MATTERS OF THE HEART

Meet Benny, a 13 years old Ghanaian girl. Benny was dark, beautiful and was having an androgynous features which made her showed much interest in masculine clothes. Her father, Mr. Asante was a well known successful lawyer. At age three, Benny's mother passed away in a car accident. Mr. Asante being a single dad, he tried to be the best dad his daughter could dream of. He pampered his daughter to the fullest by buying her enough masculine clothes and anything her daughter wish to have. At age seven, Benny showed much interest in football during school which made her father sent her to a football academy. Her football skills was unique which made her a star player. She was loved and well known every where she goes. Aside football, Benny showed much interest in girls than in boys. At age seventeen, her father noticed his daughter was in to girls so he called her to his room one night. Is an abomination to be a lesbian in a Ghanaian society and also it's against the rules of this country. This is what I can tell you as a father and as a lawyer Benny. Mr. Asante said to his daughter. This is who I am father, I like girls not boys. I've tried to be a perfect daughter but this is who I am. Benny said to her father. Mr. Asante smiled and said I support and respect your decisions. I really care about you besides your wish is my command. Benny smiled to her father and thanked him for accepting her decision. Benny had no close friends so she spent her leisure time at the football pitch or a coffee shop. One morning, Benny went to her usual coffee shop and came across a girl of which she fell inlove with at the first sight. Benny went straight to the girl and befriended her. Selina who was a gold digger happily welcomed Benny when she realised Benny was rich. A month later, Benny being blinded by love proposed her love to Selina. They started dating. Everything was going on well. Five years later, Selina introduced a guy to Benny as her brother. Frank known as Selina's brother was welcomed to stay a Benny's house. Benny was always busy with sporting activities. She hardly come home. She spent most of her time playing football and sometimes go and visit her father. One afternoon, Benny left home to visit her father but on her way, she remembered she left the gift she bought for her father at home. She went back to her house. When she reached her house, Benny was shocked by what she found on her couch. She by pass the clothes scattered on her couch and went straight to her bedroom. she pushed open the bedroom door and her world crumbled. Selina, her girlfriend of five years was being hold tightly in another Man's arm. She was shocked by the image she saw. Benny's eyes blurred. She couldn't process her Betrayal. She screamed and left in tears. Selina, filled with fear and panic wrapped her self up with a bedspread running after Benny but couldn't reach her. Benny went to her father drowned in tears. Mr. Asante tried to console his daughter but to no avail. Benny's love life was shuttered. Six months later, Benny recovered from her broken heart but turn to a Flirtatious Lesbian. she spent most of her time with girls at a club. Her father advised her but to no avail. Benny thought spending time with multiple girls will make her happy. Benny was judged by her society for her immoral behaviour. Others called her immature and others also blamed her father. A year later, Benny was signed by a school to coach grade 1 students. She came there everyday after she was done with her football training. One Friday morning, one of the children Emma, suffered from muscle pull. He was rushed to the school nurse office. Thirty minutes later, the pain went down. Madam Joan, Emma's class teacher came to visit him. Hi champ, how are you feeling now? madam Joan said. Benny raised up her head to look at the teacher. She was struck by the teacher's radiant smile.All of a sudden Benny's heart started swelling. she stared at her until she was out of her sight. who was that? Bennie asked. My class teacher, Madam Joan. Benny smiled. She went with Emma to escort him to his classroom. Benny took the chance to walk over to madam Joan's desk. Benny felt a sense of comfort around madam. Hi I'm Benny, can we be friends. Madam Joan raised up her head and smiled. I'm Joan. Nice meeting you. Wait! are you not a footballer? she asked. Benny smiled and nodded. They started being Friends. A week later Benny felt that Joan's presence has calmed the storms in her mind. she spent her time with her. she stopped going to nightclubs.She told her father about Joan. He was happy his daughter has find love again but the moment he set eyes on Joan, he was afraid his daughter will be rejected again. Joan was a fair skinned person with a warm heart. Joan was a religious person, who was respected in her society. She stayed with her aunt since childhood. Three months later, Joan started realised she was in to Benny. She started distancing herself from Benny. Benny was really affected by Joan's attitude. She went to her class many times but Joan was not willing to talk to her. Benny was confused and didn't know what to do. One morning, Joan sent her a message not to contact her again. This drive Benny insane. She tracked Joan's location and find out she was at a nearby bookshop. Benny picked her bag and went out of her house. She reached the bookshop in no time. Benny entered the bookshop. She scanned the aisles. Her eyes searching for Joan's familiar figure. Benny spotted her sitting in a corner. She rushed to her. Joan looked up sensing her presence but ignored her. Benny knelt Infront of Joan pleading to give her thirty minutes of her time. Joan agreed. They went to a cool quiet place to have a talk. Why are you doing this? Benny Asked. I don't want to be with you anymore. You have a bad reputation and I don't want such friend. Joan said. Benny looked at Joan's eyes and smiled. She replied Joan with a kiss. Joan kissed her back. They kissed until Joan pushed Benny away and left. Benny was confused but didn't run after her. she went back home. When Joan reached home, she felt a rush of emotions, a mix of excitement, happiness and contentment. She couldn't hide her smile. She received a message from Benny."can we meet tonight" . Joan smiled and accepted her request. Benny arranged a dinner at her house. They both met and have dinner together. I really love you and would appreciate it if you could give me a chance to prove my love to you. Benny said. Joan smiled and nodded. Am I accepted? Benny asked. Yes you are but you have to promise me of one thing. Joan said. Am at all ears. said Benny. You know our relationship is inappropriate so we'll have to keep it a secret. Benny didn't liked the idea but she accepted it. Their love journey brought a change to both Joan and Benny's life. Benny's father called Joan to his house. Are you ready to stand and fight for my daughter? Mr. Asante asked? Joan gave no reply. She was betrayed in a love she built for five years. I don't want that to happen again. I love her but it is, say no more. Mr. Asante said and left.
