THE LAND OF YONDER Standing at the sink in Nick’s bathroom, I turned on the cool water. Thanks to his generator, we had clear running water. I splashed my face a good three times, letting the water sooth my heated skin. I didn’t bother toweling. I let the water drip from my face as I paused in the mirror. I stared back at a face filled with despair and something I recognized from my past, emptiness. My throat ached with defeat. After everything I’d gone through, I stood in silence staring at a hollow face. I was lost. What if I screw this up too? What if I let my temper get the best of me, and I acted before thinking?
