Chapter5: The God of Hell

The name Kristen Wallace sounded familiar. I was scratching my head to jog through my mind when suddenly I remembered I read about her in one of the magazines I saw in Amelia’s house. She is quite an astounding personality from the way she is featured on a continuous basis in renowned magazines. But, I cannot believe she can be linked to the disaster I faced. I tried to recall the article I read about her. I remembered it stated she was born and brought up in a moderate setting, however with the mediocre talent she achieved what others could only dream about. How was this possible? There was only one single explanation: human beings are known in heaven to trade off their souls to the devil for easy success, and she is one of them. I had a hunch that she is the one who can help me reveal the identity of the monster who killed my parents. I knew she could be found in Worth Corporation but booking an appointment in one of the biggest companies is almost impossible. To get an appointment, I knew I had to go back to Amelia and ask for her and Kevin’s help for Kevin already worked in a multinational and I was hoping he must have contacts with the elite. ~~~~~~~--------~~~~ The next morning, I was back in Norcia. After opening the door of my apartment, I went to my room to wear some clean clothes, when someone suddenly touched my shoulder. With closed eyes, I screamed at the top of my voice and next, I heard the scream of the other person. We were both screaming and when I opened my eyes, I saw Amelia. I blinked my eyes several times, “What are you doing here?” I breathed out, slightly annoyed. She made an angry face and started “Where the hell have you been? Do you realize how worried I was when I did not find you the next morning?” “I thought something happened to you.” She exhaled and again started “I wanted to thank you for everything and tell you about Kevin but when I could not find you, I got so worked up that I called Gavin” “Gavin, my cousin,” I asked skeptically. She nodded and replied “He is at my place waiting for you to show up” I frowned and after a while I lied “Well! There was something that came up and I had to go without informing you.” I paused and again started speaking emotionally “You seemed very happy that day and I did not intend to ruin that happiness.” Hearing my words she gave me that puppy look that can melt anyone’s heart. I shook my head and hugged her tight. She is incorrigible and the sweetest. I told her “let me freshen up then I will join you at your house” and she left. I showered, wore my red flared pants and white lacy Cami, and accessorized with a layered necklace. After checking my look in the mirror, I started for Amelia's house. Many questions were forming in my mind about Gavin, his association with God, whether he is an angel or human, his powers, etcetera…. etcetera…. I reluctantly knocked on the door, after reaching the house. On the second knock, someone opened the door and I experienced a euphoric feeling. Instantly my lips curved up as if I found a long lost family member. When I saw him, I right away knew he was Gavin. He looked around 30, with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes that shone with mischief; he was unusually good looking. He could kill a thousand girls with his chin dimple. I was still gawking when he snapped his fingers in front of my face to bring me back into the real world. I grunted in response and forwarded my hand to shake his hand “Hey, I am Samara” “I am sorry…I was staring because you… felt like a ….family member” I stuttered. “Hello Samara, I am Gavin.” He chuckled and directed me to come inside. When I entered I saw Amelia setting the mid-century wooden dining table for breakfast. She has pleasantly changed after meeting Kevin. “Samara, you came early. I made your favorite food.” She said while putting the dishes on the table Her revelation brought a smile on my face “Thanks, sweetheart. You are always superb.” She motioned for us to take our seats on the dining table and went to the kitchen to grab some more food items. While waiting for her, I did not look towards Gavin. I was flustered and embarrassed because he saw me gawking and I did not want to give him a wrong indication. The wait was truly killing me. Instead of starting a conversation and clearing the doubts with Gavin, I choose to sit idle and ignore him. This inability to clear the haze blinding my mind made me chew my lip hard. I was still lost making my lip bleed when all of a sudden I heard him clear his throat. I raised my eyes and saw him staring. He was checking something on my face. His gaze made me fidgety. I immediately stopped the lip chewing and started touching my face for something abnormal. Seeing my action, he calmly said in his husky tone, “You have your mother’s eyes.” His words surprised me. After a pause, I replied, “I did not know you knew my parents.” He stayed numb for a while but his face showed a million emotions. I could not comprehend his state of mind but he was in a dilemma as if deciding whether to disclose his secret or not. Then he started, “I was very close to your parents. I attended their wedding when I was young. They were the happiest couple I knew and I was certain they were hale and hearty till the date I learned they passed away.” He continued hesitantly “I know the blame is placed on you Samara but your eyes say otherwise” I was in utter shock after hearing his words. He knew almost everything but still, he helped me. Why? Without controlling my curiosity, I exhaled out the next words “How do you know all this? And why did you help me?” “It’s a long story,” He said with a sigh. I was not willing to let go “I have all the time in the world” I answered forcefully. He looked me in the eyes as if searching for something, “You are not ready yet Samara. You will know the truth when the time is right” I was about to say something when he raised his hand and said “No more discussion, please. I won’t be able to tell.” I lowered my head in defeat. I was expecting to get some answers from Gavin but he shut me out. I was disappointed. The next moment Amelia came with the dishes and we ate our breakfast in silence. It was unusual for Amelia to be calm and peaceful but she stayed quiet as if she knew something was bothering me. After finishing breakfast, I helped her clear the table and clean the dishes. I thanked her for a wonderful time and was about to take a leave when Gavin called me into the garden. I furrowed my brows and went out. I saw him talking on the phone, so I waited for the conversation to finish. After he hung up, he came near me and said, “You want to get an appointment with Kristen” I was utterly shocked, so I simply nodded. He stated with a thinking pout “Kevin is already working there, so I will arrange the appointment easily, but meeting Kristen is your problem” I was relieved. I just wanted to get inside the building of Worth Corporation, the rest I can fix on my own. After knowing I am getting closer to fulfilling my destiny, I passed him a smile and he smiled back. “I will send you the appointment details on your phone. So stay ready” he said before leaving. ~~~~~~~~~~----~~~~~~ In a dark room, a shadow could be seen smoking a cigar. The atmosphere was tense inside the smoke-filled room with dim light and outside the rain pouring heavily was making it even more miserable. The focus of the man seated on a huge wooden chair was on the curtains moving due to air coming inside the window. It seemed he was in deep thoughts. Then, a man dressed in a black overcoat came inside after knocking on the door. He could not see the face of the man on the seat, as it was dark inside, so he asked for permission to speak, “Sir”. The man inside the room raised his eyes towards the ceiling and grumbled, “Speak”. Before the servant could say anything, he gulped and licked his lips. He hesitantly spoke “My Lord, the lady has arrived on Earth. She is looking for Kristen Wallace.” Before he would say the next sentence, he wanted to gauge the reaction of his master. So, he raised his eyes, but the figure remained still. He gulped again and stuttered “She is trying to get an appointment…. to meet Kristen…. What do you want us to do, Sir?” The man on the chair, born to be a king, laughed haughtily after hearing his servant’s words. With a sneer he started, “You seem perturbed by this little creature”. “Do you think she can beat me just because it’s prophesied?” The man roared just as the thunder outside got even louder. The weather seemed to change as per his mood. The servant started shaking for he had never seen his master so angry. The servant could not dare to offend his master, so he remained mum. The next moment the silence broke with the sound of breaking the glass window. The man threw a vase with such power that it broke the window and fell around a mile away from the house. He was Gabriel and he vowed that day, “I am God of Hell and I will make her life a living hell.” “I will not let her fulfill her destiny. She will beg me to show mercy but will get nothing” “She will get a version of Gabriel that everyone dreads. She will get a monster that will ruin her completely.”
