I am the hidden heiress to a global shipping empire. The systems keeping Mafia Don Marcello in power were mine, too. For years, his name went on my work. I stayed home and played the devoted wife. Then he brought his fragile first love home and put my family's legacy on the desk for me to sign away. Marcello sees the same housewife who has always signed where he points. This time, I tear the contract in half.

Chapter 1 The Torn Contract
I woke with bullet wounds burning across my back. For one breath, I was back in the safe room. My husband turned the lock while gunfire tore through the compound. The pain cleared. Morning light lay across a mahogany desk. Marcello Genovese stood beside it, his signet ring catching the light. I had engineered his rise to Don. Now he was smiling down at a stack of papers. The hundred-billion-dollar contract would hand him my grandfather's shipping empire for free. "Sign it, Serena." He kept his eyes on the signature line. "Don't make this a scene." Camilla's laugh came through the open French doors. Marcello's fragile first love was on the lawn with my children, Enzo and Bianca. They ran into the study and went straight past me. "Mama, we're hungry!" Bianca wrinkled her nose at the allergy-safe cookies I had baked before dawn. Enzo shoved the plate away, scattering cookies over the rug. "Mama's food is boring! Camilla promised us donuts!" They raced back outside. Camilla waited with a ribboned pink box and bent to ruffle their hair. Enough. I walked to the desk. Marcello glanced up at last and tapped the signature line with one finger. I picked up the pen. He leaned back. Then I set the pen down, took the stack in both hands, and tore the contract through the middle. The tear sounded loud in the quiet study. Marcello stared at the pieces. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" I dropped the pieces on the floor, took a thinner document from my clutch, and slid it across the polished wood. It stopped against his fist. Divorce papers. "I'm giving you what you want. The house is yours. Camilla is yours." I looked toward the lawn. "The children are yours, too." I left him at the desk. "You won't last three days without me, Serena!" he shouted from the doorway. "You'll come crawling back!" I kept walking. Inside the armored car, I took out a clean, untraceable phone. It held one number. "Gabriel, it's time. Activate the Leviathan protocol." My laptop opened on the accounts, shell corporations, and encrypted algorithms beneath Marcello's empire. I had built the structure myself. A red icon waited at the center of the screen. DELETE.
