Kaelis' pov
I jumped from the bed the moment I regained consciousness and met two pairs of eyes —sharp and bright, pressing on me.
"I need to leave," I spat out, almost too quickly.
"Leave?" The old woman asked, her face in confusion, but I didn't buy into it; instead, I turned to Myra.
"I need to get the f**k out of here!" I yelled.
They were lying-- this was all a trick to play me. How the hell would my old memories have that... that... words failed me on how to describe him.
The more I thought about it-- the more I got riled up.
I couldn't have known him, and even if I did, then... I let out a loud gasp... No way, absolutely no way in hell that...
"Child..." The older woman's voice rang out again.
I shot a glance at her and I was so damn sure that my eyes showed how furious I was. She had lied and I couldn't believe it, she had betrayed my trust... no, not her... I shifted my gaze to Myra... She was the one who had betrayed my trust.
I was into medicine and believing anything otherwise would have worked was so stupid. I hit my forehead with my hand, as a way of reminding myself that I was being foolish.
"You shouldn't leave," Myra said, her voice was calm but I was too furious to even care.
"She is a fraud," I blurted out, causing the woman to gasp in fear... mostly Myra.
"A fraud?" Myra asked.
"The vision I saw was forged and to..." I took in a deep breath as a means to steady my already uneasy heart. "Did he put you up to do this nonsense?"
"What... What are you spewing?" Myra questioned, her hands were already on her waist and her legs could be heard hitting the floor in precise rhythm.
"Look, I don't have time to explain, but what I do know is that I don't need your help or anyone else's."
Without saying another word, I moved to the door...
"You wouldn't dare take another step, Kaelis," Myra's voice boomed from behind me, causing my hand to remain stuck on the doorknob.
I slowly turned to look at Myra, whose facial expressions had changed into something darker, and her hair, which was covered under the hoodie, had been let loose. Her eyes had become darker than usual, and I felt a colder breeze blow past me... it... It was colder than the one even outside the hut.
"What... What is going on, Myra?" My voice shook as I spewed them out, my chest had become tight, and my throat felt dry.
Myra turned to the old witch, ignoring my presence. "I gave you everything and you screwed it up?"
Myra's shoulders, which had been deflated a while ago, had become fully straightened, and her dark eyes stared straight at the old woman like they could burn her. Almost impulsively, the older woman fell to the ground, her head buried in the floor.
"Forgive me, master. It won't happen again," she pleaded.
Master?
What the f**k was going on?
Myra muttered some words and a dark smoke came from the fireplace and surrounded the old woman.
"Master, please! It was all a mistake," the old woman pleaded.
"You know I don't do too well with failures. So, just stay and let it do its job. You wouldn't even feel it." She let out a laugh, so sinister and dark.
The smoke ran through the woman's body and entered through her openings as her eyes suddenly became sunken in and her body dried up instantly. Her body fell with a soft thud to the ground
I tried to think about the whole unraveling going on, but I knew everything that was happening wasn't as it seemed, and I didn't want to wait anymore, so I tried to open the door.
I heard the door click, but it wasn't opening. I tried the second time, but the same thing happened. This made me jumpy, then a laugh broke through loud and mocking.
I turned my head slightly to see where it came from and it was from Myra. She had changed totally.
Her fingers were now covered in soot and her legs were on the floor-- bare. She tilted her head before walking closer to where I stood as I held on to the doorknob for dear life.
Sweat drenched my forehead and it dripped down my face. My breath had become quicker than it ought to have been, and my eyes blinked faster... Way too fast.
"You are one smart woman, Kaelis," she said, her voice was calm but it didn't sound like she was praising me. "I will give it to you but I have been doing this a long time to be outwitted by a child." Her face, which once held a smile, had contorted into a frown.
My body was now fully turned in her direction, shaking in my boots.
"My... My... Ra," I called out, my voice shook in fear, but her face remained unfazed.
"You were to get your memories back and leave this place, but you had to be smart about everything," she replied. Her voice was sharp and threatening.
"The vision was wrong, Myra. I didn't know why I saw..."
"I have heard a lot about the female warrior of the Ashfang Tribe who has troubled all their enemies, but here you are scared. It is funny," she answered.
Her fingers made strange movements as I felt a force pushing me toward her. I tried fighting it but the more I pushed back... The harder the force fought against my resistance.
"Don't fight it, Child." She stretched out her hand as the force pushed me right into her hand, holding me by the neck.
"Let... Me... Go..." I pleaded as I strained against her grip.
"I thought you would be a little stronger than what I had heard about you, Kaelis. But I was wrong because you look..." She tilted her head as her eyes raked over me. "Weak," she added.
Her strength was nothing compared to that of a low-ranking lycan. She didn't break a sweat as she flung me across the room. My back hit the wall so hard, I thought I heard my spine crack.
"What do you... Want from me?" I strained to speak against the pain that ran through my body.
She walked to where I lay and crouched in front of me as she moved the strand of hair that was stuck to my face, then she let out a scoff. "What I want from you is easy, Kae. You need to remember," she replied.
"I am trying to," I spat out.
She didn't say a word; instead, she stood up as she pushed her hair behind her ear. I felt her hand grip my hair as she dragged me along the floor, then as if the pain from the grip wasn't enough-- I felt a sharp pain in my stomach...
She kicked me.
Again, the pain came as I strained to stand up but my strength wasn't enough to help me.
"Don't bother. You think I wouldn't take precaution against the Luna of Ashfang?"
Luna?
"Lu... Luna? Was I a luna?"
She laughed and then she hit me with the palm of her hand as I felt my vision suddenly become blurry but a loud bang was heard. I heard voices but could not see who it was as I drifted into the darkness.
