Mila felt her heart start racing like crazy and she thought he could hear it. At first she thought she heard him wrong, but she knew she heard him right.
Her family was something she never talked about, especially not to some strangers, and this man in front of her was no exception to that. She swallowed her fear and tears that were threatening to escape from her eyes.
"I am sorry, but I refuse to talk about my family."
Before he managed to say anything, she stood up and turned around, heading to the door. Luca was so stunned by her reaction that he didn't manage to say anything before she left his room.
He stayed there in his room for the rest of the day thinking about the woman he called in his life.
Maria took a seat at the dining table and started with the dinner, asking herself why Mila hadn't showed up yet and if it was clever to send her to him. She was about to stand up and look for her when she walked into the kitchen looking upset.
She took a seat without a word and when she caught her gaze Mila smiled at the old woman, thanking god that she was not alone there with that man. She also noticed that Maria was looking at her and, even though she didn't feel like that, she smiled again at her and forced herself to eat.
The dinner went by in silence. When they were done, she forced Maria to go to sleep and she stayed to clean the kitchen. Night was silent and silence did her best right now. She needed it to clear her own thoughts and ideas about her future. Did she make a mistake by coming here? She sighed heavily and poured herself tea. She took the cup and went to the garden.
Moonlight's shadows were dancing on the water in the pool. Mila wrapped a small blanket she took from the house tightly around herself. Even though it was summer, nights were pretty cold and fresh. She kept looking at the water, drinking her tea, not thinking about anything special. She stayed there up to midnight and she felt much better when she walked into her room. Her bed called her and she hugged him with joy. Soon the darkness got her and the same nightmares started haunting her.
It was painful to wake up almost every single night in tears remembering how tragically her family left her.
She took a seat on the bed and pulled the blanket up to her chin, trying to normalize her breathing, and when she did she slowly got up from the bed and walked out of her room, heading to the kitchen. She needs a glass of milk to fall asleep easier.
Luca couldn't sleep until long in the night. Finally, he got up and went out onto the balcony of his room with a glass of whiskey resting in his hand. He stared outside thinking about swimming in the pool when something else caught his attention, that is someone caught his attention.
