Chapter 2

~Kareen~ After Alpha chose me, I immediately started work as his slave. Of course, I falsified my credentials, so he wouldn't know I was also highly educated. But I noticed that the Alpha could smell my bloodline; it was also evident from my eyes and skin that I came from a high-lineage clan of wolves. I don't care if he finds out I'm not an ordinary wolf. I don't think Alpha cares about that. The only thing that probably mattered to him was to have a slave who passed his standard. The fat woman, the palace's butler, took me to the room I could accommodate. My room was on the third floor, next to the spacious Alpha room. She said it would be better if I were close to Alpha, so serving him would be easy. I was amazed at the ambiance of my room; it was also spacious, and I could see the vast backyard garden filled with green plants and colorful flowers. I love the palace facility; quiet, tidy, and clean. It's nice to stay here; it feels like I'm in paradise. I felt grateful when I finally stepped into the beautiful palace of Lycan. I would be lucky if the Alpha and I got along, and he would officially be my husband. Yet, it's not about time to celebrate. I have to learn more facts about my mate to secure my future with him. I arranged the few things in the closet that were made of wood. Sabrina, the butler, has left me. And she said I should wait for the first command of the Alpha. I sat on the edge of the bed and fixed the tangled sheets. The silence was so deafening that I could hear soft footsteps coming toward my room. It's getting closer and closer. Later, there was a knock on the door. I don't know if Sabrina locked it before leaving. I stood up and went to the door. I opened it, and I gasped as Alpha Rage came upon me. He smiled widely, yet he stared at me, seeming to judge my body. I still need to change my clothes. "Hi!" he greeted. He focused his gaze on my face. I bit my bottom lip, showing the Alpha that I was modest and shy, which was the opposite of my true nature. "Do you have any orders, sir?" I asked him casually. His gaze dropped to my lips. "Uh, nothing. I'm going somewhere, and you can use this opportunity to familiarize yourself with the place," he said. He also looked back into my eyes. Why did he come to me if he didn't have any orders yet? I wonder about his behavior; he has something he desires for me. "Then what do you need from me? Do I have any questions to answer?" I asked. Rage grinned, shaking his head. His gaze moved up and down to my lips and eyes. "I'm just curious. I smelled that you were a special wolf, and I was sure you came from a higher lineage of wolves." He giggled. He crossed his arms on his chest. "What motivated you to apply as my servant?" he asked. I heaved a deep sigh and stared directly into Rage's eyes. "I need a job because I want to get out of poverty. I came from a higher-rank wolf family but was not lucky enough to live with them. I supported myself alone," I said, contrary to the truth. Rage just nodded but couldn't take his eyes off me. I feel like his gaze contains a fire that burns me, giving a warm sensation in my core. I can't deny that Rage's appearance is captivating. And I wouldn't wonder why many women hope to be noticed by him. "Your story was inspiring. But here in the palace, you have to get along and obey the law. Ask Sabrina what you should and shouldn't do. Good luck!" Rage said. He patted my right shoulder before leaving. I just followed my sight on him as he walked away. The following day, I was awakened by the loud sound of a drum. My jaw clenched in annoyance, and my ears tingled. I slept so well, but due to the disturbing noise, I got a headache. I'm still a little dizzy. When my headache disappeared, I went straight to the bathroom. I took a quick shower in case of Alpha suddenly summoning me. Sabrina gave me a black and white dress code, four sets. It's long pants, made of silky fabric, a blouse with a white collar, and a few buttons on the chest. Just as I was getting dressed, someone knocked on the door. I quickly went out. Sabrina is waiting outside, still wearing her poker face. "Bring Alpha breakfast to his room," Sabrina ordered me. "Yes, ma'am!" I followed Sabrina to the third-floor kitchen. Someone was cooking food, but Sabrina said I should study the foods that Alpha likes because I would be the one to cook his food next time. After I got the food tray, I headed to Alpha's room. I knocked before entering. It was open, so I went in but stopped in the middle of the expansive living room. I need to find out where Alpha's bedroom is. There are four rooms there. Sabrina said I should put the food in the dining room before notifying Alpha that he already had food. She also said I could only leave once the Alpha said so. My concern was I needed to find out where the dining is. I chose the mahogany door on the left, at the edge. I knocked first. Nothing opens it from the inside, but it's not locked. I put the food tray in my right hand and then turned the doorknob. When I opened the door, I immediately entered. I winced in surprise and lost my balance on the food tray. I dropped it on the floor, and it made a scandalous noise. I saw Rage kissing a naked woman sitting on the table! Rage is wearing short black pants and standing in front of the woman. "Oh, my gosh! Who is she?" the woman asked in surprise. She is beautiful and has a perfectly slim body. She has long, blonde, wavy hair. I bit my lower lip and felt my face heat up. "S-Sorry, I thought there was no one here," I said anxiously. I bent down to clean up the mess; there was a broken glass and a bowl. I tried to calm my nerves, yet, I was still shaking. It's odd because I rarely feel it, even during the most pressure moments. "Don't touch the broken pieces of glass, Kareen!" Rage stopped me. I stopped moving and stood straight, but I still couldn't look toward them. I hated my body's reaction, but I had to act innocent. "Use a broom and a mop," Rage said sternly. I could feel Rage's anger. Who wouldn't get angry in that scandalous scenario I had? I disturbed them and left a mess. But why should I feel disappointed with what I saw? I'm not committed yet, and not sure my marriage with Rage will push through, but it seems like he's betraying me. I just ignored what I felt. I left and got some cleaning stuff. When I returned, the woman had already dressed, sitting on the chair in front of the table. Rage wears his black shirt. I hear their conversation while I am cleaning the floor. "Why don't you want me to come here again, Rage? You used to invite me here daily," said the woman to Rage. Her voice had a hint of disappointment. "The king has forbidden me to bring a woman here," Rage said coldly. "Why? Has he already chosen a woman for you to marry?" "Yeah, but he hasn't mentioned when the official ceremony is." "Why can't you disobey the king? I know you are not happy with his decision, Rage. Why don't you follow your heart's desire instead?" The woman started to panic. Rage just grinned. "I want nothing more than to be king. And I'm not obliged to love a woman. I just needed her to give me the honor of being a king and having an heir," Rage said authoritatively. I was surprised by the woman's hand pounding on the table. I looked at them while I continued mopping the wet floor. The woman stood up and faced Rage angrily. "Am I not worth it to you either? I saved you from your sadness; I endured your pain because I love you! Is this what you intend to happen? Then, you're purely an evil, ruthless, Rage! " the woman shrieked at Rage. Rage didn't say anything, instead avoiding the hysterical woman. The woman chased after him and slapped him on the cheek. Yet Rage didn't care about the woman's compliment. "Leave if you don't have anything nice to say!" Rage gave a sharp glare at the woman. I saw the tears release from the woman's eyes, full of pain and grudge. She left without saying anything. I have cleaned the floor but have yet to leave. My mind was struck by the scene I witnessed. It happened quickly, but it gave me an idea of what kind of guy Rage is. But I don't want to judge him immediately without knowing his other side. I still have a lot to discover about him. "Get some food for me again, Kareen. Hurry up! I'm starving!" Rage hurriedly ordered me. "Yes, sir!" I ran out and returned to the kitchen.
