Bella POV
Laney lays unmoving on the grass beside me. The pain shooting through my chest nearly brings me to my knees beside her, but I remain unsteadily on my feet. So, I keep standing, face towards the east. My husband is just on the other side of the pack house, but his pain assaults our bond so strongly that it feels as though he is right next to me. The scent of ash rises into my nostrils, permeating through my whole being, lighting an inferno of rage within my belly.
“Everyone fall back to your second positions,” I order those remaining with me. though hesitant, they all turn, running either to the woods or the west side towards Eli. All except Hannah, who’s wolf hovers protectively over Laney’s prone body.
