Adopted
Waking up at the crack of dawn was never a tall ask. The fresh air rushing through my hair helps me to feel invigorated as well as gives me the jump start I need for my day. Jumping out of bed, I change into my simple workout clothes, 3/4 length black leggings, a black crop top with a built-in sports bra, and a pair of runners that should probably be replaced. I make my way out of the pack house and start running the second my feet feel gravel. Running is my only true escape, the only time I can be myself and think clearly. My run takes me around the entire border of the pack, which might seem pretty far, but I do it easily nowadays, having done it so many times before. when I first started, I'd barely make a 1/4 of the way before needing to head back. the run is freeing and peaceful as the track I run is far enough in the border to not get in the way of patrols. I start at 5 am and arrive back at the pack house just before 7am. I'm getting a little quicker each week. Running back to my room, I shower and change in time to help serve breakfast along with the kitchen staff. Seems like a silly task for the daughter of the alpha. However, last year, on my 15th birthday, my life flipped, and I'm not in a good way. First, I got my wolf 3 years too early, which freaked pretty much the whole pack out. and second the una, the women I thought was my mother officially announced to the pack at my disaster of a party that I was adopted. The next day, I was moved to the staff quarters and put to work. Bye-bye, school, and bye-bye life. At least I still get to run and train in secret. Despite all this, my friends stayed true and trained me in secret every night after everyone's asleep. Having changed into a single white shirt and black shorts I make my way to the kitchen and begin collecting trays. Trays of bacon, eggs both fried and scrambled, toast, sausages, tomatoe, hash browns, and more a placed on tables set out like a buffet for pack members to come eat in the dining hall. Piles of cleaned plated stand at both ends alongside cutlery, napkins, and sauce options. Once all the trays are out, I start topping up juice decanters, milk, coffee pots, and water as members begin filing in for breakfast. I'm placing the last fresh coffee pot when I'm nudged from behind, almost making me fall. I turned to face the culprit to find the girl I once called sister, the real daughter to the alpha Mackenzie and her best friend, the betas daughter, Bridget snarling at the fact I didn't fall. "Wow your lucky I didn't fall, this fresh pot could have spilled everywhere, I'm sure the other members wouldn't be pleased" I try to hide the sarcasm but I don't think it worked. " What the... who said you could talk to me in such a way, you filthy gold digging child?" Mackenzie snaps back before storming off. There is no doubt to fib to her mother. Many have believed I forced the alpha family to adopt me. Apparently, the shear shock on my face when it was announced was not enough for people to realise I had no idea. I return to the kitchen so that I can make myself a plate from the limited amount of food provided to staff. It's fair to say staff don't eat that well.here. We are considered dirty and ungrateful for our below minimum wage. I eat quickly so I can make a start on dishes before having to clear away the dining hall and then clean it. Once the last few wolves leave the hall, I clear all dishes and trays to the kitchen before clearing tables. I'm halfway through cleaning the tables when a growl startles me, causing me to knock my bucket of water over on the floor. "Someone better get me something to eat, and it better be now." I turn and see my former brother and alpha heir Derek standing in the doorway looking furious. I correct the bucket and walk over to him respectfully as he has taken enjoyment in beating me since finding out the truth. "Sorry, alpha, I was unaware you hadn't eaten. There was barely anything left." His growl forces itself through me, making me shake. My once protective brother now menaces me every chance he gets. "I don't want to hear excuses get me something now," he commands before sitting at the closest table waiting for service. Truth be told, I know why he's late, I'm almost certain he was entertaining some greedy shewolf in his room last night, like most nights. As I walk back into the hall with a plate filled with food that was meant to be shared for the staff that hadn't eaten yet I suddenly find myself flying through the air landing on top of the plate smashing it right at Derek's feet. My body is ringing, my wolf is swearing in my head, and I can hear growling and laughter. I don't understand this light-headed feeling, but I'm rolled over to face a blurry face. "You clumsy b***h, serves you right," I hear through giggling somewhere beside me. I wince in pain as I try to move, I know I need to get Derek another plate. I hear him growl before I see stars and black out. I managed to catch fragments of words that sounded a lot like " just leave her" before a great nothing swallows me.
