Elijah pushed Sophia's wheelchair out of the room and down the hallway. Behind them, Lily's screaming faded. Johnson's rage became distant noise. Sophia didn't look back. She didn't want to remember their faces anymore. In the elevator, Elijah stood beside her, one hand resting lightly on the handle of the chair. His presence was steady, calm, like he could hold the world still if he wanted. Sophia's voice came out small. “Thank you." Elijah looked down at her. “You don't have to thank me for stopping a crime." Sophia swallowed. “You didn't just stop it. You… you stood up for me."
