~TRAGER'S POV~
“But Alpha we haven't had any altercation with Silas and his pack in months, I don't see why we are still maintaining such high defenses at the borders,” Caleb spoke with confusion in his voice and I swear to the goddess I would have palmed my forehead if my fist weren't clenched in anger.
Caleb has been my gamma for as long as I have been the Alpha of this pack. He has soon great skills in battle and has done relatively well when it comes to handling military affairs but sometimes I can't help but feel that in spite of the redeeming qualities he possesses, he can be a f*****g i***t.
Because how the hell does one think a preposterous thought?
A frustrated sigh left my lips and I unclenched one of my hands and pinched the bridge of my nose as I struggled to find the simplest, polite words to explain myself.
“Caleb.”
“Yes, Alpha?”
“If you want to catch an enemy without putting up much of a fight, what would you do?”
“That's easy. I'll catch them unaware.”
“Good. Now don't you think that Silas’ reluctance to strike could just be a ploy to catch us at our most vulnerable moment?”
He opened his mouth for a second then shut his lips as realization flashed through his eyes and just when I thought he was about to say something reasonable, he just repeated the same action again.
“Now that actually makes sense,” he spoke with a sheepish look on his face and I palmed my forehead once more.
Fucking i***t!
I was just about to reprimand him with the chain of harsh words hanging on my tongue when the sound of footsteps reached my eardrums and the scent of strawberries and vinegar floated into my nostrils and a wave of frustration washed over me. But it wasn't because of Caleb, instead it was because of a certain mentor who was meant to help me.
Instead of helping, she occupied my mind with various heinous thoughts and kept trying unethical techniques on me. And let's not forget her rotting vocabulary and crude mouth. After that stunt she pulled last time, I swear, I could almost feel her hot tender lips on my n*****s. I'm not sure if that was a jest or her trying to help. What I do know is that it kept messing with my head.
I mean, who does that?
It was so outrageous for a lady to come on top of a man. More or less play with their body like that. How vulgar could she be.
Somehow, thoughts of her infiltrated my mind again. I could smell her coming from a mile, literally. Knowing that she was getting closer shifted my attention from whatever Caleb was saying.
“Are you listening?” He asked but I just nodded. I didn't hear anything he said and I wasn't ready to admit that I got distracted by that vulgar healer of mine.
Just then a question plagued my mind. Did I enjoy her touch? Immediately, I shook my head. There was no way I would enjoy the touch of an unchaste lady. I said to myself in my mind, forgetting that all Caleb was seeing was me shaking my head in disagreement to whatever idea he had.
“Yes, Alpha. I will not do that. It's definitely a bad idea.” He immediately said out of fear. I didn't even know what idea it was.
“Explain it to me again.” I said.
“The pups in our pack need a better nanny care system, especially for mothers that work.” He said.
“We already had a nanny care system. It's functioning at the moment. Very creative.” I said sarcastically. I almost facepalmed myself at that spot.
The system we built for mother allow their children to be cared for free while they work somewhere close. Working somewhere close was the condition.
“Yeah.” He didn't get the hint. “It’s very creative. We can train those children as well so that they can better fighters than the last set. Time are hard, every child needs to have a fighting skill.” He suggested.
“So, you are saying I can't protect my people.” I commented, looking at him calmly, enough to scare him. “You think this pack is protected and it's not safe enough, that I don't keep it safe.”
“No, alpha. I'm just saying it would be to our advantage if an average werewolf knew how to defend themselves.” He explained but I didn't want to listen to reason. Not when the scent of my healer had filled my senses. She wasn't even in the same room with me but it was that bad.
“That won't be necessary. I swore to keep this pack a safe place, a safe place to raise a family not an civilian-army. If any of the pups choose to be a warrior, we will train he or she.” I explained so he'd understand why his idea didn't make sense.
There was peace in my pack anyway and I intended on keeping it that way. Besides, if I bought into that idea, it would cause panic and protest. I doubt a lot of parents want their little pups learning to fight at such a young age.
“How do you come up with crazy ideas like this?” I needed to know.
“Well…”
And just then she burst through the door like she hadn't just stormed into the office of the Alpha of the pack when he's in the middle of an important meeting. The second she entered, she didn't greet me or acknowledge me. She turned to look at Caleb with doey eyes.
And to think Caleb fell for it. He looked at her, with a goofy smile.
“Hey,” she threw her flimsy greeting into the air, not giving the slightest f**k about me. She didn't look my way. For a moment, I believed she was still angry at the way I shunned her. What happened next had me feeling like an outcast in my office.
