~SLOAN'S POV~
A whistle.
I turned to see a cute redhead Trager was probably talking to before I walked in. He made an exaggerated show of checking me out. “Hello to you, Moi Cherie?” I had to admit. That was adorable of him.
“Like what you see?” I giggled the second I said that. The thing is, Caleb looked way younger than any guy I had seen in the vallum. I was sure that I was at least two years older than him.
With a contagious, playful, boyish smile on his face, he said. “I love it, mon amor.” He stood up from his seat and took my hand in his. “You have blessed my day with your beauty.” With that sweet mouth of his, I knew he was the pack's most famous playboy, Caleb. He happened to be our Gamma.
“Caleb. That's enough. You can seduce the first lady you see out there.” Trager's voice boomed in the room. He seemed irritated.
“Does that mean I'm dismissed?” Caleb asked with hopeful eyes. How did he not know he was dismissed?
“Obviously.” Trager voiced out the response in my mind. Caleb was already out the door before Trager finished speaking.
“That was fast.” I chuckled as I shut the door.
“What do you want?” Trager asked like I was an errand child he didn't want to see around. His face was stoic as always. I wondered if he would lose a hundred grand if he smiled for once. With his hooded eyes staring at me, I felt like I was judged all over again. I was too mad by the way he had hit me the other night to think too much about his judgy look.
“If you keep that attitude up, I'm going to think you're gay,” I said teasingly as I took a seat across the desk. A vein popped on the side of his head. It was so visible I could trace the line to his hairline. Being able to get this kind of reaction from him was so funny.
“What did you say?” He said through gritted teeth. I swear his forehead almost burst and it took everything in me not to laugh.
“Calm down, big boy or you might have a ruptured vessel in your brain.” I giggled. “Relax.”
“Is that the new rumor going around about me?” He asked.
“Not that I know of but since I came here, I have only ever seen you with guys, no lady...not even the maids.” Ahhh...the maids. Their uniforms were too revealing. Yet, I had never seen Trager look their way.
“That doesn't mean anything.” He said.
“That right there says a lot.” I pointed out. “The maids in the vallum are way too sexy for you to not notice. Plus whenever a hottie like me disrupts your meeting a guy, you flare up. I don't blame anyone that thinks you're gay.”
“You really think I'm attracted to guys?” To my surprise, he didn't throw me out the window.
A frown settled between his eyebrows. “I'm not gay. I'm sure of it.”
“How did you check?” I was curious. Then, he threw me a look of disgust. “Alright. Nevermind. Have you ever had a crush on a girl?”
He looked at me like I was stupid. “I brought you here to help me fall for the mediocre nature of the women around me, not to question my sexuality.”
“Mediocre?” I looked at him questioningly. It was this side of him that pissed me off everytime. He thought so highly of himself. It was annoying. “No wonder you're single,” I mumbled under my breath but I was sure he heard me.
“Is this what you came here to do? Insult me?” He asked.
“No, I came here to understand what you think about when you meet a girl you like.” I retorted.
“There's nothing to tell. The only woman I've ever liked rejected me. I'm sure you know that.” He countered.
“Yes, I know. Hell, the entire pack knows that. What I don't know is how you felt when you were always around her.” I said calmly, disregarding the tone of his voice.
“I felt immense adoration for her like any man would his beloved.” He said with so much seriousness.
“And?” I asked.
“And what?” He looked clueless.
“Is that all you felt? Come on, wasn't she beautiful? Were you not aroused by her body?” I asked bluntly.
“By the goddess—” He held his head with one of his large hands. “Your mouth is so loose. Would it hurt to put a filter and speak like a lady?”
“You mean talk like I'm speaking to a four-year-old?” I retorted. “You felt aroused, didn't you?” I asked.
“Yes.” He sighed. “I was but she didn't believe me.” He said reluctantly.
“Because your p***s wasn't erect.”
“By the goddess!” He shook his head in disbelief. “You say those words so bluntly.”
“Yeah. That's my superpower.” Though I looked witty on the outside, I knew how hard it was for me to be as carefree and blunt as I was. I grew up in a household where saying the word “boy” was a taboo.
Anytime I was found next to one, I was disciplined by my nanny. My mother passed away after giving birth to me and my father was too busy with his career to notice how the nanny he hired maltreated me. My nanny retired when I turned seventeen, and it took me a while to figure out that almost all the household rules my nanny had set for me were bullshit. I hated her and I hated my father more. His career was everything to him and I was nothing. That was a fact he made very clear to me. I made it a point to rebel in every way.
Somehow, I could understand why Trager had intimacy issues. I knew I had them too but in a different way. I had to admit that uncomfortable truth.
