CHAPTER ONE: Guilty Pleasure
Mia was in her Grandma's room that night. She felt heavy and cold, a mix of emotions. She felt love. She felt like something was missing in her. She was no longer the innocent Mia that Grandma used to know. The girl who would outright reject any idea of being in an intimate romantic relationship with any man. That day, she visited Grandma after coming back from college with her innocent look and innocent smile, Grandma could almost always guarantee that Mia was still a virgin and should keep her virginity till marriage. Mia may not have defiled herself. Something stronger had happened. She had the first taste of what it felt like to feel the warmth of a man. She couldn’t forget her first kiss with Mateo. As she folded her Grandma’s clothes, she kept thinking. "How would Grandma react if she finds out about this? Look how much I have changed. It’s just a kiss, nothing serious, but I feel so heavy. I feel guilty. Grandma has always taught me moral. Grandma has always taught me to keep myself pure. Always taught me that having any romantic thoughts outside marriage is not right. All the morals, all the discipline, where are they now, Mateo? I almost certainly feel incomplete without you, but I don’t know what the conflict is about. I just pray that Grandma doesn’t take this too far when she finds out. But who’s going to tell her? She paused for a moment with a cute smile. "Well, it's just a kiss. A kiss from my dearest won't hurt me, besides I'm now an adult and I should have secrets... sending more kisses to you, Mateo." “Mmm, Mia, focus.” She tapped herself and continued packing the clothes. A few seconds later, Grandma walked in quietly. “Mia, were you talking to yourself earlier? I heard whispers from this room.” “No, I was… maybe it’s the noise from the neighbors. I think so." She replied like someone caught red-handed. Her eyes darting around and her voice trembling. She tried to sound casual. Grandma replied, “Alright, sweetheart, did you hear what happened in the neighborhood today?" Mia said, “No, I didn’t. What happened?" Grandma replied, “A young girl got into an intimate relationship with a man who is not yet her husband. But then the man got her pregnant and abandoned her. He ran away. Mia said, “So sad. Poor girl. Then Grandma said, “Miaaaa... this can happen to anyone, it's not entirely her fault. Had she known better it wouldn't have happened to her. I don't want this to happen to you, my dear, you are so precious to me. I want you to keep yourself pure until that prince charming comes for you.” Mia replied, “Alright Grandma, I promise I will." Then Grandma left for the kitchen to make the herbal tea. Just after Grandma left, Mia realized she had just told one of the biggest lies. The conflict came again. She started muttering to herself, “What’s happening to me? Why am I changing? How would Grandma know that I’ve had such a strong romantic kiss that almost consumed me? Yes, I’m still a virgin, but the fears of sin have already defiled me. Well, that man might have run away and abandoned the girl, but I know you won’t because your love is too strong and you cannot leave me. Besides, you are a Billionaire and you can take absolute care of me. I love you, Mateo. She finally completed the packing, went to Grandma’s room where she was taking her tea, gave her a kiss on the cheek, and then went inside to lie on the bed to sleep. Her phone rang immediately. She thought it was Ava, her college mate. But then, Mateo called. Mia's hand started shaking. She didn't know how to react. She didn't even know if she should pick the call or not. Her fingers moved. She picked up the phone. Looking intently at the screen with her eyes fixed on the caller ID "My Savior" "Hi... hi... Mia, I have been staring at my phone for an hour. I was actually wondering if it was too soon to call. I’m not used to feeling this... unsettled. But yesterday changed everything. Honestly, I didn't think I was capable of feeling like this. I have always been so focused on myself, so guarded... but you have completely wrecked that. Yesterday was breathtaking, the second I felt your lips against mine, everything else just... went quiet. Please, tell me that I can see you tomorrow. I need to discuss something important... My family, they should meet you. Please don't say no!" While Mateo said all this, Mia was actually smiling. Then she replied, Mateo... you have no idea how much I needed to hear that. To be honest, I have been sitting here feeling so overwhelmed. I have always tried to be the person everyone expected me to be, the girl who stays guarded and pure. But that kiss yesterday... it didn't feel like a mistake to me. It felt like I was finally waking up. I think I have loved you since the moment we met, even when I was trying to convince myself you were just an arrogant stranger. I need to see you too. I think you are the only one who can make this unsettled feeling go away. But while Mia said this with smiles, cuddling herself on the bed, something fell. A noise came from the door. A cup fell down. She turned immediately to look at what it was, but then it was Grandma who shouted, "What exactly?"
