Zane was the most beautiful human I had ever seen. His features were perfectly symmetrical, he had brown hair that was a bit scruffy but definitely suited him. His eyes were a shade of gold, I had never seen eyes like his before, they were calming but also could see into your soul. He had a rugged jaw line and wide muscular shoulders.
The definition of the term; tall, dark and handsome.
Zane was looking at me with a big toothy grin on his face.
Jude nudged me when I didn't say anything.
"Ouch. I.. uh.. I'm busy." I managed to say.
Why was I so drawn to this person, why did I lose all sense of myself when he was around?
"I didn't even say when." Zane said matter of factly.
"Oh. Uh..." I couldn't gather my thoughts or breathe properly.
Zanes hand brushed against mine and sparks flew through my skin.
My eyes locked with Zane, he had me captivated, mesmerized.
What the hell was that?

ZANES POV
From the second that I had laid eyes on her, I knew she was mine.
Jude paid off, befriending her, pulling her into our pack circle.
Loyal Jude.
Jude was to be my third in command, my Betta, my right hand man and he was sure proving his worth already.
My father always told me I was to be the new alpha.
Betrothed to Jess. Her and I had never had the bond. Honestly her entire demeanor made me feel ill.
Jess was mean spirited and not what I wanted for my Luna. I wanted a partner, an equal - not someone who had a fit if it wasn't their way.
Josh said he and Jess were mates. He never mentioned feeling what I just felt when our fingers brushed.
I want to know her better, no, I need to know her better.
As the only way to get out of my arranged marriage to Jess was if one of us met our true mate before the wedding.
But how can this be? Everything that I have seen, smelt. Liese is not a wolf.
Hell I don't even think she was part wolf.
How will she ever accept me? Is she going to be scared?
I needed to be smart and patient. 'Take your time Zane, play it cool' said my inner voice.

JESS' POV
This was a complete disaster. How am I supposed to tell my dad that I failed?
The entire point of moving to this crumby city years ago was to join our families.
Zane and I were betrothed to be married after graduation.
Both our packs were to be merged after that making us a force to be reckoned with, the largest pack in the world.
This b***h was going to ruin it all, and she wasn't even a wolf, just a useless human.
There was no way that she could be Zanes mate, Josh had to be mistaken, heard Zane wrong.
Zane was probably just entertaining the idea of getting out of our destiny together.
Oh silly Josh, I had him so fooled in believing that he and I were mates. Obviously all a ruse to be able to get closer to Zane.
Having Josh on my team allowed me a bit of insight into Zanes mind, Zane and Josh spoke about everything as Josh was Zanes second in command.
Josh was so gullible and loyal to me, it actually made me sick, the way he followed me around like a lost little puppy the only benefit to this arrangement for me was the fact that Josh trusted me enough to tell me absolutely everything that Zane would tell him.
I don't know what was wrong with Zane anyways, every other boy at school wanted me, and all the girls aspired to be like me.
I am perfect, Zane should be considering myself the luckiest guy around instead of chasing after this pitiful human!
I was queen of this school, and would be queen of the world after grad.
One way or another, even if it meant get rid of her myself!
But how...?

JOSHS POV
Mates, pfftt.
What a crock.
No one I had ever met had ever found their "true mate" - it was a fairytale, a myth.
This speak of mates, it was a bedtime story that the elders told.
Plus, Liese seemed like she is a beautiful person, inside and out. But bottom line, she wasn't a wolf.
It would never be allowed.
Especially for our alpha leader to marry a human, if they had children they would all be half-breeds.
'Filthy half-breeds' I mutter to myself.
Although maybe this could be beneficial to me.
As long as Zane was preoccupied by this girl, maybe things would get easier for Jess and I.
Maybe she wouldn't have to marry him, maybe I wouldn't end up losing her.
Jess and I tried to play it off that we were mates, but to her father it didn't matter, she was betrothed to Zane. It was to be the largest merge of packs in history.
But if Zane married a human. 'HA!, brilliant!', he would very likely be overturned.
I was next in line.
I was his second.
I am going to be alpha.

As we pulled back up at school, Josh parked his car.
While everyone was talking about their after school plans and planning for the weekend ahead, I grabbed my books and ran to class.
I sat down in my desk just as the bell went.
My head was kinda reeling trying to figure out what that feeling was when my hand touched Zanes.
Was this what they mean when they speak of "soulmates"?
There was no way soulmates was a real thing, this was a myth, a fairy tale.
This was not destiny, the reason I was here was a tragedy of Shakespearian magnitude. All only because of mom's passing and dad's shitty parenting.
"Hey Liese!" - I looked up. Damn I forgot Zane was in my History class. This is going to feel like the longest period ever.
