Mery
These last few days have been so amazing. It was like we never been separated at all. Even though we were ripped apart from each others life for the past 10 years. I’m just really glad to have my Livy back in my life again.
I just hate to live so far away from her. I still have to spent many hours and days without her and it sucks. I just want to have Livy come back home. I want her to at least see how much our coven has change. I want her to feel safe there. I want her to want to be there. I know she has her many, many reason for never coming back. But it was still her coven at the end of the day. It’s where she should be.
Whenever we get a chance, I try to bring the topic up with her. But then the whole mood changes. Livy face goes all serious and I just feel my heart being stab over and over again. I don’t know what I can do to convince her to come back. Livy had showed me her town and everything she learn to love about it there. It was beautiful, it had a good home life to it. I’m really happy she had a place like this to grew up. I just wish I was a part of it with her.
I was so sad when I had learn Livy was killed during the attacked. I only blamed myself for it. If I had only stayed with her instead of going off to hangout with my friends. That one act of mistake costed me my twin sister. And many more. I should of just stayed with her, maybe she would of stayed with me then. She wouldn’t be living with humans if so. Ugh. I should of been a better sister to her. I should of seen the pain she was hiding. I should of knew, I was her twin. I should of knew, i’m so stupid. How could I not seen her being hurt all this time. It was all my fault. I only thought about myself.
I could of help her become better. I could of done a whole lot better. Maybe I could of done something to prevent any of this from happening. She wouldn’t feel so exile from her own coven. I could of done something to lessen the stress of being a witch. I have nothing but complete guilt on my shoulders to weight me down.
“Maybe I just need to keep giving Livy some time,” that’s what I keep telling myself. One of these days she will see that the coven is where she should be. And she’ll come home one day.
I had just gotten back home from spending the day with Liv and her friends. It was Connie’s 18th birthday party and she was a witch too. So I just told my parents the truth on how I meet a new witch friend in town. And it was her gift day, they allow me to go since I was going to be around only witches anyways.
Livy’s friends are pretty cool, we got along right off the back. Connie was a sweet pretty girl. All the boys wanted her. And Mason was a wolf, he was cute. Big and muscular too, any girl will fall for his big dark blue eyes. Livy tells me Mason was her best friend and only friend when she moved there. She sees him as a brother and he looks out for her like she his sister. It made me sad and glad she had someone to replace me with. At least she wasn’t all alone.
My twin replace with Mason.
“Okay today the day i’m gonna talk to mother and father about Livy.” I was excited and a bit nervous to tell them. I never hidden such a big secret from them.
“They will be happy to know she’s still alive. Someone must of gotten her out safe?” They would want to know how she got out and made it to some orphanage.
I walk down the large hall and into the kitchen. It was lunch time and I slept in from the party the other night. Grabbing a plate and some stuff out the fridge. I went on to make myself some eggs. Just something simple and easy. Livy was telling me how it was good to not get catch up with the glory of having magic, you never know how long you may have it. So I’ve been trying this new thing where I go the human route with stuff.
I wasn’t doing great but i’m getting use to it. It does take me a whole lot longer to do most things now. But hey, if Livy can do it then so can I. I crack a egg on the pan and had a few shells fall in.
“Ahh fuckk!” I burn my finger trying to get it out. Normally I would use a spell to heal the pain away. But the human route deals with it.
After I finish making my omelet, I head to the table where mother, father, and aunt Mable was seating.
“Well Meredith I thought you would never come down.” Aunt Mable winks at me and giggle. “Met your mate at all?”
I tilt my head in a slight smile. “No haha.” I started to take a piece of my omelet and notice everyone was looking at me weird. Did I not comb my hair or something. I ran my palms down my hair to flatten it out and still everyone stare.
“What?”
Father clear his throat while mother rise her eyebrows. “Meredith what is that?”
I look down and see my omelet didn’t really look like an omelet. But hey, I tried right. “I was just practicing my cooking skills.” Laughing at my sad omelet.
“Dear, you do know you can just use magic to make yourself something right?” Mother said as she drinks her OJ.
“Ohh honey, let the girl be. She has her reason to not use magic all the time.” Father always has my back. Especially since Liv kind of died. Father has always stood up for me when it came to mother. And mother just gotten more strict. She has been trying to lean off since i’m about to be 18 soon.
“I don’t want to be too dependent on my magic.” I said.
“Good for you girl!” Aunt Mable rise her glass, lifting her wine up to cheers me and mother snarl a look at her.
“Why would you do such a thing Meredith?” She cross her arms and a chill ran down my spine.
“You never know what the next year or decade will be like. We may be accepted now. But whom to say for how long.” Mother seem intrigued by my reason. “I would rather be safe then sorry.” I chocked the words out.
“She’s right you know. The world is changing and you never know where you stand until the village is chasing you down trying to kill.” Mable spoke up agreeing with me.
“Mable!” Father yelled.
“What!”
“Don’t say such awful things. The world is evolving to see more open minded folks. They may be dull but not cruel naive morons like their Ancestors were.” Father worries for the worst. After the attack father has been doing everything he can to protect us all.
“Psh whatever.” Mable went back to drinking her wine.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to cost a fight.” Sometimes I want to bite my tongue clean off after the stupid s**t I say.
“No you’re right dear.” We were all shock by mother’s respond. “It is good to learn the mortal way. Be one step ahead of them. A good leader is always a step or more ahead of her enemies.” Mother smirk and we all go back to eating our meals.
After we all finish. I figure it was a good time to spill the news about Livy. It will be good. I can tell Livy how happy everyone will be to have her back. Maybe hearing that, she might want to come home. So I clear my throat out loud to get everyones attention and straighten my back like I wasn’t scared.
“Umm I have some really good news to tell you guys!” My stomach clinch and my hand shook a little.
Okay just tell them and get it over with. “So you guys know I’ve been spending a lot of time in that town a few hours out?” Everyone shake their head yeah. “And I’d been telling you guys all the great things there. Even the people I have met are great too.”
“Don’t tell me you want to switch schools?” Father asked with a strict tone.
“Of course not, she almost finish. Meredith you can see your friends more once you graduate and go to college.” Mother implying I wanted to switch over.
“No I don’t want to transfer.” f**k it was coming out wrong.
Aunt Mable notice my nervous kicking in and lay a hand on my shoulder. “Just tell us.” She whispers.
Swallowing hard. “Well there’s no better way to say it but, Liv is alive and living as a mortal with mortal parents!” Woossh. Feeling so much better now that everyone knows.
Everyone was shock and mother drop her silverware. The room went quiet and I swear I can hear people talking from inside another house.
“What did you say?!” I couldn’t tell if mother was angry or confuse.
“Elizabeth is alive?” Mable said and I nod my head at her.
“Yeah she is.” Mable smile and jump to her feet hugging me.
“Oh my God this amazing. She’s alive Caden. Elizabeth survived the attack, oh my God this is great.” Well I was glad one person felt just as happy as I am. My parents reacted differently.
“Meredith it’s not funny to make up such lies. We all know Liv didn’t survive!” Father said with a bit anger behind his words.
“I’m not lying father, I swear!”
“Meredith you are almost 18! No more jokes. Resurrection is not a joke. You do not play with that kind of magic.” Mother’s eyes went dark and I felt like a kid caught with cookies behind her back.
“I would never mother.” My heart race. I started to believe I should of kept my mouth shut.
“Good now get ready we have lessons soon.” They don’t believe me. No I can’t leave it like this. They have to know the truth, they need to.
“Elizabeth is alive, I saw her. I’ve been spending my days with her up there. She alive not dead and not resurrected. Just alive, I swear to our Ancestors!” I spit out, hoping now they all believe what I say is true.
Mable seem to be the only one happy. But for mother and father they need more convincing. “Are you sure it was Elizabeth?”
“Yes father. It’s her.” I pulled out my phone and showed them a picture of Liv and I at the party last night along with others.
“Oh my God, it’s true. Its her, she’s alive! Is she well? Is she okay? How is she?” I seem to have convince father the truth.
“She’s fine. She’s happy, healthy and her magic skills are amazing.” Mother’s eyes flick at me with something hidden. She showed no emotion, she was like a doll.
“What?” God I swear mother never listens. I would think with this news she would.
“She’s happy with where she is. She has a job and we been practicing magic together. She’s really strong, even stronger than me.”
“When is she coming home?” Mable asked, taking everyone eyes off of mother’s reaction.
“Well that’s the problem, she doesn’t want to come back.” Confuse looks took over the room.
“Why not?” Mable asked.
Should I tell them she doesn’t feel safe here. Should I come clean about how awful we all have been treating her all those years ago. What should I say?
“I’ve been trying to convince her to come back. But she say she’s happy where she’s at. She doesn’t want to leave her family and friends.” I couldn’t tell them the whole truth. Who knows how they would react.
“Well I am glad she’s safe and happy. Maybe you should ask her to visit us one day. It would be good to see her in good health, face to face.” Mother finally spoke out. She had a grin on too.
“Yeah, I’ll call her later and ask.” Mother seem very off.
“Well is there anything else you can tell us about Elizabeth?” Mable and her gossip nose. She was always the one to know everything and anything. She the witch to get any information about anything.
“She’s happy, that’s all really.” Wasn’t my place to tell them anything else about her.
“Does she have a mate?” Father ask and I can see his face was full of joy. I know he was happy to hear about Livy.
“No she hasn’t.” I said.
I really thought more excitement will come out from my parents but they didn’t seem all that happy. Well mother didn’t really, I couldn’t tell. She was hard to read.
“Ah no rush for you girls. Some people don’t find their mates for decades. Maybe even centuries. Just be free and have fun.” Mable wink and by this point I knew she was drunk already.
I giggle and cheer with her, “ain’t nothing wrong with some fun here and now, right?”
Mable eyes grew with joy at my joke. “Hell yeah bitch.”
*Glasses Clashing*
“Mable I think that’s enough. You should drink some water.” Mother gave Mable a demanding look.
“I’m good, I don’t have to crop the harvest anytime soon.” Even after all this time mother and Mable still never fully got along.
“Mother, what I don’t understand about Elizabeth’s death is the clarity of it all. You were the one who confirm it. How can that be when she’s alive?” The number one question ringing in my head.
“I confirm her death by her blood and mangle up child like clothing.” Why wasn’t she showing any emotions.
“Who was last seen with her?” I ask and mother looked at father slightly.
“I was? I hid her in the woods, thinking she’ll be safe. When I went back, she was missing. Then when we all search for her. Another witch pointed out child like clothes with blood on it.” Why wouldn’t father hid Livy inside a house or somewhere indoors? Why the woods?
“I needed to help fight the wolves. I thought she be safe. I was wrong, but I am truly bless to hear our Ancestors guided her to somewhere safe.” Father got up from the table and grab a beer from the fridge. Using magic to open the bottle.
“We didn’t find a body for many days. The only theory was death.” Mother backed up father’s words.
“Did you check if the blood was hers?” I needed to ask so I can explain it to Livy.
“Of course we did dear. I check for myself, it was Liv’s. Everything pointed out to her being dead. Now one would of thought she survived from that much blood lost.” I try to ask another question but mother cut me off.
“Let’s not look back at such an awful night. Let’s all pray to the Ancestors for keeping our dear Liv safe and guiding her to a happy life. For she should be with her people again soon.” Mother smile and we all let our heads down and pray.
“Well if you all will excuse us, I need to speak to Caden alone.” Mable got up quick and left before mother finish talking.
“Ohh dear will you please send our love to your sister the next time you two talk.” Mother was cheery now. Very oddly like.
“Yes mother of course.” I got up and use my magic to put all our dirty dishes in the sink.
“Ohh and please let her know, we would be hosting a party for her. She can bring whoever she likes.” Mother said with a very high grin that didn’t seem real.
“Yes mother.” I walked out the kitchen and the door slammed shut with extreme force.
I put my ear to the door and I couldn’t hear anything. I whisper a spell to heighten my hearing but still I couldn’t hear anything. Mother and father must of put a spell on from keeping anyone from hearing their conversation. Even more odd, what can be so secretive they had to put a spell up.
Sage
I couldn’t even explain the rage that ran through me. How could any of this be real? How could this have happen?
As the door slammed shut, I glare with darts at my mate. Waiting for him to explain why Liv was alive.
“Sage my love. I’m sorry. I just couldn’t do it. She was better off somewhere else.” Caden spit out stupidity.
“Why, Caden?” Keeping my cool.
“Sage? She’s our daughter. She was just a child.” Stupid, stupid man!!
“Where Caden? Where did you take her?” I asked.
Caden straighten up and spoke clearly. “To an orphanage not near by. I was told she will be safe and adopted by good people. Which she was.”
“Why didn’t you use the spell like I told you.” I knew I should of done it myself. I trusted my husband with an impossible task.
“I did! But when I saw her asleep in my arms. I couldn’t go along with your plan. So I made a new one.” I shook my head at him, I was mad more at myself. “It worked until Meredith and her somehow ran into each other.”
“I wish you would of told me sooner, Caden.” Caden mumble a confuse look. “We could of made sure she never found Liv. Or even better, we could of check if Liv would be a threat.”
Caden gasp at my last words. “Threat?”
“She was a child Sage? Now she almost an adult. What threat could you be thinking of?”
My dear Caden was so naive. He believes everyone is good hearted. “We would have to see, won’t we.” I walk towards my husband, while he took me into his arms.
“Liv shouldn’t be a trusted.” I smile only to comfort my Caden. “We will see how she been all these years.” I caresses my Cadens handsome face.
“We will host a party. And get information on her. We will see if she good or not.” I didn’t want to take my chances. If Liv was as powerful as Meredith says. Liv can be coming back for vengeances.
“It would be good to see our beautiful daughter again, wouldn’t it?” I kiss Caden’s sweet lips. Agreeing for his clear of mind.
Yet I have other plans in store. “Liv will come home. You will see my dear. You did good Caden. Very good.” I lied.
Caden was to weak then and still now. This time, I need to take care of it myself.
We will host a huge party to scoop out Liv’s aura. See how her magic is aline from the last time. And if she brings people, we will have to see for ourself. I will figure out where her faith is at. If she comes for revenge, I will kill her. And if not, I may have to kill her either way.
Time will tell once Meredith can convince her sister to move back. It will be more easier to read Liv. We just need her in the coven’s ground again. And Caden and I need to pretend like this is shocking news. No more slip ups.
