I stepped into the small kitchen. I glanced at both guys and thought to myself that some things never changed.
Dom was working kneading bread and Jeffery sat at the small breakfast table reading an old newspaper.
“Hey, guys!” I said as I held a light note to my voice. “Dom, can I do anything to help?” I clapped my hands together, hiding my edginess.
Both Dom and Jeffery jerked their heads up in my direction.
“I hope you had a good rest, yes?” Dom flashed a bright smile.
Jeffery’s nose wrinkled as he eyeballed me. “Dom, she ain’t been restin’. See those big puffy circles under her eyes?”
