Unexpected Encounters - Origins
Nobody manages to notice where the first projectile comes from; the blood of their superiors quickly alerts the novice warriors, turning their first mission in a brutal m******e, in a totally unknown land for them, without reinforcements and no one to appeal for the confrontation. While the rain of death follows step by step the trail of their movements, Four and Seven break off from the rest of the team to divert the objectives of the enemy, giving more than just a distraction, a lethal counterattack.
The last scream of their partners encourage Eight and Nine to join their fallen brothers; without listening the remaining surviving members, the soldiers break the line and unchain a powerful combination of hits to tens of enemies that manage to get close to them. After a few minutes, the twins abdicate in action. However, their death makes it possible for the rest of the team to escape across the depths of the jungle.
-Zed! Mother fucker, where is Zed?-
-Dammit, shut your disgusting snout.- Orders Ten, strongly taking Two by his chest armor to make him quiet -You are gonna get us caught.-
-We cannot leave without...!-
A blow to his face ends with the insistence of Two about finding his partner.
-I don’t wanna listen to you again. Understood?-
Saying yes with his head, Two lowers his eyes and follows the steps of the rest of the warriors.
-Calm down, brother… we’ll be back for him.- Ends Five to console his comrade.
-Move.- Interrupts Ten -We can’t stay still… they are not that far.-
The night keeps falling and the way doesn’t seem to have an end. The communications don’t work, there is no chance to keep going and the meeting spot is behind, but going back to that path is not even an option. Luckily, the vegetation of the jungle appears to be a good camouflage, but wouldn’t be enough to evade a single explorer by night. They have to find a safe place.
Its maybe just hallucinations, he thinks, or maybe the communications have been interrupted… but, its impossible! Nothing is close enough to perform that psychotic duty. One, the youngest member of the team, begins to get instructions that apparently come from his ear transmitter. It’s a sinister voice, toneless… a voice that no man could trust in. But, his imagination or a ghost transmission, the novice starts following the directions told by those short and dark words… it’s maybe their last hope.
Many minutes go away until Three, positioned in line in front of One, realizes the disappearing of his brother. Desperate, the soldier silently alerts the rest of the team, concluding in a temporary separation to look out for their partner. The half of their contemporaries are dead, they can’t allow another single loss… much less if it’s about the youngest member!
Fear and despair invade the bodies of the young soldiers. The loneliness and darkness are not a good combination in the jungle with the death as resident… but there is no more option but look for the most vulnerable member. For everyone’s luck, an alarming voice interrupts the empty silence living among the trees:
-Brothers!- Screams loudly -Hey, you gotta see this!-
Without losing a second, Two, Three, Five and Ten move in direction of One’s screaming, moving fast to not delay longer.
The vision of the youngest is stuck in something on the horizon.
-Damn! I thought we also lost…- A monument in front of the eyes of Five takes his breath to continue…
-You are an i***t. They’re gonna kill us because of you.-
Touching Three’s shoulder, Ten interrupts his argument, pointing with a finger to the place that takes everyone else’s attention. No one has enough guts to keep asking, except by Two;
-Krein, how did you…? What did you do?- Asks his youngest brother, feeling a paralyzing cold…
-I don’t know, brothers… you won’t believe it.-
