"Nicho, I'm sorry... it just happened. I like you," Jermaine said, staring out at the sea.
Her hair was messy because she hadn't had time to fix it, but she was still beautiful.
"Jermaine, we're friends. Why did you let this happen?" I asked, completely caught off guard. "So... everything I did had a double meaning to you? All of it?"
When she had first arrived at our favorite spot, she wouldn't look me in the eye. She always avoided eye contact when she was anxious, but now she was looking right at me. She stared straight into my eyes. Despite the tension, I couldn't help but smile a little seeing how nervous she was about what I might say next.
"Yes! Every single thing you did meant something to me! So what?" she challenged, her voice rising.
Wow. Now she was mad?
I took a breath and looked away. "I'm so sorry, Jermaine... but I don't look at you that way."
