Today we bury our dead. It's midnight, the day after the battle. The whole pack is standing under the light of the waxing moon watching in grief-stricken silence as Eli blesses those we lost. The words swirl through my head.
By the moon we are blessed, and at our final dusk, we rise toward the sky to join her.
A Dea, tibi sung beati.
Over and over it rings around my skull as their bodies are lit in flames. Each body is watched with respect as it burned to ash, and the smoke rises into the black sky to become one with the moon, and her goddess.
