Chapter 8: Mine to Torture, Mine to Kill

1611 Words
The red room of the palace was filled with popular monsters from hell. The big crystal chandelier in the middle was the only light in the room, which was giving a ghostly aura to the whole setting. After Gabriel summoned the masters of hell for an inquiry, some beasts were sweating profusely. They had seen his anger and they did not want to be on the wrong side of the God of Hell. He had not yet arrived in the room, but the distinct noises of gossip, worry, and surprise could be heard in the room’s every corner. They wanted to know the reason that bothered their master to the extent that he sent for them immediately. Suddenly, the room fell silent. A shadow with a robust figure and gait of the king arrived with his most loyal servant and friend Luther. He stopped at the head of the stairs and looked at everyone haughtily. All the monsters loved him; they bent their knees to honor his presence. Then, the supreme power in Hell raised his head high and spoke in his majestic voice, “Who dared to disobey my orders?” No monster had the audacity to even look at Gabriel’s eyes. They knew his anger could burn and dissolve them with a blink. So, they kept their eyes lowered. When he did not receive the desired outcome, he could not contain his anger. His growl could be heard in the three realms- heaven, earth, and hell. The walls and floor of the red palace shook with the force. His face had turned red with the most gruesome eyes. The monsters trembled with fear. They could not defy him. He was their master. Then, a huge giant with horns and slimy black skin hesitantly came forward and spoke slowly, “Sir, your opponent Pirithous has arrived in the underworld. He wishes to overthrow the Majesty and rule. In fact, he is getting help from Sire’s enemies in hell.” Gabriel raised the corners of his mouth and spoke in a low voice deliberately, “Where is he now?” “Sir, he is hiding” the monster spoke carefully. After hearing his words, Gabriel clenched his fingers into a tight ball. He had a crazy expression. The monster shivered but still added, “Sire, some heavenly identity is aiding him in fulfilling his desire and helping him to hide. Apart from this, the heavenly identity has given him some sort of power that allows the hellish creatures to travel to earth and back to hell” Gabriel remained in deep thought for a while and then firmly added while looking at the monsters, “An angel fell from heaven. I know most of you know about it.” After a thinking pause he again continued, “Even though I had advised every hellish creature not to follow her, some tried to chase and harm her. Her name is Samara Agnes. If I see anyone near that girl or hurt her, that person or thing will become my enemy.” “No one is allowed to see or touch her. She is mine to torture, mine to kill. She is sent on Earth for me and I’ll deal with her. Understood?” he roared. All the monsters clapped after hearing his words. They loved the words torture and kill. Then, Gabriel vanished with Luther by his side in the midst of the clapping sound. ~~~~-----~~~~~ Samara was still lost in the thoughts of that handsome devil when she saw someone following her in the glass window of the car. She swore loudly and looked back, but nothing was there. Her heart had started hammering in her chest. She had an awful feeling that something horrible was about to happen, when all of a sudden, the earth started shaking. It felt as if God or his children got angry with someone. This kind of turmoil was often experienced by her when some heavenly power lost his or her temper. Samara wore a shocked expression and raised her head to see the sky. When she looked up, she saw the clouds make a face that resembled the devil whom she met recently. Samara was in a dilemma to understand whether it was her intuition or figment of her mind when all of a sudden rain started pouring heavily. She thought she must be crazy to see his face everywhere and then she smiled beautifully. She strode quickly to a nearby vacant place, where many people had gathered to avoid any kind of mishap. Out of caution, she called Gavin and explained her doubts. Gavin listened to her carefully and whispered something that could only be heard by Samara. Samara quickly moved from there but, throughout the journey, she made sure people were around her. Finally, she reached her apartment building. Instead of going to her room, she straight went to the back garden in the building, when she heard a horrible sound. When she turned, she saw two grotesque creatures with scary claws lurking in the dark. They were about to attack when Gavin unexpectedly appeared from her backside. She excitingly exhaled out loud, “You are here.” He smiled at her and next she saw him fighting the monsters. He had a sharp heavenly weapon that would ignite whenever he stroked the monsters. His moves were agile and graceful and within seconds, the monsters were torn into pieces. They lied lifeless on the grass. She could not imagine Gavin had such supreme powers that he could kill monsters so easily. She felt extremely happy and embraced him warmly and said, “Thanks for coming here and saving me Gavin.” He held her hand and spoke anxiously, “You need a safe place, Samara.” She could understand his worry but still nonchalantly replied, “This is safe, and Amelia is always around to help me.” She continued, “Do not vex over such menial issues and if there is any problem, you are just a call away.” He looked worried but thought he had no right to force her to live elsewhere. With that thought, he was about to leave when Samara held his hand and asked, “Would you like a cup of coffee?” Gavin turned towards her and after a pause nodded lightly. Samara was feeling awful for making him feel worried. She did not want to include him in her problems, but the circumstances did not permit her to choose a different path. She had to willingly or unwillingly ask for his help. On the way back to the apartment, they did not utter a word. Maybe both were still figuring out how to start the conversation. When Gavin hesitantly said, “Can I have the keys?” She handed the keys to Gavin and stared at his back. He was the first to enter the apartment which was completely dark, as the lights were off. When he tried to switch on the lights, suddenly something pierced his left shoulder. He did not flinch and still switched on the lights. But, his eyes almost came out of his sockets because a gigantic two-faced monster with green scaly skin was looking straight at him. He was about to strike again when Gavin gathered the momentum and lifted his hands. Then suddenly a bright light came out of Gavin’s hands and the monster got pushed towards the wall. The force of the light was so strong that the monster burst into million flames in seconds. It seemed Gavin had the power to kill the demons easily, but when Samara saw him, he was completely exhausted and fell on the floor. Either the power he exuded or the injury he endured caused tiredness, but Samara had to act hastily to avoid any type of mishap. However, the encounter of Gavin with the monster had already shocked Samara but after seeing his condition, she got scared. Her eyes got wet and her throat started to feel itchy. She did not want anybody to get hurt, but somehow fate was playing a dirty game. First, she lost her parents and now Gavin was wounded severely. She started crying frantically, but Gavin consoled her, “I am fine Samara. Do not worry.” His words brought a wet smile on her face and she held his hand, “You are just like my family Gavin. I do not want to lose you.” She gathered her energy and without wasting any time, tried to lift him from the floor. With both her hands, she clasped his right hand and helped him up. While trying to lift him, she felt strange energy, just like electricity, running inside her body. She completely engrossed herself in the act and saw Gavin on his feet in a couple of minutes. She asked him to sit on a chair and went to the kitchen to prepare the coffee. When Samara returned with coffee mugs and first aid kit, Gavin was staring out of the window. This infuriated Samara, “Gavin, have you lost your mind? You are looking at the view when you have suffered a severe injury.” “Please come, let me fix it, and then we will visit a clinic,” Samara concluded. Gavin looked towards her strangely. Samara could not comprehend his reaction, so she lowered her eyes. He understood her complicated thoughts, so he asked hesitantly, “Do you know the extent of your powers?” When his words registered in her mind, Samara raised her eyes and after a while started laughing hysterically, “What powers? I am just an ordinary angel.” Gavin was furious with himself because he felt he scared Samara. After waiting for a while he ordered, “Pack your bags, Samara. You will not stay here.” And with these words, he exited the apartment.
