My arm was still stuck to the stupid dying bird.
The white Owl landed near the cliff and looked at me with those giant eyes.
It wasn’t hard to tell it was angry.
I panicked, and only a single idea came to my head.
It should work.
I grab the g*n and grimace at the idea.
I shoot my own arm off.
A single shot was enough, thanks to the very close distance of the muzzle actually touching my skin.
I had to tear the rest of it off.
The pain was still as insane as always. So painful, I was sweating like crazy, as my mind was clear of any thoughts. Blood started pouring like crazy from the wound. I should have been biting something other than my lip, but the damage was done.
I had just one more bullet left.
I pointed the g*n towards the giant white Owl.
It screeched at me with so much force, I was blown a couple of feet away from it.
I rolled with not a lot of elegance, and again tried to aim at the giant stupid bird.
The beast spread its wings, and little icicles came out, all of them flying towards me.
I guarded with the only arm I had, as icicles rained down on me.
One tore my biceps, another my leg. Luckily, my head and heart were fine.
But I wasn’t regenerating.
The wounds had closed themselves, but my powers weren’t working.
I hadn’t eaten in such a long time, and the other bird was barely alive.
This is payback, for not killing it huh?
My vision turns blurry and dark.
My mind goes blank.
I guess Ana was right, I was too different from everyone else.
Too normal.
“You killed me to survive, didn’t you?” asked a voice from nowhere.
I opened my eyes again.
I could have sworn my vision was going blurry.
But at that moment, I saw everything so perfectly, I thought I was in a dream.
Every person has a couple of moments in their life where everything seems to click.
Great athletes may have this moment every once in a while.
people about to die sometimes have these moments, when their will to survive is too great.
Time slows down.
You see extremely clearly.
No thoughts come to your mind, and your senses and focus are razor sharp.
For Hunters, this is even more true.
I could see the Birds wings, it was going to start its previous attacking cycle again.
I have hunted great beasts before.
I have strength.
I can win.
I shot the bullet towards the dying Black Owl instead of the white one.
It was a safer bet.
It died instantly, and I felt my strength flowing back into me.
My arm and leg started regenerating.
Snow had started coming down the moment it had attacked.
I turned my head a little and saw a snowflake perfectly.
The ice shards formed and started flying towards me. So slowly, I had more than enough time to pick up another icicle stick and defend myself.
I deflected the shards with ease.
Suddenly time moves forward.
I'm back at the present.
I get up and start running towards the Owl.
I remembered something my master said.
“Everything in this world can be twisted”
I throw my icicle and accelerate it as much as possible, but it still explodes with the first it comes into contact with.
Powdered snow covers our view. Another icicle still came towards me, but I managed to grab it in the middle of the air.
I throw it sideways, forcing it to curve.
More icicles came from the cloud that had blocked our view.
I quickly guard my face and heart.
…..
The cloud dissipates.
The bird laid there on the ground.
I had gotten its wing.
I smile.
The pain in my body was almost nonexistent.
I quickly threw another icicle.
I am not letting this stupid bird get away.
It covers itself with its other wing.
It cries in pain.
I try to take a step forward, and almost instantly fall over.
It had gotten my foot.
I take the icicle out of my foot, and it instantly regenerated.
I slowly closed the gap between the bird and me, with an icicle on my hand.
I smiled, delighted.
The bird looked at me with fear.
My smile wavered.
I was unsure.
I felt Ana’s hands over my own.
Her breath tingled my neck, as she got super close to my body.
She was urging me to finish it.
I raised the icicle.
I finished the job.
