Anna
It took about 30 minutes to find out which warehouse it was. They were in a cluster and they all looked the same. The only thing that stood out were the guards that were stationed at the entrance of one of the buildings towards the middle. That’s were William is, my heart sped up. Without thinking I started to walk out into the view of the guards. Abigail must have sense where my thoughts were because she flung me back, just before one of them looked in our direction. Abigail gave me a pointed look and when she knew I wouldn’t do something so stupid again she went be to direction her men. What was I thinking? Something inside of me had pushed me to move forward, to help William. They were hurting him, I could feel it. If something happens to him, I will never forgive myself.
From our hiding spots we could see the two Hunters guarding the front entrance, and from the surveillance from one of the werecats, they had determined that were two guards posted at every entrance. The handful that there were seen roaming the grounds were dealt with immediately. I didn’t want to see Abigail’s men, the werecat’s, kill these men but I imagined what they have been doing to William and no sympathy for them was left. They cut their throats, in one swift motion, only the sounds of them choking on their own blood was all that could be heard. There was some kind of satisfaction from hearing it, not that I would ever admit to anyone else. Abigail’s men dragged them behind some crates near the entrance.
There were ten werecats, including Abigail. She hadn’t wanted me to come in case I got hurt, but I shut down that thought immediately countering that William would want to see his mate. Abigail relented soon after. I had said I wasn’t weak and I will prove it.
Two of the werecats made their way into the warehouse, when the coast was clear they signaled for the rest of us to enter. Crates littered the inside of the warehouse. Looking around almost immediately I noticed a puddle of blood close to the doors. A chill ran down my spine. Whoever’s blood that was is probably dead, or will be soon, I thought. Even with eleven of us, the only one making any noise was me. The werecats were as silent as death. My clumsy steps sounded like slaps against the ground. We made our way towards the back of the building and came upon some steps. Just as we reached the bottom steps we were ambushed by Hunters. They had somehow snuck up behind us and more were preventing us from going further into the tunnel. The werecats sprang into action. Some stayed human, others turned. The transformation was almost instantaneous. The transformation looked almost like they were stretching, but on all fours. Fur sprouted all over their face, hands, and I’m sure everywhere else that their cloths were covering. They faces elongated and when they looked my way, they looked like monstrous sized cats. So, this is what it looks like? I can’t wait to see William shift.
Abigail has when one of the werecats that changed, she was a beautiful blond cat with stripes all over her body. Her tail was bunching up her dress, I’m guessing they don’t wear anything when they fight.
The hunters attacked first. They werecats countered every blow. And there I was stuck in the middle of this extraordinary fight and I couldn’t do anything.
While I was standing there like a weakling, something inside me told me to sidestep.
Now!
I slid to my left. Immediately a surprised Hunter goes flying past me, with a serrated knife. Somehow he had broken behind our defenses and was coming after me. As he righted himself and placed the knife into his right hand, he once again came after me. I knew the others would not be able to help me in time. I took a defensive stance just like my uncle Alister had taught me and waited patiently for him to reach me. A grin spilled across his face, he thought I was going to be an easy kill…Not today, I smirked. Just when the knife was about to pierce my abdomen, I sidestepped to his left. With his momentum, I grab his wrist with one hand and hit the inside of his elbow with my other hand, in order to be able to hurl the knife under his chin and into his brain. His eyes grow huge, almost like he couldn’t believe a girl of five feet could take down a grown man. From the angle of thrust blood flows down my arm into the sleeve of my dress. His body begins to topple down, with all my might I push him away from me.
I look around to see if anyone needed any help, but they were all occupied. I needed to find William. As everyone else is distracted I make a run to find him. Abigail had told me when she had located William she had dug in his mind and located the cell he was in. After a couple of minutes of running, I finally reach the door Abigail had said housed William. I could hear screaming from the other side of the door. No! With trembling hands, I pushed against the door.
A William drenched in blood, red drops falling from his fingertips, greeted her on the other side of the door. I could feel myself grow faint. I took a tentative step forward.
“William,” I ask? “Are yo- are you ok?” I knew it was a stupid question, but he was splattered with what looked like body parts and blood. So much blood. He raised his hand towards me, till it reached my cheek.
“Are you alright, my darling?” I look at him incredulously. Me, I’m not the one that has been tortured for the past couple of hours. But a sob escapes me as I collapse against him.
“I was so worried about you. I thought I was never going to see you again.” More tears spilled, as his arms encircled me. I felt safe, again. His body seemed to relax, as if holding me allowed him to have all this weight come off of him. He was worried for me, I realize.
“Even though I would like to hold you like this forever and never let you go, I need to help my brother.” He pulls away and walks back into the room. As he reaches up to untie his brothers arms I finally see what they have done to him. I scream wells up in the back of my throat. His insides were exposed. His heart was still beating. But how was that possible. When William finally untied his brother, he gently cradled him in his arms like a child. His head flopped against his shoulder and right away I could see the resembles. He looks like William. I look away. I couldn’t handle it.
“Anna, can you please hold the door open.” He understood I couldn’t do it so he let me do something else. Coward, I say. Pathetic. William walks with his unconscious brother out of the room. Before I close the door, I see the bodies. I had been so focused on William and his brother I hadn’t noticed the c*****e. So, this is why William was bathed in blood. I look at his brother, and then back at the lives William took. Good riddance and I closed the door.
I catch up to William and tiredly I say, “let’s go home.”
