Chapter One (1)
Gripped his blue Polo - Shirt, looking into his eyeballs fiercely, like a lion who caught its prey, after a hot chase.
I won't allow you to move an inch unless you pay for flinging off those bottles! Leah said, panting.
Is that what gave you the guts to embarrass me in this way? Johnson replied with disgust.
She ignored the onlookers, seated at the Roxy bar in Vancouver, British Columbia, who watched the scene she created with Johnson at the popular Bar. She held onto his clothes, despite plucking off two out of the three buttons of his Polo - shirt.
An unidentified young man, enjoying his chilled wine, rushed to them trying to get Leah's hand off Johnson's collar and to make peace between the duo.
Calm down young lady, don't strangle him with this act, he will definitely do what is necessary. He said.
He should do that without hesitating. I will not be held responsible for his misdeeds. If I lay my hands off him, he will disappear into thin air and I will be made to bear the brunt of the losses. The wines he broke are quite expensive, even more than the one he ordered! Leah was exasperated.
If that's the case, young lady, what's the total estimate of the loss? The unidentified man inquired.
The total estimate of those wines is $40. She replied to him.
Alright, let's go to the pay point, so that I will offset the bill. The man said. Leah couldn't hide her smile, while she appreciated him and let go of Johnson.
Unknown to Leah, a man leaning his back on his Black Toyota SUV, parked at a close range, puffing his Belmont, was busy observing and marveling at how her energy could match up with a full grown man.
Wow! What a pragmatic girl, smart and full of action. Despite the number of onlookers that were staring at her, she remained unwavering, until her act paid off. No doubt, she will be a round peg in a round hole that will turn fortunes around in the drug business. Delivery of nose candies to clients offshore won't be a challenge to her, because I can perceive her boldness from a distance. Her boldness is the prerequisite to maneuvering her way at the point of takeoff. Prince Robin introspect.
Normalcy returned to the arena, as everyone continued their merriment. Johnson’s heart was filled with joy. The burden of paying for his mistakes was eventually lifted, because he didn't have much on him. The little he had was paid for the wine he ordered. After payment was made by the man, Johnson couldn't return to where he sat again because he was ashamed, so he left the bar.
Hey Jack! Take this card and get me “screaming Eagle” at the bar counter. Ensure that the waitress (pointing towards Leah’s direction) who caused an uproar, not quite long, is who should serve the wine. Prince Robin instructed his driver.
Sir! Do you mean that beautiful skinny girl? Jack asks a rhetorical question.
No! Her twin. i***t!
I will deal with you decisively if you repeat that question again. Prince Robin, gave a sarcastic response.
I’m sorry sir!
He apologized and highlighted from the vehicle to grant his boss's request.
Hello! Do you have a chill screaming eagle? Jack asked the bartender.
Yes sir! There is, but not too chill. The bartender replied.
Okay, that's not an issue, but I needed this waitress (pointing to where Leah was standing) to serve my boss the wine. Jack instructed.
Noted! Bartender replied, while he ordered Leah to follow Jack with the bottle of wine.
Good Evening Sir, hers is the wine you ordered. Should I open it for you? She asked
Evening young lady, don't bother yourself opening it, just hand it over to my driver, he will do what is necessary. The prince said while puffing his cigarette.
Okay sir! She handed the wine over to Jack, while she turned back to resume her post duty.
Hey! Young lady (Prince drew her left hand to get her attention) I saw the scene you created here not too long ago, and I was impressed with the way you stood your ground till your money was paid. He said to her, smiling.
Yes sir, I needed to act in such a manner, in order for it not to affect my pay-check. Such an incident happened to one of my colleagues, and he paid dearly for it. I don't want such a fate to befall me. Leah responded
That's a good one. Such an act is commendable, it proves the fact that you protect the interests of the establishment that employs you. Prince Robin said with a grin.
Thanks for the accolade, sir. She said smiling.
Anyway, I perceived your dedication to work from a distance and that drew my attention to you. I currently own a business that deals majorly in export, and a vacancy exists currently in the firm. Being the CEO, your action has proved beyond every iota of doubt that you have the capacity to deliver the desired objective of the firm. Prince Robin stated emphatically.
Sir….! Leah stuttered. I don't have a qualification that could make me the rightful fit for the vacancy. I only possess a High school Diploma, which deprives me of the ability to measure up to set standards required for the job role.
I'm less concerned about your certificate. I'm only interested in your embedded abilities that played out a few minutes ago. Moreover, you don't even know the job role yet, so don't worry. Here is my visiting card, it contains my contact address. You're free to call me for better engagement after you weigh the option. Bye! He slammed the door.
Jack, get me out of here! Prince Robin instructed
Okay sir! He ignited the engine and drove off.
Leah became dumbfounded for a while after he departed, but because of being promised a better paying job, she couldn't hold back her smiles while she walked back to her work. The good news becomes intoxicating. The remaining hours to her closing time seemed elongated as she was very anxious to feed her mom's ears with all that had been happening today at her workplace.
(Pressing the doorbell) she got no response after standing for a while.
Mum! She tried calling through her bedroom window.
Yes dear! Her voice shows she was deeply asleep. She arose quickly to open the door for her daughter.
Evening Mum, I've been standing outside for a while, I got no response after pressing the doorbell, not until I came calling via your window. Leah expressed her plight.
Oh! I'm awfully sorry dear, I dozed off while relaxing on the bed. I could hear the sound of the bell, but it seemed very far, not until I heard your voice. Mother said.
She observed her daughter's cheerful mood.
Hey dear! What's the good news about it? I can perceive you're happy. Mother inquired.
Leah chuckles. You're right mum, but can you guess the reason behind it?
Spare me the stress, daughter, you know I'm not good at that. Tell me what it is and let me rejoice with you. Mother became bright-eyed.
Leah gazed, smiling back at her mum.
Okay, since you've refused to, I will save you the stress of hovering around with your thoughts. She replies to her Mum.
Thanks, Darling. The mother smiled, looking at her daughter's lips.
I had an uproar with one of our customers at the bar. He broke some bottles of expensive wine I had in my custody, which I will be held responsible for the loss if he fails to pay. Unknown to me, a man was watching the scene I created. However, instead of seeing the act as being rude, he applauded me for being smart and proactive. He offered me a job role in his business setup and told me to contact him if interested. His calling card is here with me. She narrated.
Was he aware you didn't have a Bachelor's Degree yet? Mother asked.
I told him about it, but he said he had no business with that. He said I've exhibited the traits he needed for the job role. She replies.
Anyway, I believe you're old enough to make some decisions yourself. I would only advise you to tread a path that will not hurt you now or later. Though it might be an opportunity in disguise to pursue your career by raising funds from there. Mother advised.
Thank you for the awesome advice Mum. I will visit him tomorrow to find out what the job role entails and finalize our discussion as regards it. Leah hugged her Mum and pecked her right chin for being supportive.
