THE GIFT
Lyra's heart raced as she watched the Alpha take a deep breath in. She knew he had reached a decision with Luna Tara on what to do with her after what happened yesterday. The previous day, Luna Tara wasn't pleased with the food that was served, Chef Tatu the head chef was the one who cooked the food but she lied against Lyra. She was locked up and left alone, hungry till the next morning. "You'll be sent to the Bloodstone pack. Alpha Xavier has agreed to sign the peace treaty and you will be given as a gift", Alpha Leo said. "A gift?" Her heart raced. What did that mean? Alpha Lucas sighed. "Sorry, I can't be used as a gift," Lyra said, trying to sound respectful with her statement. "Why?" He asked with a flush of anger in his eyes. She had many answers to this question, Lyra wasn't going to allow herself to be traded for a pack that wasn't even hers to start with, never! "I want to get married for love not for a trade, I don't know if I'd even like the Alpha you are sending me to," she said with the last atom of courage in me. She tightened her eyes in the hope that he was going to consider her plea, Alpha Lucas had never thought of selling her, it must have been his cruel wife and daughter that suggested this. Lyra was met with his loud laughter, he shook his head and walked to where she was standing. Trickles of sweat rolled down her back as she shook with fear, sharing breathing space with the Alpha she hated was something she saw as disgusting. "You know for someone weak and wolfless, I find it hard to understand where you get your courage from sometimes" "Alpha forgives me, I've heard rumors about the Bloodstone pack, they are merciless. I can't go there please save me" Brightstone pack had dangerous wolves but Bloodstone was a pack you wouldn't want to play with. "You are a really smart girl, but you see, that's the reason I need to agree to their request ---- they asked for a she-wolf and I'm granting their request to keep my pack safe" he was right, she was a nobody and the easiest person to give out. "I don't give a s**t about you, just like your father didn't care when he stole my wife from me" he roared. What was he talking about? She knew there was a main reason why he destroyed her pack. But why did he spare her? "What do you mean?" She asked curiously. "I don't have the time for all this child" He walked over to the door, attempting to open it when he paused and turned to look at her. "Ensure you pack all your stuff, today will be your last night in Brightstone" Hearing him, she felt tears form in her eyes. She wasn't happy here but she never dreamt of leaving this place in this manner. "One more thing, do not try anything naughty," she watched him leave the room. She couldn't move, her life was taking a drastic turn, for the worse. She was an orphan, progressed to a slave now a commodity that is being gifted out. She needed to clear her head, all these were too much for her to handle. She ran nonstop till she got to the sacred building. She always went there when she needed to clear her head --- at least for a while. There was a pool nearby, and she strolled to take a shower there, after all, the toilet in the pack meant for servants was no good. She was about to pull her clothes when she heard footsteps. "Who is there?" Fear gripped her, Lyra quickly wore her clothes back. Lyra heard giggling and she recognized the voice immediately. "Rena!!" She laughed. Rena came out from where she was hiding, laughing and holding her stomach tightly. "You almost jumped out from your skin" Lyra let out a sigh, she was such a happy soul. Rena was also an Omega but her parents were members of the Brightstone pack. Her father owed the Alpha a huge amount of money so she was taken as a servant instead since her parents could not pay back the debt. " Besides, what are you doing here all alone? It's late already " Rena said as they walked back to the building. "Tomorrow is your birthday, let's go fishing tomorrow when we are done with chores," Rena said excitedly. Lyra had to tell her about the new development, her eighteenth birthday had to be her worst. "I'll be leaving for Bloodstone pack tomorrow" Lyra managed to say. The reality of what was happening just dawned on her. She would start a new life there without Rena, her best friend. " Leaving where?" Rena asked with a confused look as they walked slowly on the empty road, pulling the flowers she saw as they walked. "Alpha Lucas is going to give me off to the Alpha of the Bloodstone pack as a gift" Lyra used every courage within her to say those words, it still felt like a dream. Rena stopped in her tracks immediately when she heard what her best friend had said. She widened her eyes with a frown, looking frightened and shocked at the same time. "What?!!" She yelled, placing her hand on her waist as she shook her head in disbelief. Lyra could imagine how shocked she was, but there was nothing she could do about it. "What did you do this time?" She asked. It was no secret that Lyra always ended up in the bad books of the Alpha's family. She was the only servant who stayed permanently in the Alpha's quarters except at night when it was time to sleep, so she saw them every day. "Chef Tatu lied against me. She had prepared breakfast and added capsicum to the meal" "Let me guess, that proud parrot was there right?" Rena cut her short and rolled her eyes as she spoke. "Yes, she was" Lyra laughed. It was the first time she was laughing that night and that was one thing she loved about Rena. She was hilarious and always made her happy even when she got sad. She was going to miss her. "What can we do about this?" She asked as she interlocked her hands with Lyra's as if trying to say something but lacking words. Her face folded and she pushed her lips forward. "I'm going to run away" Lyra blurted out. She had been thinking about this deeply, she could run away and become a rogue. It's better than getting married to a monster. She had heard rumors that the Alpha she was being sent was very brutal and cold, he was a ruthless Alpha. This was her only option. "Are you sure about this, Lyra?" Lyra was scared but she needed to take action. Rena was also a servant, but at least she still had her family here, she still had hopes for a good future. Lyra didn't have such luxury. "Yes," Lyra uttered plainly, "I am sure." "I'll go with you," Rena said with tears forming at the back of her eyes. She rarely spoke to the other workers, so Lyra understood how sad she felt. She couldn't afford to miss her best friend. "Nah! You can't do that, Rena," Lyra shrugged and smiled. The Alpha wasn't going to agree to losing two workers in a day. Lyra was about to say something else when she felt a sharp pain in her head, someone had just hit her with a hard metal. "Rena, go back to the pack now! We'll take it from here" Lyra heard a deep male voice say before she passed out.
