Chapter4: Finding Mathilde

1511 Words
I was just about to enter my building when I had a hunch that something or someone was following me, though when I turned there was no one. I shook my head on my stupidity, but unexpectedly the ground rumbled and I could see the building walls shaking. Something was definitely wrong. When I turned towards the garden, I could see smoke coming out of the earth and then there stood two large hounds with red eyes staring at me from behind the bushes. It was truly frightening. I could not move my legs, as they had started shaking seeing those monstrous eyes. But, I had to gather my courage and the only course of action I could think of was to run as fast as I could. I don’t know for how long I kept on running but when I stopped I was in the middle of the woods. I did not realize but after checking my watch I learned I had been running continuously for 17 hours, it was completely exhausting. I looked if I was able to escape from their sharp eyes. When I did not see any movement I released a sigh of relief. I was completely devastated, first the tragedy on my planet, then coming to Earth and now being followed by the monsters. This was beyond my imagination. This particular act cleared my doubt that something evil was behind all the conspiracy. But, why was I the target? I still needed the answers. But, first I needed a safe place to rest. While searching, I was able to locate a small cave. It looked scary but I continued. After walking a few steps, I realized something was moving inside, it terrified me. I was already being followed by giant monsters; I did not want to encounter another. Fortunately, I had carried my backpack while running towards the woods, so I hurriedly tried to find a small torch from my bag. Throughout the process, I kept my eyes glued towards the cave. I had to stay vigilant. Luckily, I found the torch and flashed the light on the area where I saw the movement. There was a cute black cat hiding behind a big rock. When it saw me, it purred loudly. I exhaled a sigh of relief and went ahead to carry it in my arms. She had her tail next to her body, which meant she was feeling frightened. I read about cats in God’s Library and learned about their behavior and how to control them. So, to soothe its senses, I tilted my head slightly and said lightly “Hey little one, what are you doing in the middle of the forest?” It kept on looking at me with its cute kitten eyes. When I picked it, it kept on examining me. I had doubts that maybe it will scratch me but it started licking my whole face. I started laughing for it felt ticklish. I stretched my arms to stop it but it continued to lick me. So, in between the wet licking, I saw its eyes were innocent with a tinge of excitement as if trying to say something. I held it in my arms for a while. After 10 minutes passed, I gave it some human food and water to drink. I was feeling hungry too, so I had a snack bar and started looking for a place to crash. Inside the cave, it was very dark, so I stuck my torch in the c***k of the rock. It illuminated the whole cave. Then, I found a small rock, placed my head on it, and tried to relax for a few hours. I signaled the cat, which was staring at me with its flashy yellow eyes, to come and lie down next to me. I woke up at around 7 and the sun was shining brightly outside. I was hoping that whatever or whoever was following me must have retreated. I cautiously went outside but could not locate the cute little kitty. I wanted to call out for the cat but remembered I was hiding. I decided to wait for it to return. After some time the cat came running to me and I excitedly lifted it. To get out of the forest, I started in the north-east direction. We had been walking for about a couple of hours but could not find a way out. “We are lost” I grumbled. But, my cat was in the mood to quit, so it jumped off my lap and started moving in front of me. I smiled at this cute little courageous creature and started following it. The trees were thick, so it was difficult to see ahead. After an hour, the trail became slightly visible, which only meant a road was nearby. I was excited to be out of this place. But, soon I saw the same two large bodies that were following me earlier, but they were already dead. I bit my lip hard for I could not believe they died on their own. I was still lost in my thoughts when my cat purred and dragged me back to reality. I breathed out “They were following me and now they are dead.” “It can’t be a coincidence. I guess my coming to earth has awakened the monsters from hell and my scent is being followed by them.” “But, how did they die?” “Is God helping me or some guardian angel has followed me down to rescue me from this hellish place?” I had so many questions in my mind that it was going haywire. I looked at my cat for a while. Its cute little eyes gave me the courage and I said with determination “I am going to fulfill my destiny. I will reveal the traitors and get my respect back” and moved forward. After a few hours of saunter, I reached a town named Bandamone. It was a quiet town with very few people. I don’t like the crowd, so I guess it was the perfect haven for me at present. I asked a passerby to tell me the location of a motel that was nearby. I had no car, so needed someplace that was easy to travel to. I reached the place; it had a creepy name “Ghost Lodge”. After entering the place, I got goosebumps but I needed someplace to rest and eat and most importantly plan for the upcoming events. On entering, I read a poster that stated: “No Pets Allowed” near the reception area. So, I hid my sweet cat inside my bag and hoped it would not make any sound. The receptionist too gave me an eerie feeling, so I quickly snatched the keys from her and went to my room and locked it. It was a normal room with all the basic amenities I needed for the day. The room looked freshly cleaned with net white shade curtains, a simple rug under a round glass table, and a matching white recliner. It looked decent and to my liking. I quickly removed my cute kitten from the bag and placed it on the rug. It was looking at me as if it was hungry. I gave it some bread with little milk, as I learned from the book I read earlier that cats can have these food items. After feeding it, I decided to give it a nice name. I was thinking when a name suddenly appeared in my mind. I named it Mathilde which means strength for battle. To stay with me, it definitely needs all the strength and power. I lovingly called it Mathilde. I guess it loved it and jumped towards me. I told him my name “Samara” or that it can call me Sammy, which obviously it cannot. So on a laughing note, we cuddled and lay in the bed together. When I woke up, the time was already 6 in the evening. I hastily jumped as I had not decided to waste 3 hours simply on sleep; I had to make a plan to reorganize my life. There are entities behind my existence who want something from me which I cannot really comprehend. It had been 2 consecutive days since I am running. I am not even certain whether it’s for my life or my identity. I suppose the second option is correct for I am a fallen angel who has access to the secrets of heaven which I cannot reveal to anyone. This burden is taking a toll on me and I cannot even take my life for it is forbidden among the angels. After thirty minutes of pampering myself in the shower, I was completely relaxed. I made a list of people I had to come in contact with from the diary in my backpack. I somehow knew these names would aid me in unmasking the hidden agenda that I had unwillingly become part of. The first name that appeared in the diary was Kristen Wallace, the head of Worth Corporation.
