FALSE ACCUSATIONS
“No!” A loud voice cried just before a long sword came in contact with her father's neck, who was pinned down to the ground; surrounded by injured and dead pack house members. The voice belonged to Carly, his daughter. Falling on her knees in tears, she beckoned for Hulbert's understanding. “Please, I beg you, spare my father's life. He is innocent.” Rubbing her sweaty palms together, she pleads further. “My father has never betrayed the alpha king. He served the kingdom with everything. Please, don’t take my only family away.” Grabbing at Hulbert's ankle, she cried out in frustration. “Please, just give my father a chance to...” “Hey!” A guard shouted at her, pushing her hands off the Hulbert's ankle. “How dare you touch the future Alpha's feet, you dirty thing?!” he cursed further but, that wasn’t her problem. Carly never for once saw her mother’s face since she died while giving birth to her. Her father refused to remarry so, he became her mother, father and relatives. He showered her with so much love and even though his job was too demanding, he still did the best he could to be present when she needed him. The moment her crush rejected her for being wolfless, she felt so miserable but, with her father’s help, she overcame it. and now, they want to take him away forever. Carly sobbed continuously as her gaze diverted to her father, Alpha Phil, whose eyes were filled with emotions; as if he wanted to shed a tear. He wasn’t scared of death but, was scared to leave her all alone in the world. The thought of her birthday and how he had promised to watch her transform into her wolf on her eighteenth birthday, broke his heart to pieces. Everything was already prepared for her ceremony but now, just days to that, his daughter was going to have to watch him die. “I’m ready to accept whatever since I have no say or can decline the king’s order. I have a request to make.” Alpha Phil finally spoke. “Ha-ha. A dying man’s request?” A guard teased and funny, Phil nodded. “I am innocent of the treason I’m being accused of. But since I have no proof to my innocence, I shall gladly accept the execution but please, don’t let my daughter watch. Take her away from here. Not a request from a dying man but, one who is a father.” “Isn’t it funny that you still give orders?...... Do you know the difference between a dying man and a traitor? Well, I will quote this as a response to what you just said… A dying man gets a request granted while a traitor, gets nothing but humiliation and the end of his lineage. You should count yourself lucky that the king asked that we spare your daughter.” Hulbert then turned to Carly who was still sobbing, “But then, how will he know if we killed her or not? After all, he doesn’t know what she looks like. Anyone can be your daughter.” Tears rolled down Phil’s eyes. He looked to the heavens. He had failed as an Alpha to protect his pack and as a father, to protect his beloved daughter. His enemies had won. He knew Hulbert has been trying to take his position but, not this soon. Carly on the other hand was willing to do anything to prevent her father from getting executed because she knew deep down within her heart that he was innocent of the allegations and if only Hulbert was willing to hear her father's side of the story, they would be able to get to the root of the problem. “Please spare his life. He is all I have. I swear there must be a misunderstanding. Can I have an audience with the King? If I beg him, I’m sure he will listen. I’m sure, he would remember how my father had sacrifice so much for everyone. The King will give a second chance. Please, I….” A cold laughter filled the air; it was long and unexpected with a mix of mockery. Pretending to wipe a tear off his cheeks, Hulbert furrowed his brows, showing no mercy in his eyes. “Of course, you would say that. I mean, what daughter wouldn't believe her father was falsely accused?” Grabbing Carly's cheeks, he snarled. “I don't tolerate betrayal or rebellion of any sort. It doesn't matter who it is, I believe there is no reasonable explanation for that… He planned to assassinate the king and there are proves to it. Maybe, you don’t know your father completely.” Pushing Carly's face aside, he surveyed round his surroundings, radiating the aura of an Alpha as the crowd of people who gathered around to watch, began to shiver in fear; lowering their heads to avoid his gaze. No one dared look him in the eyes. “Kneel before me as I will become the next Alpha after your death.” Hulbert ordered but Alpha Phil didn’t move. “Oh, I see. So, what about if your daughter’s life is on the stake here? You still won’t let down your pride and kneel?” And with that, Alpha Phil not only knelt down, but bowed his head too. “Please, spare my daughter.” Was all he could utter as he lowered his head. Hulbert stared at Carly once more expressionlessly, a mocking smile playing across his lips, before charging towards her father, Alpha Phil, cleanly snapping his neck from his body. Carly lets out a loud cry in agony as she watches her father crash to the ground; lifeless. “This is what happens to anyone who dares to overthrow our king’s rule!” Hulbert's voice thundered strongly with authority. “You will undoubtedly die just like Alpha Phil!” Carly screamed desperately, crawling over to her father's side, calling him over and over again in denial that her father was gone. “No, no. it can’t be. You really killed him…” She got up, picked up a knife and charged towards Hulbert with so much rage. “WHYYYYY? WHY DID YOU?” Not even near Hulbert when one of the guard, pushed her to the floor and took the sword from her. She looked at her father’s body, and then at the sword stained with his blood. “I will make sure you die by a sword too.” She swore and spit at him but, he laughed it off. A weak girl making threats. It was pathetic to him. A guard rushed over to the side to ask, “What should we do about the girl, Sire?” “Take the girl away and have her serve as one of the lowest ranking slaves” Hulbert ordered regarding Carly. “And Alpha Phil?” he got interrupted by a guard. Hulbert glared at the guard. “You ask as if you don't know what to do. Are you such a dummy? Dispose of him!” “No!” Carly screamed, scurrying over to her father's side. His body without a head was terrifying to see but before she could reach, the guards had taken hold of her. Carly tried to put up a tough fight, but it was all in vain as they'd carried her away like a light feather and helplessly let them drag her father away; unable to do anything in her power except cry. When they reached a certain building, they pushed her roughly into an opened passage that her knees were scratched. Taking peace in the silence, Carly silently sobbed herself to exhaustion and slept off, but the following morning, she was awakened by a sudden abrupt sharp pain. Flinging her eyes wide open, Carly saw a distorted figure standing in front of her. On taking a closer look, she came to realize that the figure was Zoya, the Hulbert’s youngest daughter, holding a whip. Carly glared at Zoya with anger, her eyes burning with flames of revenge as her mind ran through several thoughts on how the pack had come to have such cruel souls. Zoya stared right back with so much disgust as she noticed the hatred in her eyes. She felt insulted that Carly bore such a look against her, and swore that she ought to teach her a lesson. Tightening her hands around the whip in her grasp. “Won't you get up?!” She whippet Carly yet again. “You damn slave! Get up and work! Your colleagues have already been up before the sun set! It's a busy day for us all.” She yelled still whipping. Carly wondered what exactly made today so different from the others. Was it because today was her birthday? Even though it was, that thought didn't seem to excite her anymore as her father was long gone. Tired and hungry; as she hadn't eaten anything except from the bread she'd shared with her father the previous day. Carly decided not to put up a fight with Zoya. And except for that being the only reason, she didn't also want to be whipped again. Carly wondered if she could shift successfully now, as today was her 18th birthday and that would mean she would finally be able to have her wolf, but there didn't seem to be any sign of her wolf coming to meet her yet. Biting her lips in pain and trying as much as she could to suppress what she felt inside her, Carly struggled up to her feet. As Carly bypassed Zoya, the latter tripped her and a malicious laugh escaped her lips. “You are going to have to walk faster than that, don't you agree?” She whipped against the ground as Carly hastily scurried up to her feet, making her way to wherever other maids headed to. “I swear it, I will have my revenge,” Carly cursed softly under her breath. “For as long as I live, I will become the greatest nightmare for the whole royal family.”
