Chapter 9: She is Powerful

1431 Words
Luther helped Gabriel light his cigar. Gabriel had not said much since he arrived from his castle in hell. Exhaling puff of smoke from his mouth, Gabriel looked very serious. Luther knew he had the habit of smoking only when he is extremely sad or worried. But, it was difficult for him to figure out whether he was sad or tensed and what was the reason behind his worry. Luther kept quiet; he was eagerly waiting for his friend to give him a hint about what he was thinking. Apart from this, he needed answers on how to pursue the matters especially the ones related to the new angel and Pirithous. Luther was chewing his thick lip when Gabriel suddenly breathed out, “I never imagined I would fight my people over a girl who means nothing to me.” His rueful smile while speaking the words was making him look even fiercer. “But, the most critical question is who is after her? And why that person or people wish her harm?” He looked towards a confused Luther and after thinking for a while spoke, “Look into the matter of Pirithous. He is dangerous and unpredictable. Find out who is helping him.” Luther scrunched his brows together and nodded. Then, he was about to speak something, when Gabriel started with a pout, “Leave Samara to me, you cannot do much in her matter. She is more powerful than I anticipated.” Gabriel exhaled a heavy sigh, “I tried to hypnotize her. But, somehow, she managed to break the trance.” “Her willpower is strong, but to know the extent of her power and neutralize her I need some time.” Luther replied with force, “Sire, do you want me to keep an eye on her?” Gabriel shook his head. “I have more wonderful plans for her.” He said with an evil smile. ~~~~~~~~----------~~~~~~~~~~ While packing her things, Samara remembers about Mathilde. She had completely forgotten about him. So, she goes to Gavin who was standing in the corridor and says politely, “I will be at Amelia’s Gavin. You can find me there.” She did not realize he was on the phone when she said those words. He looks towards her and gestures to wait. She hears a few words from his conversation, “Get it done as soon as possible and find out where Pirithous is hiding.” It seems he was tensed. So, Samara does not push and goes back to packing her things instead of going to see Mathilde. She thinks she can meet him after she is done with her packing. While she is still loading her stuff in her luggage bag, Gavin comes and clears his throat. Samara looks towards him hesitantly and says, “I am sorry. I heard your conversation.” He furrows his brows and lowers his eyes. After thinking for a while he coolly asks, “What exactly did you hear?” Samara moistens her lips, “Not much, but you were talking about somebody by the name Pirithous.” She shots him a quizzical look and asks, “Who is he?” Gavin turns his back towards Samara and strolls out to the sitting area. He could lie but he does not want to be misconstrued. He wants Samara to trust him. Samara thinks she offended Gavin, so she follows him out. But then Gavin speaks with his arms crossed, “You should stay away from Pirithous and his acts.” Samara does not know why Gavin was getting so worked up over a person. She had never heard of someone by that name and she never intends to meet him. But, Gavin’s conflicted look makes her stomach churn. She wants to console him; she wants to tell him that she will never see anyone who is called Pirithous. But, then Gavin says distractedly, “Forget Pirithous. You were saying something when I was on the call.” Samara closes her eyes and hits her head, “Oh! I completely forgot. I need to go to Amelia’s house. Will you care to accompany me so that I can say my goodbyes?” she requests Gavin. Gavin pouts, “Alright, I will meet you at Amelia’s residence.” and pulls one of the luggage bags into the elevator. Samara wastes no time and immediately goes to see Amelia. She knows that Mathilde doesn’t eat without seeing her face. Therefore, she rushes to her little pet to not make him wait for the night meal. When she reaches Amelia’s house, before even pressing the bell, she is welcomed by the cat’s trilling sound. Samara’s face instantly lits up seeing her favorite pet. She carries Mathilde in her arms and sighs, “Oh Darling, I missed you too.” Amelia shakes her head looking at them from the front door, “Come inside before you pour all your love for your sweet cat in front of my house.” She says teasingly. Samara hugs Amelia from the side and goes inside, “I hope Mathilde did not bother you too much?” “Don’t be a silly woman. Your cat is really cute. If it was not your pet, I would have definitely adopted him.” Amelia says with a side pout. Samara smiles at Amelia, “Thanks again, Amy. You never disappoint me.” Amelia was eating Samara’s brain out with her continuous blabber when the doorbell rings. Mathilde was at Samara’s feet, so Amelia goes to open the door. It was Gavin, “Is Samara inside?” he asks Amelia. Amelia rolled her eyes and says with a funny face, “Obviously, if she said she will be here. She will be here, right?” Gavin knows there is no point arguing with her, so he ignores her and goes inside. However, the creature he saw at Samara’s feet makes him flare his nostrils. The creases on his head get so deep that it seems he would kill the creature with his frown. Samara does not look towards Gavin, so she does not know about Gavin’s reaction towards her cat. Even the cat starts growling after seeing Gavin. Samara had never seen her cat getting angry at anyone. She was a little taken aback seeing the reaction coming from her cat, “Shhh…Mathilde, he is my friend.” Samara scolds amiably and looks towards Gavin. To her amazement, even Gavin has a fierce look on his face. Samara gets completely dumbfounded seeing them react this way. “Gavin, why are you looking at Mathilde like a ferocious animal?’ Samara’s question is answered with a knotted look by Gavin. And, next, he strolls outside the house. “Where are you going?” Samara questions while catching his pace. “We are getting late, so we should start immediately,” Gavin says annoyingly. His attitude was infuriating but still, Samara speaks politely, “Wait, I wanted to ask if I can take my pet Mathilde to your house?” Something in his look gives her the answer she hears next, “I am sorry Samara, but, your pet will have to stay here.” And he leaves after uttering those words. Samara has tears in her eyes. She cannot comprehend Gavin’s reaction. With a gloomy look, she sees Mathilde looking at her. He purrs slowly and Samara gradually sits on the ground and holds Mathilde in her lap. She hugs him tight and says emotionally, “I am sorry sweetheart, but you will have to stay here with Amelia for a few days.” He again purrs slowly, as if communicating with Samara. Samara smiles sadly, “I promise to come back and take you from here.” They sit in that position for almost 5 minutes. Amelia feels amazed that Samara had got so attached to the little black cat. So she speaks cautiously, “Samara, do not worry, I will look after Mathilde.” After hearing Amelia’s voice, Samara raises her head and sees Mathilde’s puppy eyes. With tears in her eyes, she speaks to Mathilde, “Be good to Amelia. And behave.” Mathilde gently nods as if he understood her words, to which Samara laughs. “My good pet.” With these words, she waves goodbye to Amelia and Mathilde and goes to Gavin’s car. She opens the car door and sits silently. Gavin looks towards her. He knows she cried for the cat but remains silent. After starting the engine, he takes off. The atmosphere inside the car was melancholic, so to break the silence Gavin states without resentment, “It is better if your cat stays with Amelia.” Samara blows out a breath and mutters, “Oh” She really cares for Mathilde. But, she does not want to worry Gavin. He was already doing a lot for her. She decides to take Mathilde from Amelia’s house when she gets her own place somewhere safe.
