguish, Leida found solace in the silent corners of her mind, where her plea reached out to a higher power that existed beyond the realms of her comprehension. Her spirit, burdened by the weight of her despair, trembled like feeble petals in a cruel, relentless storm. The suffocating melancholy that engulfed her suffused the air, enveloping her in a shroud of oppressive gloom.
Tears teetered precariously on the precipice of her deep-set eyes, their presence a testament to the rawness of her pain. Each unshed droplet mirrored the anguish that seeped from every fiber of her being, as she prostrated herself before the ethereal forces that held sway over her tumultuous existence. The silence of her plea resonated within her, an agonizing echo of desperation reverberating against the timeworn walls of her broken spirit.
And so, her voice remained unheard, but the fervor with which she beseeched her unseen deity echoed through her hidden thoughts. With frailty in her trembling heart and a bitter taste on her quivering lips, she whispered her invocation to the heavens.
'Please, God, help me'
she implored, her words drenched in a sorrow that pierced through the very fabric of her soul. Her plea, carried by a tempest of despair, tore through the veils of her desolation, reaching out to an entity whose benevolence she desperately sought, yet could not fathom.
In the wake of her plea, the room seemed cloaked in a somber veil, the air heavy with unspoken sorrow. The shadowy tendrils of despair, like ghostly fingers, clawed at every corner of her presence, dragging her further into the abyss of her sorrow. With each passing moment, her spirit grew wearier, her hopes diminishing like embers fading into the cold embrace of night.
Leida's silent plea, though unmet, lingered within her as a testament to her undying resolve. In the face of her desolation, she clung to a glimmer of hope, a fragile flame that flickered amidst the darkness. And so, in the depths of her despair, she persisted, for her anguished heart refused to surrender to the weight of her sorrow.
As Leida lay sprawled on the floor, her body feeble and drained, she felt a momentary pause in her mother's assault. It was as if nature itself had taken a collective breath, the storm momentarily relenting as if in awe of the devastation unfolding within the apartment walls.
The vacant space between mother and daughter seemed filled with an unsettling silence, an eerie calm before the storm's fury would be unleashed once more.
In that fleeting moment, her mother positioned herself on top of Leida,
the weight of her existence crushing down upon her fragile frame.
With a grip that seemed to suffocate the very air in the room, her mother's hands encircled Leida's neck, each finger a vise tightening its hold upon her desperate gasps for air.
Leida's blurred vision struggled to discern her mother's expression, but the anger in her voice was unmistakable as she yelled,
"I WILL KILL YOU!"
With her last remnants of strength, her final gasps for life, Leida's trembling fingers desperately clawed at her mother's hand, their futile attempt to loosen the grip around her throat representing the desperate grasp for survival.
"Sto-"
Leida struggled to speak, her voice a mere whisper in the midst of the raging tempest that bore down upon her. But her words were cut off, stifled by her mother's unyielding hold. Another furious outburst escaped her mother's lips, each word a lightning bolt that struck home with lethal precision,
"f*****g DIE b***h!!..DIE!!!"
The lack of oxygen left Leida gasping for breath, panic flooding her weakened senses. Tears streamed down her face, mingling with the cascade of rain outside, as if nature itself cried alongside her. Her vision blurred further, the world around her transforming into a dark and suffocating abyss. Desperation consumed her heart, her thoughts, as she fought with every fiber of her being to draw a single breath.
But the storm within her mother's soul showed no signs of abating. Her relentless assault continued, the crushing weight of her anger pressing upon Leida's frail existence.
Desperation turned to surrender, resistance to resignation. With each passing moment, Leida's strength waned, drained by the continuous trampling and kicking inflicted upon her by her own mother. Her body, once fighting with an unyielding resolve, grew limp and motionless. Defeat settled upon her like a heavy shroud, her spirit broken by the relentless storm that had claimed her life's journey.
Despite Leida's wholehearted plea to a higher power, her prayers went unanswered. She prayed, but God didn't answer or help her as her lifeless body lay on the floor, her eyes wide open, bearing the vacant stare of one who had been robbed of life. The rain outside continued to fall, a relentless symphony that celebrated the tragedy within the walls of the small apartment. The thunderclaps grew softer, as if paying tribute to the silence that had enveloped the room. Amidst the ebb and flow of the storm within, a somber sadness clung to the air, as if mourning the loss of life and the shattered innocence of a young girl whose path had been forever altered by the tempest that raged within her mother's soul.
The end
The end?
Leida's ethereal form drifted aimlessly in an endless expanse of inky blackness, a bleak void that mirrored the desolation within her soul.
Her eyes fluttered open, heavy with exhaustion, and a wave of weariness washed over her frail being, rendering her weak and disoriented.
The suffocating darkness shrouded her, enveloping her in an impenetrable cloak that denied her the sight and touch of anything tangible-it rendered her body nothing more than a distant memory, leaving her numb and detached from the very essence of her existence.
'It's so dark..and why can't I feel anything?'
Leida's thoughts echoed within the cavernous void, her mind lost in the abyss that surrounded her.
Slowly but surely, the horrifying truth began to settle upon her consciousness-she had indeed reached a realm where death's icy grip held sway.
The magnitude of her solitude was unbearable, every fiber of her being yearning for the slightest glimmer of connection, of companionship, and finding it torn cruelly from her grasp. Memories, vivid and unforgiving, surged forth, drowning her in the depths of despair. Amongst them, the nightmarish image of her own mother's merciless hands tightening around her throat, extinguishing the fragile flame of her life.
Questions, raw and unyielding, tore through Leida's tortured mind, each one a bitter plea for solace and understanding.
'Why did it have to come to this?'
She pondered, her mind laced with an unbearable burden of sorrow.
'I knew her love for me was tainted, poisoned by resentment, but why did she have to take it this far? Why?'
'WHY?!'
'WHY?!!!'
'I f*****g DID EVERYTHING!!
EVERY SINGLE DAMN THING IN MY POWER TO EARN HER LOVE AND ACCEPTANCE, SO WHY?!!'
A maelstrom of despair and confusion consumed Leida's frayed soul, her very essence trembling beneath the weight of her anguish.
Tears threatened to spill from her vacant eyes, yet they too were smothered by her lifeless corporeal form. In this realm of existence, her consciousness and emotions were the cruel remnants of an extinguished life. It seemed almost perverse that she should be left to grapple with these emotions, when she despised them with every fiber of her being.
Leida's heart felt as though it was being savagely ripped apart, suffocating under the weight of her intense hatred and overwhelming sadness. In this invisible agony, she was imprisoned-a captive of an unending, unyielding torment that defied comprehension.
The insurmountable injustice of it all threatened to swallow her whole. She, who had never inflicted harm upon another, who had never revealed in the misery of others or taken a life, how had she become the victim of such unimaginable cruelty?
A sudden realization clawed its way into the recesses of her mind, an unwelcome reminder of her past.
"Since the moment I drew my first breath, I have yearned for solace from God"
she whispered into the unyielding void, her voice tinged with an indescribable agony.
"I pleaded for God's intervention every time my mother's wrath rained upon me... I begged for release, for mercy. And in the end, in this desolate death brought upon me by my own mother's hands,I soar-adrift in eternal darkness."
Leida's heart continued to suffocate, the specter of agony tightening its grip with every passing moment.
The deep well of sadness threatened to consume her, its intensity unbearable. She found herself yearning for the solace of physical pain, longing to clutch her chest and crush her own heart within her hands, praying for release from the suffocating emotional torment that held her captive.
Amidst the searing anguish, fragments of her existence and her habit of cursing clawed their way to the surface of her shattered thoughts, taunting her with their presence.
'Is this my punishment for my curses?
Has God chosen to repay my transgressions?'
Suddenly, a fleeting moment of understanding brushed against the fringes of Leida's fractured mind.
'But wait, what if this is not retribution? What if the divine is truly helping me now? Perhaps, in this twisted machination, He has allowed me escape from a life steeped in tragedy, even if it necessitated my death at the hands of my own mother. It is perplexing, to say the least. Do I, a girl marred by foul language and curses, truly deserve such succor? When viewed from a different angle, it may well be a divine punishment, a just retribution and yet, what if it is a blend of both-a fifty-fifty balance that defies comprehension?'
As Leida delved deeper into the enigmatic realm of punishment and divine intervention, a blinding light materialized before her, a sudden eruption of brilliance that shattered the darkness and cast the forgotten shadows into oblivion.
A jolt of shock and awe coursed through her ethereal form, as if the very essence of her being was being beckoned closer, drawn towards this beacon of radiance.
Was this her escape from the torments of her afterlife? or, in this tragic, sorrow-filled tale, was there still something more to discover beyond the reaches of her desolate existence?
