Chapter 10 Doug sat on the front porch of his grandparents’ house, feet on the pebbly concrete sidewalk, knees not quite up to his shoulders. Lost in memories of sitting exactly there when his feet dangled without touching the ground at all. The sun had barely risen high enough to peek over the house, casting long, deep blue shadows on the weedy mess in front of him. From the looks of the slate gray sky and the cool, damp feel of the breeze, yesterday’s bright sunshine wouldn’t be appearing. The thought of how his grandfather would have reacted to the grass getting into this kind of shape was enough to make Doug shiver.
