Blurb

As a human, Viona should be invisible in Blackstone Pack. Cheap, forgettable, temporary.

But his son, the Lycan heir, won't stop crying for anyone, except me.

Alpha Ethan Blackstone is ruthless. A billionaire widower who hasn't touched anyone since his Luna died. He hates that his son sleeps on my chest. He hates that his house smells like me.

Until one night he scents me properly.

Vanilla and winter roses.

His dead wife's scent.

His mark — dead for a year — starts burning again. And his wolf makes a terrifying decision:

Mine.

He tells me it's just for the baby. That I will move into his bedroom, wear his dead Luna's clothes, and help him raise his heir.

He says he will never love a human.

But at 2 AM, when his son is between us, he looks at me like I'm already his.

Fired
“Get your hands off Liam! How dare you hold my son? You filthy, lowly human! You’re fired! Get out of here!” Ethan Blackstone looks at me like I'm dirt on his Italian rug. He is six-foot-four, in a black suit, still smelling like jet fuel and other pack's blood. His late Luna died a year ago, and everyone in this house knows not to mention her. His voice was deep and commanding, each word dripping with contempt. His jaw clenched as his Alpha aura erupted, forcing everyone in the room to bow their heads. And I was no exception. After all, I was nothing more than an ordinary human. My name was Viona. I was just an ordinary woman who had recently lost both my husband and my baby in a tragic accident while we were on our way to the hospital for a routine checkup. And now, I worked as a maid in this Blackstone mansion. “A-Alpha, please forgive me. I didn’t mean to overstep my boundaries. But…” “Silence!!!” Ethan’s roar thundered through the room. His Alpha aura intensified. The windows rattled violently as a powerful gust of wind swept through the mansion. Everyone gasped and bowed their heads even lower. Little Liam, the one-year-old baby who had been sleeping peacefully in my arms, suddenly burst into tears, startled by his father’s furious shout. Ethan strode toward me, his long legs carrying him forward with powerful, hurried steps. Without a second thought, he snatched the tiny baby from my arms. The force sent me stumbling sideways. My waist slammed against the edge of a table. Pain exploded through my side, so intense that I thought my bones might have cracked. I was certain a dark purple bruise would soon bloom across my skin, one that would take days to disappear. But Ethan didn’t spare me a single glance. His attention was entirely focused on Liam. He rubbed the baby’s back, attempting to soothe him. His movements were stiff and awkward, while his expression betrayed his growing panic. Yet Liam only cried harder. Harold, the butler, quickly stepped forward and ordered Lydia to calm the baby. “Excuse me, Alpha. Please allow me to help.” As the senior maid and Ethan’s former nanny, Lydia was more than qualified to handle the task. Without hesitation, Ethan handed Liam over to her. But the moment Liam was in Lydia’s arms, his cries grew even louder. The piercing wails filled the room until everyone instinctively covered their ears. I couldn't bear to hear another baby crying in such distress. Without thinking about the consequences, I rushed toward Lydia. “Ma’am, please. Let me hold him. I can calm him down. Please.” “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Ethan roared. Before I could react, his powerful hand clamped around my arm and violently flung me to the floor. My head struck the ground first. A searing pain shot through my skull, spreading throughout my body. For a moment, my vision blurred, and the entire room spun around me. “Guards! Get her out of here!” Two guards immediately stepped forward. I struggled to push myself up, but my arms were trembling too badly to support my weight. Something warm trickled down my forehead, slipping past my eyebrow and running along the side of my face. Blood. I stared at the red stain on my fingertips. Then one of the guards grabbed my arm and hauled me to my feet. “Come with us.” I lowered my head and allowed the guards to escort me out. Behind me, Liam's cries continued to fill the mansion. I clenched my teeth and forced myself to keep walking, even as pain throbbed through my head and waist. I couldn't help looking back once. Through the open doorway, I caught a glimpse of Ethan pacing impatiently while Lydia struggled to soothe his son. The usually composed Alpha looked increasingly agitated. “Liam, sweetheart, please stop crying,” Lydia pleaded, bouncing the baby gently in her arms. But Liam wouldn't stop. His tiny face was red, his cheeks soaked with tears. He stretched his little arms toward the door, crying so desperately that his entire body shook. Ethan’s face grew darker. “Why won't he stop crying?” “Perhaps he's hungry, Alpha?” Lydia suggested nervously. “Then feed him!” “I already tried. He refused the bottle.” “Then do something!” Ethan's voice thundered again. Lydia flinched. Harold stood nearby, his expression growing increasingly grave. He had served the family for decades and had witnessed countless tantrums, arguments, and displays of Alpha authority. But he had rarely seen his young master this helpless. Liam had been difficult ever since his mother's death. He rejected most people who tried to care for him, and his crying fits could last for hours. Yet something had been different today. The baby had been sleeping peacefully in Viona's arms. For the first time that afternoon, Liam had been quiet until Ethan took him away. Harold glanced toward the doorway through which the guards had escorted me. An idea suddenly occurred to him. “Alpha,” he said cautiously. “What?” “Perhaps we should bring the human woman back.” Ethan's head snapped toward him. “Absolutely not.” “But, Alpha—” “I said no!” Ethan's eyes flashed dangerously. Harold lowered his head respectfully, but he didn't retreat. “Forgive me for speaking out of turn, Alpha. However, Young Master Liam seemed comfortable in her arms. He was sleeping when you found them.” Ethan's expression darkened. “Are you suggesting I let a lowly human handle my heir?” “No, Alpha. I would never dare.” Harold paused before continuing carefully. “I am merely suggesting that we consider Young Master Liam's needs. He has been crying for quite some time, and neither Lydia nor anyone else has been able to calm him.” As if to emphasize Harold's words, Liam let out another heartbreaking wail. Ethan's hands curled into fists. He glared at him. Harold held his ground, despite the suffocating pressure of the Alpha's aura. “Please, Alpha. Just allow her to hold Young Master Liam until he calms down. If she fails, you can send her away permanently. But if she succeeds…” He deliberately left the sentence unfinished. Ethan looked at his son. Liam's cries had grown hoarse, and his tiny hands kept reaching toward the door. For several seconds, the room fell silent except for the baby's sobbing. Finally, Ethan exhaled sharply. “Fine.” Harold bowed his head. “But don't misunderstand me,” Ethan added coldly. “I'm only allowing her back because of Liam. The moment that woman crosses the line again, I'll throw her out myself.” “Of course, Alpha.” “Bring her back. Now.” I had barely made it down the grand staircase and crossed the mansion's front entrance when two guards caught up with me. “Miss Viona!” I stopped and looked at the two men warily. “What is it?” Neither guard answered immediately. One of them glanced at the blood running down my face, his expression shifting uneasily. “Alpha Ethan wants you to return.” I stared at him, convinced I had misheard. “What happened?” The two guards exchanged glances. Then the taller one spoke, his voice noticeably softer. “Miss Viona, the young master won't stop crying.” My heart clenched. I remembered Liam's tear-streaked face, his tiny hands reaching desperately toward me. My chest tightened. I looked back toward the mansion, its magnificent windows glowing beneath the afternoon sun. Somewhere inside, a little boy was still crying for comfort.
