Lucta’s pov
Just when I was starting to give up, I saw another wolf running towards us. "Help," I whispered, my voice barely audible.
I'd never seen a wolf with fur as black as coal that shone so brightly under the sky. His red eyes seemed to gleam with an inner fire, and for some reason, those eyes felt very familiar.
He ran towards me and dragged the wolf off, throwing it to the ground. The other wolf growled, writhing in pain, but the black wolf didn't give it time. He immediately slashed at its throat with his claws, pinning it to the ground and tearing at its neck with his teeth.
The other wolf lay on the ground, growling weakly as blood poured out of its wounds. I stood up, my heart still racing.
"Don't kill him," I said, but the black wolf didn't seem to hear me. He stared at me, his eyes gleaming with a fierce intensity.
The wolf that had attacked me lay crying on the ground, but the black wolf didn't move. He didn't care about the bleeding wolf.
He stood there, his chest heaving with exertion, his eyes fixed on me.
I stared back at him, feeling a sense of familiarity that I couldn't explain. Those red eyes...I had seen them before.
And then I remembered. This was the boy I had helped a long time ago. The boy my father had kidnapped.
I felt a pang of pain in my side and looked down to see blood pouring out of a wound. I was bleeding, and I was probably going to die.
The black wolf immediately transformed into a human being - a tall man with black hair. He ran to my side, his face pale with concern.
"f**k," he whispered, pressing his hands to my wound. "Hold on."
He tore off his shirt and used it to tie my waist, trying to stop the bleeding.
"Are you the one I called for help?" I asked, my voice weak.
"Yes," he replied, his eyes locked on mine.
"Wait," I whispered, feeling my life slipping away. "The omegas...they're in the water hall."
He nodded, his face set in a determined expression. "I'll find them. Don't worry."
I tried to smile, but it was too late. My vision was fading, and I knew I was going to die.
"It's too late," I whispered. "Even the world doesn't want me to survive."
He shook his head, his eyes desperate. "The world may not want you to survive, but I do. You have to survive."
I tried to thank him, but my voice was barely audible. My eyes closed, and everything went black.
I could hear a faint voice screaming, "Lucta! No!" But it was too late. I knew I was going to die. There was no survival for someone like me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I woke up, I was in this room that was painted white - there were no other colors. I could hear the sound of beeping coming from something beside me. I tried to speak, but my throat hurt so bad I started coughing.
"Lucta" I heard a deep voice say.
It seemed like there was someone beside me, but I didn't know who.
"You’re awake?" the voice said. And then ran out the door. He returned and gave me a cup of water.
A few moments later a lady walked in and she placed a cuff on me and started pointing lights in my eyes
"Where am I and what are you doing?" I asked.
"In the hospital, and I am checking to see if you're ok," the nurse said. Ah, I seemed to understand why everywhere was white.
I looked around, taking in the hospital room. It was nothing like the makeshift clinic in our pack. This place was clean, modern, and well-equipped.
"We didn't have hospitals like this in our pack," I said.
"I can imagine," she replied.
"You must be a doctor?"
"No I'm not," she said with a smile. "I'm a nurse."
I smiled back, impressed. "Wow, I've never met a nurse before."
The nurse chuckled. "I'm glad to be your first."
As I talked to the nurse, I couldn't help but wonder how I was going to pay for all this. In our pack, we had to pay a lot of money to the human doctor who secretly treated us.
"I don't have money," I said, feeling anxious.
The nurse smiled reassuringly, turning to the man beside me. "It's okay, this is on the park."
"The park?" I repeated, turning to the man who had been quietly sitting beside me.
He looked up, his grey eyes meeting mine. I had forgotten he was there.
"You're...you're the one who saved me," I said, recalling the night of the fire.
He nodded, a hint of sadness in his eyes. "Do you not remember me?"
I shook my head, feeling guilty. "I'm sorry, I don't know who you are."
The boy I had helped all those years ago had red eyes, but this man had grey eyes. I didn't know who he was.
"Do you work for Soren?" I asked, trying to place him.
The nurse gasped, and the man's eyes narrowed slightly.
"I am Soren," he said, his voice low and smooth.
I gasped, shocked. "What do you mean you're Soren? Soren had red eyes, and you have grey eyes. What's going on?”
The room fell silent, and then Soren burst into laughter, his deep voice echoing off the walls. The nurse smiled, but I just sat there, confused. What was so funny?
After composing himself, Soren explained, "I can control my powers now. My original eye color is grey. The red only comes out when I'm in my alpha form."
I nodded, trying to understand. "So, on a regular day, you have grey eyes?"
Soren smiled. "Yes."
I couldn't help but stare at his eyes. "They're pretty."
The nurse looked at me with surprise, but I didn't understand why. When we were young, Soren was like a little brother to me. I used to beat him up, but not all the time, since he was an alpha.
"You're the only one who would say that” he said with a wide grin.
I laughed.
“A hug?” I asked with my hands wide open.
“Ah, yes” he said and then hugged me "I've missed you,"
"Me too," I replied.
Soren pulled back and said, "Let's forget about the past. There's a lot to talk about, like your pack."
But before we could start discussing anything, my stomach growled. "Can I get something to eat? I'm quite hungry."
Soren nodded, and a few seconds later, someone rolled in a cart filled with food. I had never seen such a variety of dishes before. They looked delicious.
In the pack, omegas were given very little food, and we tried to eat as little as possible to avoid gaining weight. Alphas ate a lot, but we weren't given the best food. As the shame and disgrace of the pack, I had even less to eat than the other omegas.
Seeing all this food was overwhelming, and I dug in with gusto. As I ate,
I had a lot to say, but the moment I finished, exhaustion hit me like a ton of bricks. I fell into a deep sleep, tired beyond words.
