chapter 1
The laughter got louder. My friends laughed at me: "Lene, you like Vito too much to leave him. Where can you find such a good man?"
Vito sipped his wine, stretched his legs, took a drag on his cigarette and exhaled smoke rings. "She thought she could find someone as good as me even after she left me. "
Vito's brother laughed and covered his stomach. "If you can divorce, I will do anything you want!"
They just laughted.
Even the waitress beside Vito laughed along.
She knows I'm his wife, but she still sits next to him.
She's leaning on Vito.
Everyone was used to it.
I didn't like this kind of place before.
I came today because my best friend got divorced and we're celebrating her being single.
"Are you here just to flirt with my husband?"
Her smile froze.
"Sorry, I was joking!"
She was terrified.
Vito's smile was thin and hard to read.
I said, "I'm just joking, why are you so excited?"
She still wanted to answer, but Vito's face had changed.
She poured wine for everyone with red eyes.
One of Vito's brother felt sorry for her and complained to me, "I'm just kidding, Lene! He won't divorce you!"
I looked at him and said,"When I get divorced, will you be the first to perform the upside-down spinning and shitting act?"
He was speechless.
Another one slapped the table and laughed: "She's funny when she's serious. "
I looked at him and said, "Stand closer when he starts, so you can get covered in his s**t. Then take a video and send it to me. I'll post it online for everyone to see."
That guy was confused.
The room went silent.
The waitress wanted to say something to break the silence.
I didn't let her off the hook: "My husband is a good man. Why don't I give him to you?"
She looked at me, her mouth full of orange.
I looked at Vito.
"Lene! It's just a joke. Don't make it awkward."
"Apologise to them now!"
My friend Thea said, "Lene and I talk like this all the time. She's just joking. Today is a good day for me to be single again. Let's drink a toast for me. "
"Come on! Cheers! "
"Happy single life!"
"Long live singleness!"
Everyone stood up.
My best friend was trying to make things better.
I slammed the glass and let the party go on.
Vito was angry.
"Lene! If you don't apologise, I'll divorce you."
"Fine, I'll divorce you."
I sent Vito the divorce agreement on my phone. "Read the terms and conditions. If you agree, I'll print it and you can sign it tonight."
Vito was shocked, then dismayed and disbelieving.
He looked at me, as if he was trying to find a joke.
He should have seen that this agreement was from six months ago.
I left without looking at anyone.
I hate this kind of drinking game.
They always made jokes about me, and Vito laughed along. I told Vito not to call me to these parties in the future. But Vito said, "They are all good colleagues who work with my company, and you are my wife, your relationship with them can't be bad."
"They're just joking, Lene. "
Vito says that. I don't know if I'm sensitive.
I asked my best friend, who is a strong career woman. She always has some truth in what she says.
She said, "His brothers joke about you to find conversation. Don't take it seriously!"
His company grew and his brothers went from one to another.
They still talk about me.
Vito said, "It's just a joke."
They don't respect me because he doesn't.
They're trying to please him.
He was drunk when he came back.
"Lene, I'll leave him to you."
He didn't dare say anything and ran away.
"Water..."
Vito supported my shoulder and shouted.
I helped him into the bathroom and poured water into his mouth.
He drank happily.
Then he sat and fell asleep.
I went to sleep in my room.
When I woke up, I heard Vito roar.
"Lene!"
"Where's breakfast and the sober soup? There's nothing to eat!"
The doorbell rang.
It's my takeaway.
I took my takeaway past the grumpy Vito.
"I ordered breakfast for me. If you want to eat, order some yourself."
Vito knocked my takeaway to the floor.
"You've been crazy since last night! Do you really want to leave me?"
"Yes."
He froze, his face showing panic as he watched me calm down.
"Do you want to rebel?"
"You are not my boss. We can't talk about rebellion. We are getting a divorce."
I put the divorce papers in front of him.
"Sign it."
He laughed coldly: "I've worked for seven years to earn this home. You've done nothing. What have you contributed? You dare mention divorce? You'll be ashamed."
"Your friend is from a famous university. She has money and career. Her husband is not good enough for her. She can change at any time. What else do you have after leaving me?"
"Why do you want to divorce me? Have I treated you badly? Other people your age are still working, but you are a rich wife living in a luxury house and driving a luxury car. So I don't understand, what are you still not satisfied with?"
"I've never done you wrong! Lene, you've been comfortable for too long and want me to feel guilty? "
I said, "Sign the papers and come with me to the Civil Affairs Bureau. Hurry up."
Talking too much in a fight is a bad idea.
