CHAPTER 1
Rain is falling, and you are on a mission. You arrive at an old building, the sound of the rain hitting the walls and dripping through the ceiling. Inside, the darkness is almost overpowering. You are there because of the intel you have collected so far. This place gives you no clue about the case you are investigating, but you are still assessing the situation in order to understand whether this intel is reliable or not, or if it all has something to do with your case from a year ago. Despite the rain and creepiness of the night. You try to be cautious and observant, but you still can't shake off some feelings of danger. You don't even have much more information about this place.
You carefully make your way through the dark building. The intel you have is that you might find some clues here, but even if there is nothing suspicious or informative, you do not want to return empty-handed. As you walk forward, you sense no sound, no movement, as if everything and everyone in this place was frozen. The silence is broken only by the rain falling softly and your footsteps as you tread carefully on the unknown territory. It is as if time has stopped in this place, as the building is a relic of a distant past.
You walk carefully through the old building. There is nothing here, no traces of anything, just abandoned machinery and dusty furniture. You know your intel was wrong, and you must get out of this dreary place, yet you feel like something is watching you. The feeling of eyes on you is strong, yet you sense nothing that could be the source. The only thing breaking the silence is the rain falling on the roof, a lonely sound in the empty building. You keep walking, knowing it will not change anything, but something inside does not allow you to just get out…
You try to rationalize this feeling, trying to dismiss it as your nerves or imagination, but it is still there, your senses telling you that you are being watched, yet there is nothing there. You look around more carefully, yet nothing suspicious is found. That's when you hear a quiet noise behind you. It comes again, this time louder. You turn to look behind you and... Nothing. You are alone. Yet that feeling is there... Something is watching you...
You hear the noise once again. The silence is broken by both the rain falling on the roof and a presence that you cannot ignore. You turn to look behind you, expecting nothing to be there and finding nothing again. You are alone in this empty place. Yet you cannot seem to ignore this uncanny feeling that you are being watched.
Something is there, you are sure of it now. You try to find some trace of whatever it is that's hiding in the dark. The hairs on your back bristle, as if in preparation for a coming fight. The sound, the same sound, but this time closer, almost like a whisper. You see nothing, but you feel everything. Then... A pair of eyes, a dark presence, but not a shape, just a pair of eyes watching you in the darkness…
You stop, frozen in your place, but you are not afraid. Your curiosity drives you forward, and you know you must solve this mystery. You see nothing in the darkness, yet you feel something looking at your back, watching you. You must find the source. You take a deep breath and start walking once again, ignoring this pair of eyes that only seem to follow you. There must be an explanation, a logical answer to this enigma. The only way to find out is to keep going.
You are caught off-guard by the sudden noise, yet you do not lose your calm. You take out your gun and prepare to protect yourself from whatever made the sound. Then your phone rings. It's your husband, calling you.
"Yes, darling? What is it you need?" You say, ready to hear your husband's sweet voice.
"I need you... I need you now..." His voice says with urgency.
"Hold on a second..." you say on the phone. You walk away from the noise, trying to find a spot where the sound does not affect your call and where you can hear your husband's voice better.
”Love?” You called, waiting for your husband to speak.
“Are you still at work?”
“Yeah, I'll call you later, okay?”
“Alright, take your time.” You hang up and call your superior as you turn to look around, yet nothing seems to cause the loud booming sounds. You walk back to where it first happened and this time you find it; you find the source of that loud boom. It is just... a cat, jumping on top of an old machinery.
"Hello, chief, I did not find anything on the lead I was following. I will update you tomorrow with progress on the case." You confirm that you will report your results tomorrow. The news is disappointing, but you must keep digging and find more intel. If this was a false lead, there must be something else, something more substantial. You cannot afford to fail now. You have been invested in this case for too long. And you cannot give up now.
You hang up with your superior and call your husband back.
"I'll be on my way home, love," you say as you scan the building one more time.
"Faster," is all he says, in that soft and sexy, yet hoarse voice. You are surprised by these words and by your husband's tone. He's never spoken like that before. You know that he needs you, and you walk faster and faster. Your steps make more noise as your pace quickens, as if you just want to rush home as quickly as possible.
You drive back home. You have followed a false lead once again. You knew from the start that there would be nothing in the old building, but you had to check for the safety of your case. The intel you received was useless. You are discouraged and defeated. Your failure is now certain. Yet the job of a private detective is never done. You must find new leads and new intel, as there is always a suspect to track and a client waiting for answers. You park the car and head inside your house. As soon as you enter, you hear your husband's footsteps coming towards you.
He grabs you and pulls you close to him, in an embrace. You feel comfort and warmth in his arms. That's when you realize that he was worried about you. That's why he called you. He speaks to you softly and sweetly, as his lips meet your forehead.
"I am glad you are back, darling," he said. You were about to ask your husband if anything happened at work, since he always comes home late, but your husband kisses you, taking away your chance of asking that question or even thinking about anything other than that kiss. He seems to miss you a lot, and you can't help but respond in kind. You kiss him back, as he starts to take your shirt off. The only thing on your mind now is the love your husband has for you. All worries are gone. The only thing left is that love that fills your heart.
The only sound you hear now is the beating of your hearts and your breaths mixing together. The kisses are getting more and more passionate until you cannot tell where one ends, and the other begins. You let your passion take control, knowing that you are now just an extension of your husband's love. He leads you to the kitchen and you both move towards the dining table. The moment is just perfect. Time stands still and nothing matters other than the love you both have for each other.
Your hands move to his chest, feeling his heartbeat beneath your fingertips.. You lean on him, your body flush against his, as you deepen the kiss. As the passionate kiss intensifies, you wrap your legs around his waist, urging him closer. His hands roam over your body, exploring every inch of your body.
“What's gotten into you?” You asked, looking at him with a curious eye.
“What? I just miss you so, so much... You've been busy with your work lately. I know being a journalist isn't an easy job, but we haven't got the chance to be together.”
“Says the one who almost comes home late at night? Is being a lawyer supposed to come home late at night? Are you sure you're not cheating on me?” You know that's not the case. Your husband is very faithful to you, but you can't help but tease him.
