Jayden Griffith only wants one thing: to have a girlfriend so he can avoid his parents' business partners' daughters. He wants to find a real woman he can truly be with, not someone who's just with him for his money. However, he crossed paths with one of his most annoying classmates from his high school days who often clashed with him. She is Carmella Sinclair, a scholar and a woman who owns a bakery shop. Will love resurface despite their teenage clash?

Prologue
What else will test you but love? Jayden Griffith was more interested in the expensive crystal glass in his hand. He kept glancing at his watch like he was running an errand. His outfit was impeccable and no one could deny he was a devastatingly handsome man. Hair swept up in a clean undercut, fresh-smelling, wearing an expensive suit he’d only use for one day. Perfect jawline, lips shaped like a cupid’s bow, and the only thing that set him apart was his cold, blue eyes. The sunset was beginning to peek through the glass wall of an expensive restaurant he’d chosen himself to dine with his parents. He wanted to look outside and watch the sun set, but that would be disrespectful to the parents sitting across from him. Elaine and Taurus Griffith were a couple who still looked so young you wouldn’t guess their age. Elaine Griffith’s sophisticated, gentle face was the opposite of her husband Taurus Griffith, whose bravado was as cold as ice but whose curiosity for his son was obvious. “Is there really no one among the women we’ve introduced you to that you like?” his father asked, puzzled. He sipped his drink and glanced at his wife, who’d been frowning since earlier. Elaine, Jayden’s mother, had already shown countless photos of beautiful women with high status who could support her son in the business world. But Jayden was like stone — he hadn’t even looked at the photos and already had reasons to reject everyone she showed. “I don’t like her, Mom.” Her son rolled his eyes at the first pictured she showed. “I don’t like someone too arrogant and full of herself.” There was a hint of disgust in her son's face after showing him the third photo of a woman he recognized. “She’s involved with different men every week, Mom.” Her son commented bluntly and glaring daggers at the seventh photo of a woman. "How about this Vivian Cho? She manages well and she’s kind. Her family manages a huge oil reservoir in Asia.” Elaine sweat dropped, hoping it could get under her son. Jayden looked at the photo of a beautiful Chinese woman. He couldn’t deny she was stunning, especially when she smiled. But he recognized her too. “Isn’t she the one in the news for throwing juice on her sister’s dress and not even apologizing?” Jayden asked with a frown. “What would I do with a woman with a bad attitude?” Taurus sighed, clearly stressed by his son. “Son, the Chos are strategic—” “I still don’t want to, Dad.” Elaine calmly drank her wine and forced herself to hide her irritation. She’d been wanting to ask her son something for a long time but was too embarrassed, afraid he wasn’t ready to answer. Until her husband beat her to it. “Are you gay, Jayden?” A deafening silence wrapped around them. Elaine smacked her husband’s arm for his lack of filter while Jayden’s mouth hung open. His mother looked at him apologetically and held his hand. “I’m sorry, son, we understand if you don’t want to say. But whatever your gender, we’ll accept—” “What are you even saying, Dad? Have you lost your mind?” Jayden frowned, eyebrows knitting together. “I’m not gay. I just… don’t like these women.” “But why? They’re all respectable—” “I want real love, not someone just arranged for me,” Jayden said bitterly. “How can I like a woman who knows my company card better than the things I want to do?” Both parents fell silent. They felt ashamed of themselves. They hadn’t expected their only son to still care about real love. Jayden sighed, anger and restraint showing on his face. “You know what happened to you, right, Mom? Your parents arranged your marriage. And until now, Grandpa still calls you a gold digger. And when you tell that story, it’s like you’re in a romance novel.” That was the same story Jayden’s parents had told him over and over when he was young, but as he got older, it started to feel wrong to him. His mother’s family had only forced her to marry his father because her family’s company was drowning in debt. Jayden didn’t want an arranged marriage. His parents only learned to love each other later, but Jayden wanted a love that was free, not forced. “Do you see the tabloids, son? ‘CEO Jayden Griffith, colder than cold.’ ‘CEO Griffith of X Corporation hates women!’ I’m going crazy thinking no woman will approach you if that’s all in the news.” Jayden admitted that ever since he took over his father’s company at twenty-six, he’d been avoiding getting involved with any woman. That was because he couldn’t stand their attitudes and how entitled they’d grown to be, which Jayden hated. “The real woman for me won’t believe rumors right away.” “We just want you to be happy, and to have a partner as soon as possible.” “But I’m happy waiting.” Jayden’s eyes softened when he saw his parents’ worried faces. “I want to wait for the right time for me. For now, I’ll try my best. If within one year no woman makes my heart beat, I’ll agree to marry whoever you arrange for me.” The couple looked at each other and smiled at him. “Deal, we have an agreement.” Elaine was happy with what she heard from her son while Taurus just nodded. After eating with his parents, he drove them to their huge mansion. Jayden didn’t go home with them because he still had something to do. Once Jayden got into his expensive, new-model Lombarghiney, one of the most expensive cars in the world — he started cursing. “What did I get myself into.” He sighed exasperatedly and ruffled his neat hair. He took a deep breath and groaned painfully. “I don’t even want a girlfriend yet.” He said irritably and angrily pulled out his Apple 41 pro max and searched on the search website, Goggle. “How to have an organic encounter.” But there was no information that could help him, so he just put his phone in his pocket and shook his head weakly. “I’m dead.”
