Five years ago, Ethan shattered Bella’s heart and disappeared without a trace. Now, he’s back with an impossible request—marry him, or his pack will fall to an ancient curse. But Bella isn’t the same woman he left behind. Hardened by heartbreak and determined to protect herself, she wants nothing to do with the man who betrayed her.

Yet, as strange dreams plague her nights and the shadows of the past creep closer, Bella realizes she’s more connected to Ethan’s world than she ever imagined. Forced into a dangerous alliance, she must decide if she’s willing to risk her heart—and her life—to break the curse that binds them both.

Chapter 1: The Shock of Fate
The room was dimly lit, the air heavy with the scent of burning sage and ancient wood. Ethan Blackwood stood in the center of the chamber, his golden eyes fixed on the elderly seer before him. Her frail hands hovered over a crystal orb that pulsed with an eerie, otherworldly glow. “The curse is real,” the seer rasped, her voice like the rustling of dry leaves. “It has already begun to take root in your pack. If you do not act, Alpha, your people will perish.” Ethan’s jaw tightened, his broad shoulders stiffening under the weight of her words. “What must I do?” he asked, his voice steady despite the storm brewing inside him. The seer’s milky eyes locked onto his. “The curse can only be broken by a union—a bond forged in love and sacrifice. You must marry the one who holds the key.” Ethan frowned, his mind racing. “Who is it? Who holds the key?” The seer’s lips curled into a faint, cryptic smile. “You already know her, Alpha. She is the one you left behind. The one whose heart you shattered.” The words hit Ethan like a blow to the chest. He didn’t need to ask for a name. He knew exactly who the seer was referring to. Isabella Carter. “Bella…” he murmured, the name tasting bittersweet on his tongue. The seer nodded. “Find her. Convince her. Only then can the curse be undone.” Ethan’s heart sank. He hadn’t seen Bella in five years—not since the day he walked away from her without an explanation. The thought of facing her again, of asking her for something so monumental, filled him with dread. But he had no choice. The lives of his pack depended on it. --- Ethan stood by the massive glass window of his penthouse, staring out at the sprawling city below. The lights of the towering skyscrapers flickered like a sea of stars, but his mind was elsewhere. The weight of his responsibilities as Alpha pressed heavily on his shoulders tonight. It wasn’t just about leading his pack anymore. It was about survival. “Ethan,” Ellie’s calm voice broke his thoughts. She stood near the doorway, her expression unreadable as always, yet her eyes held something solemn. “We need to talk.” Ethan turned to face her, his jaw tightening. “If this is about the curse again, I already told you—” “This isn’t a discussion anymore.” Ellie’s voice, though soft, carried a sharp edge. “The curse is real, and we’re running out of time. If you don’t act soon, it won’t be just you who suffers. The entire pack will pay the price.” Ethan exhaled, running a hand through his dark hair. He didn’t need the reminder. Every time he closed his eyes, he could feel the weight of the curse creeping closer. But the “solution” Ellie kept presenting was one he wasn’t ready to face. “You’re asking me to marry someone for the sake of breaking a curse,” Ethan said, his voice low but firm. “That’s not exactly something I can rush into.” Ellie stepped closer, her piercing gaze unwavering. “It’s not just someone, Ethan. You know who it is.” Ethan’s chest tightened. Of course, he knew. He’d known the moment Ellie first mentioned it. The name had been like a dagger, piercing through layers of guilt and regret he’d buried for years. Isabella Carter. “Yes,” Ellie confirmed. “The woman you left behind five years ago. She’s the key to ending this.” Ethan’s jaw clenched at the sound of her name. Memories flooded his mind—her laughter, her stubbornness, the way she used to look at him like he was the only one that mattered. And then, the memory of the day he walked away, leaving her without an explanation. “Do you even know where she is now?” he asked, trying to mask the unease in his voice. Ellie’s lips curved into a small, knowing smile. “I do. She’s here. In the city.” Ethan froze. He hadn’t expected that. For some reason, he’d assumed she was far away, living a life untouched by his world. The thought of her being close, within reach, made his pulse quicken. “She won’t want to see me,” he said finally, his voice heavy with guilt. “Not after what I did.” Ellie shrugged lightly, as if his concern was trivial. “She doesn’t have to want to see you. She just has to hear you out. The rest is up to you.” Ethan stared at her, his mind racing. He wasn’t sure if he was ready to face Bella again, but deep down, he knew he didn’t have a choice. The lives of his pack depended on it. --- The bell above the door jingled as Ethan stepped into the small coffee shop. The warm aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, but it did little to calm his nerves. His sharp eyes scanned the room, and then he saw her. Bella Carter sat by the window, her dark hair framing her face as she stared out at the street. She looked different than he remembered—more guarded, more distant. But she was still Bella. The sight of her stirred something deep within him, something he thought he’d buried long ago. Ethan hesitated for a moment, his heart pounding in his chest. Then, summoning every ounce of courage he had, he approached her table. “Bella.” Her name slipped from his lips like a whisper, but it was enough to make her turn. Her eyes met his, and for a moment, the world seemed to stop. Then, recognition dawned in her gaze, followed by something colder. Anger. “Ethan,” she said, her voice devoid of warmth. “What are you doing here?” He swallowed hard, trying to ignore the sharp edge in her tone. “I… I needed to see you.” Bella leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms. “After five years? You just decided to show up out of nowhere?” Ethan winced at the bitterness in her voice. He couldn’t blame her. He deserved every ounce of anger she felt toward him. “I know I have no right to ask for your time,” he said, his voice low. “But this is important. Please, just hear me out.” Bella stared at him for a long moment, her expression unreadable. Then, without a word, she stood, grabbed her bag, and walked away. Ethan watched her go, his chest tightening with a mix of regret and determination. He had expected this reaction, but it didn’t make it any easier to bear. As Bella disappeared out the door, Ethan followed, his heart pounding. He couldn’t let her walk away—not this time. “Bella, wait!” he called, his voice echoing in the cool night air. She stopped in her tracks, turning to face him with a glare that could cut through steel. “What do you want, Ethan?” He hesitated, the words catching in his throat. Then, finally, he said, “I need your help.” Bella’s eyes narrowed. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” Before he could respond, she turned on her heel and stormed off, slamming the door of her apartment building behind her. Ethan stood there, staring at the closed door, his heart heavy with the weight of what lay ahead.
